DUBAI – RACING EXCELLENCE APPRENTICE SERIES AT SALISBURY
The five race Racing Excellence Apprentice Series at Salisbury is generously sponsored by Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai. It is specifically designed to assist the education and training of new and inexperienced jockeys
The first race in the Series on 18th May was won by Liam Wright on the Malcolm Saunders trained Redredrobin at 7-2. The second race in the Series on 18th June was won by Alex Jary on the Daniel & Claire Kubler trained Moondial at 7-2. The third race in the Series on 15th July was won by Shariq Mohd on the Rachel Cook & John Bridger trained Beau Jardine at 5-1.
After today’s race, the final race in the Series will be on 7th September A points system operates throughout the Series and is allocated as follows: 1st
5 points; 2nd – 3 points; 3rd – 2 points; 4th – 1 point
Additional points are awarded by the jockeys’ coach for presentation, professionalism, course familiarisation walk and riding ability.
At the end of the Series the top three riders in the Series will receive prizes as follows, kindly provided by Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai. 1st - £1,500 2nd - £1,000 3rd - £500
Racing Excellence runs alongside the Jockey Coaching Programme (JCP) and is the industry accreditation for all apprentice and conditional races which run under hands and heels or training race conditions. Initially set up by The British Racing School as ‘Support for Young Jockeys’ in 2006, the BHA re-branded the scheme in 2010 as ‘Racing Excellence’
In February 2014 The British Racing School took over the management of Racing Excellence and The JCP The latter gives all Apprentices and Conditionals the opportunity to have a coach. All coaches who are all ex-Jockeys can be on hand to help with fitness, riding technique, nutrition and race reviews. A coach will attend every Racing Excellence race to conduct the pre-race course walk and then will also debrief afterwards.
I am particularly pleased to continue our sponsorship of the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai - Racing Excellence Apprentice Handicap Series here at Salisbury Racecourse for the 2023 season.
This is a very unique series which will help mould up and coming riders in so many ways. Discipline and respect are the foundation of this series and with the guidance of George Baker, it will be of enormous benefit to the next generation of jockeys into the future.
Salisbury is a racecourse close to my heart as when I was living in the UK as a young man, I visited the track on many occasions and hold some wonderful memories of the venue.
Our investment into this series compliments our other Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai sponsorships across the UK in Newmarket and York.
Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai would like to offer our congratulations to the Board and Management at Salisbury Racecourse on this terrific initiative and wish all those who participate, every success as this series plays out over the summer months.

Race Summary: Though turned over at short odds at Epsom recently, TWILIGHT DANCER shaped like the best horse at the weights and she is taken to resume winning ways off the same mark with faster ground forecast here. If able to bounce back following a couple of low-key efforts, Revolutionary Man could emerge as the main danger ahead of turf debutante Abbey’s Dream.
