Tonight is the 21st Ladies’ Evening at Salisbury, and we are very pleased to welcome you for what should be an excellent evening.
We have six races for you to enjoy, followed by live music from “Aftersun – the ultimate party band”. They were due to perform last year, but the high winds meant that was not possible. We are therefore delighted to welcome them back this year, and we look forward to hearing them sing many popular hits from the decades. The music will end at 10.30pm at the latest.
All of us here at Salisbury tonight have the privilege to be able to enjoy ourselves at this special occasion, but we should spare some thoughts for those who are in pain and in mourning. After the heartbreaking events in Hertfordshire on Tuesday night, everyone at Salisbury Racecourse is thinking of BBC Racing commentator, John Hunt, and his daughter, who so tragically lost three members of their family.
Thank you for coming racing and we wish you a very pleasant evening.
Best wishes,
The Directors & Staff of Salisbury Racecourse

CD - The horse has won over both this course and distance BF - The horse was a beaten favourite on its last run
A guide to the horse’s recent form
RATING EXPLAINED
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed.
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
A winner over 5f off just 1lb lower here last year, ALPINE GIRL has shown more of her old sparkle of late and, having gained a first success over this trip at Lingfield a fortnight ago, the James Fanshawe-trained filly is an attractive proposition with her bid to follow up Runner-up on his last three starts, Media Guest also has a lot to offer based on his reliability and again rates a key player for a place. Symbol of Hope and Q Twenty Boy complete the shortlist.
WIN: ALPINE GIRL
DANGER: MEDIA GUEST
ORIGINAL OUTLAW showed improvement from her debut when she finished a close third over 6f at Kempton last month and, given the first two home in that race both hold Group 2 entries next month, the daughter of Wootton Bassett is readily nominated given the potential depth of the form. The rest with experience appear destined to do better in handicaps further down the line and with that in mind, well-bred newcomers Royal Playwright and Hawaii Five O might be the ones fighting it out for the minor honours here.
WIN: ORIGINAL OUTLAW
DANGER: ROYAL PLAYWRIGHT
Time may tell that NATIONAL INTEREST was second to a decent type on his seasonal debut at Musselburgh last month and this imposingly-framed son of Kingman can go one better here. Dropping in trip with first-time blinkers applied, the selection appears to have been given every assistance to break his maiden at the fourth time of asking. Queen Maker is the pick of the rest with experience, while Lzaz and Distinct Spirit are a couple of noteworthy debutants to consider
WIN: NATIONAL INTEREST
DANGER: QUEEN MAKER
ORCHARD KEEPER built on her efforts in novice/maiden company when scoring in style on her handicap bow at Newmarket last month and Roger Varian’s filly is fancied to back that performance up, despite a 4lb rise from the handicapper Warda Jamila didn’t seem to get home over 1m4f in the King George V at Royal Ascot and she remains with potential dropping back in trip Others to note are Roarin’ Success and Winterfair
WIN: ORCHARD KEEPER
DANGER: WARDA JAMILA
COMPTON BAY had been knocking on the door prior to his most recent display at Windsor when clearly not running up to form. The son of New Bay, who drops back in distance on this occasion, may take advantage of his assured stamina against rivals who have questions to answer in that regard. Sneaky Blinder ran with credit to finish third at Bath last time, while Eagle Landed is capable of a decent showing.
WIN: COMPTON BAY
DANGER: SNEAKY BLINDER
ENOCHDHU ran out a comfortable winner on his penultimate outing at Bath before finishing second at Goodwood when appearing to find 1m6f stretching his stamina limitations The four-year-old could have more to offer and gets the vote to earn a fifth career success Premiere Ligne (second) and Lexington Knight (third) were closely matched at Goodwood and the pair are likely to enter calculations once again, while Aikhal’s runner-up effort at Sandown last Friday puts him into the reckoning.
WIN: ENOCHDHU

Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai, the UAE’s leading distributor of horse feeds and requisites, is proud to partner with Salisbury Racecourse in encouraging young talent and promoting quality racing through support for the five-race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series and Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai ‘City Bowl’ Day.
The five race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series at Salisbury is generously sponsored by Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai. It is specifically designed to assist the education and training of new and inexperienced jockeys

The remaining races in the Series are on 14th August and 5th September
A points system operates throughout the Series and is allocated as follows:
1st – 5 points; 2nd – 3 points; 3rd – 2 points; 4th – 1 point

Racing Excellence runs alongside the Jockey Coaching Programme (JCP) and is the industry accreditation for all apprentice and conditional races which run under hands and heels or training race conditions. Initially set up by The British Racing School as ‘Support for Young Jockeys’ in 2006, the BHA re-branded the scheme in 2010 as ‘Racing Excellence’
In February 2014 The British Racing School took over the management of Racing Excellence and The JCP The latter gives all Apprentices and Conditionals the opportunity to have a coach. All coaches who are all ex-Jockeys can be on hand to help with fitness, riding technique, nutrition and race reviews A coach will attend every Racing Excellence race to conduct the pre-race course walk and then will also debrief afterwards.
