It is our great pleasure to welcome you to Salisbury for the third race meeting of the 2024 season.
Our thanks to betting shop operator William Hill for sponsoring five races today, and to Whitsbury Manor Stud, one of our most established and generous supporters. The feature race is the European Breeders’ Fund Cathedral Stakes which last year had a high class field of nine runners, most of which went on to run in big races at Royal Ascot. We hope that this year’s race will again be used as a stepping stone to the Royal meeting.
Dion, our local DJ for the music after racing, is raring to go and has always wanted to do an event here at the racecourse. We look forward to him playing some of the best hits from the decades when the music starts at around 9pm.
Thank you for coming to Salisbury races this evening. There is lots going on around the city this weekend, plus significant football matches, so we do appreciate your support. Details of all our race days are on the website – salisburyracecourse.co.uk
Best wishes,
The Directors & Staff of Salisbury Racecourse

16 Details of horse’s previous performances: Bold type indicates All-Weather Track form / denotes new season - denotes new year
C - The horse has won on this racecourse
D - The horse has won over this distance
CD - The horse has won over both this course and distance BF - The horse was a beaten favourite on its last run
A guide to the horse’s recent form
RATING EXPLAINED
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed.
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
Lovestruck Romeo did well to come home fourth after a slow start on his debut at Brighton and he can do better now if getting away on level terms The Harry Angel colt Mister Mcgregor is one to consider first time out for the Andrew Balding team, but MISS COLLADA is still preferred. A winner last time out on her third start, she brings ability and experience to the table and that could pay dividends
WIN: MISS COLLADA
DANGER:LOVESTRUCKROMEO
SUB THIRTEEN won by a nose over course and distance last time out, but he is progressive and may be the sensible choice as he looks for the hat-trick Horse Whisperer is a danger if she can slip the field dropping back in trip after her Kempton second, while maiden Boadicia is the unknown quantity as she makes her handicap debut off a workable mark
WIN: SUB THIRTEEN
DANGER: HORSE WHISPERER
MIDNIGHT’S DREAM pulled too hard on his return at Doncaster in April but his second to Night Raider last season suggests that the colt is much better than that, and he may be worth another chance. Noel Fox was sent off joint-favourite on his Newbury debut but was hampered at the start and is another who could go well, while newcomer Dancing Sapphire and Wolverhampton fourth Little Miss Magic are others to take seriously
WIN: MIDNIGHT’S DREAM
RACE FOUR
DANGER: NOEL FOX
Sakheer took the Mill Reef as a juvenile before finding Group 1 company too hot in his two starts last year, but the son of Zoffany has to be respected on this drop in grade. However, FUNNY STORY was only denied by a length when competing at this level at Newmarket earlier in the month. The daughter of Havana Grey rarely runs a bad race and she can make it two wins from of her last three starts Equilateral completes the shortlist.
WIN: FUNNY STORY
RACE
DANGER: SAKHEER
There were plenty of positives to take from HILLTOP’s handicap bow when reaching the frame over 6f at Wolverhampton last time and she could have plenty more to offer. The daughter of New Bay should have no issues with this step back up in trip and could improve for her first start on turf. Flavour Maker finished last on his handicap debut at Ascot earlier in the month, but he is worth another chance. Yellow Pages could also enter the reckoning.
WIN: HILLTOP DANGER: FLAVOUR MAKER
RACE SIX
Tayala has been in good form and occupied the runner-up berth over a mile at Kempton last time, but she needs to prove that she is as effective on turf. With that in mind, a chance can be taken on ENPASSANT, who took a fierce hold when fading into fourth at Brighton earlier in the month and he was dropped 1lb for that display. If he can settle better under Silvestre De Sousa, then he could be the one to beat Johnny Johnson can be in the mix for the minor honours.
WIN: ENPASSANT DANGER: TAYALA
RACE SEVEN
NOTHING TO FEAR didn’t do herself any favours when starting slowly at Kempton last month, but the way she finished that day was encouraging and stepping up in trip could be just the ticket for this daughter of Churchill as she looks to get off the mark Rosenzoo failed to fire on his return at Newmarket but he is best judged on his efforts last season, while Battle Of Omdurman is another to note making his handicap debut after a gelding operation.
WIN: NOTHING TO FEAR DANGER: ROSENZOO
RACE EIGHT
A taking winner over course and distance on heavy ground earlier in the month, WARRANTY is likely to encounter quicker conditions on this occasion, but a 5lb rise looks manageable and he remains the one to beat Clan Chieftain had wind surgery and a gelding operation before his last run and he can be given another chance. A promising second over shorter at Doncaster last time out, It’s All About You can also have a say in proceedings
WIN: WARRANTYR DANGER: CLAN CHIEFTAIN

Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn first time by No 5. Running for the first time since Gelding No 2. Stewards Note: MISTER SKETCH: Following its run on 18/5/2024 it was reported that the trainer could not explain the poor run. RAQIYA: Following its run on 23/9/2023 it was reported that the horse would prefer a faster surface
Betting Forecast: 9-4 Equilateral (GB), 11-4 Sakheer (IRE), 3-1 Funny Story (GB), 10-1 Harry Three (GB), 16-1 Raqiya (IRE), 20-1 Mister Sketch (GB)
Race Summary: EQUILATERAL failed to fire after his success in a big handicap at York last year but he had excuses on the first two occasions and is fancied to make a winning return from 4 months off if he can bounce back Sakheer is unexposed and, although he has a lengthy absence to overcome, he has a big chance if retaining all of his ability. Funny Story has something to find on form but is the solid alternative with a good recent showing under her belt.

Race Summary: HILLTOP shaped well over an inadequate 6f on her Wolverhampton handicap debut and can come good now stepping back up in distance. Race Summary: WARRANTY found plenty to capitalise on an easing mark on Flat debut for this yard and, in a thin race, he’s fancied to go in again for all that It’s All About You looks a serious opponent. Clan Chieftain is still unexposed and merits respect for all that he has an underwhelming reappearance to put behind him.
