Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATING The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

THE BRITISH EBF JOAN SNOW MEMORIAL CONDITIONS STAKES
Joan & Nelly For a long time, owning a racehorse had just been a dream for Joan, as she had been a racing enthusiast for many years. However, in 2008 on her Golden Wedding Anniversary, her husband Philip surprised her with a dark bay filly, in training with Richard Hannon Snr., which she then named Kurtanella after her grandchildren. Nelly, Kurtanella’s stable name, ran very well on her first 2 races out, her first race being here at Salisbury where she finished second, but Joan, along with her family and friends, celebrated this as though she had won! Nelly earned a run at Royal Ascot in June 2009. Her family all dressed up and went to the races for the day - Joan was in her element. Although not successful that day, it didn’t matter, she had had her own horse running at Royal Ascot and has had the good fortune to have had more homebred runners there since. When Nelly retired from racing, Joan started breeding her own foals from her. Nelly’s first foal was born at Highclere Stud and 5 more foals followed at various other Studs subsequently. Joan had much success as an owner breeder not only with Richard Hannon Snr, but also with Ralph Beckett as her trainer. She also bought more horses over the years, at one point owning a small string! Although she often travelled to many other racecourses to watch her horses run, Salisbury continued to be her favourite course. She enjoyed many lovely days out here, especially when her horse, Another Boy, won an apprentice race here - it was Ralph Beckett’s 1,000th UK winner. This was her local course, being a farmer’s wife from Andover, and this was often the place where she would meet up with many of her friends to enjoy a day’s racing, from the early days of her marriage right through to the past few years. Her passion for racing is something that she has passed down to her family, from taking her grandchildren when they were still in pushchairs, to her great-grandchildren more recently. Joan’s daughters are partners in her horses and will continue her racing legacy.
The family is very grateful to Ralph Beckett for very generously sponsoring this race.

………..with ‘Another Boy’ after his win in 2019
The Barbara Snow 60th Birthday Celebration Handicap Stakes What a fitting place to celebrate my 60th birthday! I have been coming to Salisbury Races since l was a child and have many fond memories of numerous days and evenings here with my parents, godparents, extended family and friends, and, in the last 20 years as an owner with my mum, who sadly passed away nearly three years ago. I love racing and horses, and the combination of the two, make racing a fabulous day out. In the last two years I have become an annual badge holder at Salisbury, and this has boosted my enjoyment of racing even more. I have met new people and meet up with them regularly on race days as I try to make every meeting over the season. So today, I have invited friends and family to join me to celebrate my 60th birthday and hope they all enjoy the day as much as I will. Thanks for coming everyone and I hope you back some winners! Barbara x
