THE BETFAIR TINGLE CREEK FESTIVAL FRIDAY 3 DECEMBER 2021
Official Racecard £3.00
THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU
A very warm welcome to Sandown Park today for the first day of our Betfair Tingle Creek Festival, one of the undoubted highlights of the Jumps season. We are very grateful to our headline sponsor Betfair and to our race sponsors Pinsent Masons, Ballymore and Pertemps for their generous support of this fantastic six race card. The first race is the Sargent Fifty Amateur Jockeys' Handicap Chase, which is kindly supported by the friends of Rodger Sargent. The feature race of the afternoon is the Ballymore Winter Novices' Hurdle, which is a Grade Two (one notch below the highest level) for talented horses with lots of potential. The race has an illustrious roll of honour, having been won in the past by subsequent Cheltenham Gold Cup winner See More Business, subsequent Grand National winner Neptune Collonges and Inglis Drever, a three-time winner of the Stayers' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. A run at Cheltenham may well be on the cards for the first six finishers of the concluding Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle, as this is a qualifier for the Pertemps Network Final at The Festival™. The sky is the limit for runners in our Pinsent Masons Introductory Juvenile Hurdle, which is for three year old horses, while even the most experienced punters will find picking the winner of the Betfair Daily Rewards Novices' Limited Handicap Chase a challenge, as this looks a wonderfully high-class and competitive renewal. We are continuing to recommend wearing face masks in crowded indoor spaces and checking in via the NHS COVID-19 app. QR codes remain located around the racecourse to enable you to check in should you wish to. I wish all the horses and their connections the best of luck today and hope that you all have a wonderful time with us here at Sandown Park. Sarah Drabwell General Manager of Sandown Park Racecourse

The Sargent Fifty Amateur Riders’ Handicap Chase The first race is sponsored in recognition of Rodger Sargent’s 50th Birthday today. Rodger loves Sandown Park, has been present at almost every Tingle Creek Festival for the last 25 years or so and has been trying to win the Imperial Cup here in March as an owner for most of that time. There have been some extremely close calls, but that remains an ambition as yet unrealised. He has, however, owned two Cheltenham Festival winners, Top Cees and Tikram. A quarter share of Top Cees was Rodger’s initial foray into racehorse ownership and amazingly ‘TC’ is still going strong aproaching his 31st birthday, lovingly cared for by Rodger’s parents and cousin in Lincolnshire. Tikram was bought out of Sir Henry Cecil’s yard as a three year old and ran 62 times in the Sargent colours, won nine of those races including here at Sandown in April 2005, and never fell in his entire career. Please join Rodger’s family and close friends here today in wishing him a happy 50th birthday (and an Imperial Cup winner!).

FOREVER BLESSED looked a useful prospect when going in at the first time of asking over hurdles at Ffos Las last month and Harry Fry’s son of Zoffany can make light of a 5lb penalty and go 2-2 here. Cases can be made for most here but preference is for CHAMPAGNE WELL, who was helped by coming from well off a true pace to score at Plumpton last month and, with his stable continuing to churn out winners, he can make his first handicap over the larger obstacles a winning one. Mahler’s Promise ran a fine race after 5 months off so he could provide the main threat, ahead of Zhiguli.
