RATING EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race

Good chance of being placed.

By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATING

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai, the UAE’s leading distributor of horse feeds and requisites, is proud to partner with Salisbury Racecourse in encouraging young talent and promoting quality racing through support for the five-race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series, two valuable 2-y-o contests and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai ‘City Bowl’ Day.

THE AL BASTI EQUIWORLD, DUBAI – RACING EXCELLENCE

APPRENTICE

SERIES AT SALISBURY

The five race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series at Salisbury is generously sponsored by Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai. It is specifically designed to assist the education and training of new and inexperienced jockeys

The first race in the Series this year took place on 14th May and was won by Jake Dickson on the Rod Millman trained Safari Dream at 3-1. The same horse won the equivalent race last year. The remaining three races in the Series take place on 11th July, 13th August and 3rd September

A points system operates throughout the Series and is allocated as follows:

1st – 5 points; 2nd – 3 points; 3rd – 2 points; 4th – 1 point Additional points are awarded by the jockeys’ coach for presentation, professionalism, course familiarisation walk and riding ability.

At the end of the Series the top three riders in the Series will receive prizes as follows, kindly provided by Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai.

1st - £1,500 2nd - £1,000 3rd - £500 The current scores are as follows:

Racing Excellence runs alongside the Jockey Coaching Programme (JCP) and is the industry accreditation for all apprentice and conditional races which run under hands and heels or training race conditions. Initially set up by The British Racing School as ‘Support for Young Jockeys’ in 2006, the BHA re-branded the scheme in 2010 as ‘Racing Excellence’

In February 2014 The British Racing School took over the management of Racing Excellence and The JCP The latter gives all Apprentices and Conditionals the opportunity to have a coach. All coaches who are all ex-Jockeys can be on hand to help with fitness, riding technique, nutrition and race reviews. A coach will attend every Racing Excellence race to conduct the pre-race course walk and then will also debrief afterwards.

“The R Hannon Racing Supports The Savitri Waney

Charity EBF Novice Stakes”

The Savitri Waney Charitable Trust

The trust was established by Arjun Waney to combat the multi-dimensional suffering and ill-health caused by rural poverty. Over its history, the foundation has deployed over £14 million in grants globally, operating heavily in rural India, as well as extending its reach to the UK, Nigeria, the US, and Canada.

The charity prioritises healthcare and community ecosystems through three key pillars:

• Curable Blindness: Funding major eye care initiatives, including cataract surgeries that allow marginalised individuals to return to work and education. The trust famously partnered with the Sankora Eye Foundation to inaugurate the Arjun Waney Eye Centre.

• Palliative Care: Training and supporting palliative care nurses to deliver holistic pain relief and emotional support to terminally ill patients living in remote, rural areas.

• Community Health & Environment: Managing maternal health, child malnutrition programs, and environmental and agricultural projects designed to help farmers improve crop yields so families have enough to eat.

Passing of former local trainer Peter Hayward

Peter Hayward died on Monday 8th June 2026 aged 94

Peter was a local racehorse trainer based in Haxton, Netheravon, just north of Amesbury.

He began his career with two years at David Elsworth’s, and led up two of David’s first winners - Raffia Set (his first ever winner, at Salisbury in April 1979) and Skyline Drive.

Peter’s 22-year training career ended in 2002. The winners he trained over the years included Canoness, Wiltshire Yeoman, Isca Maiden, Granby Bell, and Spring To Glory.

His son in law, Tim Hills said: “He will be very sadly missed, but his zest for life and racing, will live on through the multiple generations of his family”.

Salisbury was one of Peter’s favourite racecourses and members of his family are visiting the track today

Sponsor Tote Form 13-0200 C D

TIMEFORM Solid all-weather performer who shaped better than the beaten distance suggests over a longer trip here (1 3/4m) last time. Cheekpieces added for this drop in grade/trip, and with no guaranteed pace in the race, he could be interesting if allowed his head on return to the scene of his sole turf win. BHA 77

Sponsor Brendon Powerwashers Form 120-052 C

TIMEFORM Landed a double over 1 3/4m at this track last autumn and looked unlucky not to win in a lower-grade C&D handicap on his latest start.

Shaped as though a return to further was needed on that occasion, however, the return of cheekpieces should benefit. BHA 68

Race Summary: ARCTURUS FLAME looks the most solid option in a trappy handicap. Twilight Moon is respected in her bid to make it 2-2 over C&D, while class-dropper Tryfan looks interesting in first-time cheekpieces. FREE form for all British and Irish meetings is available
