A guide to the horse’s recent form
RATING EXPLAINED
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai, the UAE’s leading distributor of horse feeds and requisites, is proud to partner with Salisbury Racecourse in encouraging young talent and promoting quality racing through support for the five-race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series, two valuable 2-y-o contests and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai ‘City Bowl’ Day.
The five race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series at Salisbury is generously sponsored by Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai. It is specifically designed to assist the education and training of new and inexperienced jockeys
The first race in the Series this year took place on 14th May and was won by Jake Dickson on the Rod Millman trained Safari Dream at 3-1. The same horse won the equivalent race last year. The second race in the Series took place on 14th June and was won by Toby Moore on the Jack Channon trained Red Moon at 5-1. The remaining two races in the Series take place on 13th August and 3rd September
A points system operates throughout the Series and is allocated as follows: 1st – 5 points; 2nd – 3 points; 3rd – 2 points; 4th – 1 point
Additional points are awarded by the jockeys’ coach for presentation, professionalism, course familiarisation walk and riding ability.
At the end of the Series the top three riders in the Series will receive prizes as follows, kindly provided by Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai.
1st - £1,500 2nd - £1,000 3rd - £500
The current scores are as follows:
Racing Excellence runs alongside the Jockey Coaching Programme (JCP) and is the industry accreditation for all apprentice and conditional races which run under hands and heels or training race conditions. Initially set up by The British Racing School as ‘Support for Young Jockeys’ in 2006, the BHA re-branded the scheme in 2010 as ‘Racing Excellence’
In February 2014 The British Racing School took over the management of Racing Excellence and The JCP The latter gives all Apprentices and Conditionals the opportunity to have a coach. All coaches who are all ex-Jockeys can be on hand to help with fitness, riding technique, nutrition and race reviews. A coach will attend every Racing Excellence race to conduct the pre-race course walk and then will also debrief afterwards.

Racegoers are advised that bookmakers are not obliged to pay until the ‘Weighed in’ is announced, nor to remain on the course more than 10 minutes after that announcement
Odds Indicator Boards are now all marked Approximate Odds and all show the same approximate odds on offer at any given time before the start. It will be appreciated that these are intended as a guide and cannot necessarily reflect the resultant S.P. or the Tote Dividend of the winner

Nerys, who held atraining licence for just short of 30 years, had many successes at Salisbury from her base near Seaton in Devon. Herhusband, Simon, was also agreat supporter of the racecourse through his regular Axminster Carpets race sponsorships and by having an annual box for several years. They both sadly died within afew months of each other in 2016.
Simon and Nerys were regular visitors to the course, and during her peak period of training, seldom did arace meeting pass by without Nerys havinga runner. They were ahugely popularand generous couple, and are greatlymissed. The family now sponsora race at Salisburyintheir memory every year.It provides agreat opportunity for their children, (there are eight of them!) and grandchildren to get together
The Dutfield’s eldest son, Harry said: “They both loved Salisbury, asitwas alocal track, which always has agreat ambiance. One of Dad’s favourite moments was when his old stalwart, Royal Axminster, finally brokehis maiden at the grand age of 8, under the yard’s amateur Anna Wallace. Mum had great affection for the mercurial Aoninch, who raced at Salisbury fourteen times and finally scored in August2005, having been placed on her five previous visits to the track. They had many great days at Salisbury and it is afitting tribute to have arace named in their memory”.

Some of life’s most meaningful moments happen around the table.
It’s where we celebrate birthdays, welcome friends, share everyday meals and create traditions that are remembered long after the plates have been cleared away We believe the objects we choose to live with become part of those moments They are used, loved, passed around the table and, over time, become part of a family’s story.
Inspired by a childhood in India, Rosie Dalia is a homeware brand creating tableware, table linens and ceramics that celebrate original design, skilled making and the rituals of gathering friends and family.

Perched atop the cliffs on the North Devon coast, our iconic four star beachfront hotel with spa overlooks Saunton Sands beach; one of the best beaches in the UK We invite you to escape the everyday and take a seat by the sea in one of the most beautiful pockets in the country.

Richard Robathan – ‘Dickie Do Dah’ (1936-2022)
Placing bets from his hospital bed just before passing to softer ground, Dick was obsessed with horses.
He was as adventurous on the back of one, as he was at the races, and made many friends trackside and at the bookies.
Dick adored his fine maiden and four loving fillies, and never went furlong without jockeying around. He taught his children how to bet with a charmed turn of foot – and how to lose graciously. Life for Dickie Do Dah was about racing towards fun, which made him an odds-on favourite with everyone he met.
Much missed and forever loved, we’ll be raising a glass to this extraordinary gentleman we are lucky to have had as a husband, father and grandfather. What an absolute winner.

The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prize money for 2026.
