FRONT COVER IMAGE: The Sir Michael Stoute trained, CIRCLE OF FIRE, ridden by Ryan Moore, was an impressive winner of the 2 year old Novice Stakes over 1 mile on 1st September and was one of the final winners owned by Her Late Majesty The Queen.
ABOVE IMAGE: The Juddmonte owned JULIET SIERRA (pink cap) wins the G3 Dick Poole race for 2 year old fillies under Rob Hornby and for local trainer, Ralph Beckett. The filly finished fifth in Saturday’s G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket OPPOSITE IMAGE: PERSIAN ROYAL wins his fourth race in succession in the 1 mile class 3 handicap (Deer / Charlton / Davies).
Welcome to our final race meeting of the 2022 season Radcliffe & Co Season Finale.
Today is the first raceday Salisbury has staged since the death of Her Late Majesty The Queen. We had been due to race on Friday 9th, but the fixture was rightfully cancelled by the British Horseracing Authority, being the day after her passing. All of us at Salisbury were greatly saddened by Her Late Majesty’s death, and we remember a few of her horses that have raced at the course, later in the racecard
We are also very honoured that His Majesty The King has his first runner as our new monarch here at Salisbury today.
Our thanks to everyone that has supported us this year. Racegoers, corporate customers and sponsors, owners, annual badgeholders and all our racing industry participant colleagues. As always, we will watch with interest how Salisbury winners progress in the future.
Thank you for coming racing today and we very much look forward to welcoming you back next spring.
God Save The King.
Best wishes, The Directors & Staff of Salisbury

17 A guide to the horse’s recent form
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed.
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequent ly published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
JockeyRacingbreaks Ryder sets the standard on what he has shown so far and is entitled to be in the shakeup, but a chance is taken on TONY MONTANA The son of Kingman cost 425,000gns as a yearling, represents top connections and ought to possess the required ability on his racecourse bow. Muktamil looks set to relish the step up from 7f and is worth considering, along with Juddmonte filly Bluestocking, who receives 5lb from the boys
WIN: TONY MONTANA
DANGER: RACINGBREAKS RYDER
David Evans' SPIDER MURPHY bumped into a progressive rival on his debut last month and he's fancied to go one better for last year's winning yard Diamond Dreamer is related to some smart types and appeals as a likely contender, as does the precociously-bred son of Frankel Rebel Red. Demand Adaay should also be treated with respect on debut representing the Rod Millman stable.
WIN: SPIDER MURPHY
DANGER: DIAMOND DREAMER
It will take a huge performance to overturn the 90-rated BRESSON who, in first-time cheekpieces, looks more than capable of defying a penalty for his Yarmouth success Remarquee is distantly related to the talented Scope and she merits consideration on debut, for all that she may appreciate further in time. Shaaden makes plenty of appeal on paper and warrants a place on the shortlist, along with the gelded son of Churchill Finest Leader
WIN: BRESSON
DANGER: REMARQUEE
Experience can count for a lot at this time of year in novice contests and that bodes well for the filly SECRET SOLACE, who shaped with plenty of promise when keeping on well for third on her debut at Newbury. Newcomer Greek Order is one to note being a full-brother to Hampton Court winner Sangarius, as well as Ribal by Roaring Lion, who comes from a stable in fine form at present Come Together is another well-related gelding who must be considered.
WIN: SECRET SOLACE DANGER: GREEK ORDER
Not outside the first three on any of his last four outings, Bolt Action is a colt that deserves to get his head back in front but he may have to settle for minor honours once more behind the less exposed WALLOP Richard Hannon's charge wasn't disgraced in the Mill Reef last time and the form of his debut third behind the subsequent Gimcrack winner Noble Style reads particularly well. Flag Flying may have been a disappointment in the Sirenia but he is a big player on the form of his debut success at Goodwood.
WIN: WALLOP
DANGER: BOLT ACTION
WOWZERS has long threatened to land a handicap of this nature and it could be that the drop in grade may see the three-year-old gain a first win since last October Only two lengths separated King Of Jungle (fourth) and Spanish Star (third) when they met at Newbury last time and both are likely to be thereabouts again. The progressive Temple Bruer must also enter calculations, along with Beyond Equal and Neptunian.
WIN: WOWZERS
DANGER: KING OF JUNGLE
Okeechobee must have every chance if transferring recent all-weather form onto turf and he merits a lot of consideration on his handicap bow, but preference is for the William Haggas-trained EDUCATOR His latest run in April saw him claim victory by a nose, despite a slow start, and he is entitled to make his presence felt on his return from a break Gloucestershire also warrants respect dropping in grade from his latest outing in March.
WIN: EDUCATOR
DANGER: OKEECHOBEE
This could go the way of the class dropping SONGO, who boasts an impressive track record here and is now only 3lb above his last winning mark, which came over course and distance. This looks a suitable task for him to bounce back in, but La Pulga steps up in trip and seems a big threat Al Azhar is clearly much better than showing at Ascot last time.
WIN: SONGO
DANGER: LA PULGA

Despite being easy to back and very much held back by inexperience on debut at Leicester, he shaped with plenty of promise and can be expected to take a big step forward. Uncle’s Newbury introduction was similarly promising and he is also open to significant improvement, while Racingbreaks Ryder and Muktamil are others with strong claims, and a market move for any of the newcomers would be noteworthy

ESTIMATE opening her account at Salisbury Racecourse in the 1m4f Maiden Stakes on 6th May 2012
Her Late Majesty had many winners at Salisbury, the best being the Sir Michael Stoute trained Estimate, which won the 1 mile 4 furlongs Maiden Stakes, for 3 year olds, in May 2012, ridden by Pat Dobbs, at odds of 12-1. Thirteen months later, Estimate won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot providing Her Late Majesty with one of, if not the, greatest of her wins
It is known that Her Late Majesty attended Salisbury Racecourse in June 1967 to see her 10-1 chance Spanish Invader, a 2 year old colt, win the Southampton Stakes for trainer Ian Balding and jockey Geoff Lewis
Her Late Majesty also won the Listed Stonehenge Stakes with Royal Exchange (Richard Hannon / Richard Hughes) in August 2010, and her smart Carlton House, third in the 2011 Derby, had been second at Salisbury on his racecourse debut the previous September Fabricate (Michael Bell / Pat Cosgrave) won the same Maiden in 2015, that Estimate had won three years earlier, and would go on to become a dual Group 3 winner
At Salisbury’s most recent race meeting at the beginning of this month, Circle Of Fire (Sir Michael Stoute/Ryan Moore), an impressive and imposing looking 2 year old colt, won the 1 mile Novice Stakes, seven days before her passing.
Over the winter, we will produce a panel with all Her Late Majesty’s Salisbury winners and display it at the course next season.

Race Summary: WALLOP wasn’t disgraced in Group 2 company at Newbury recently and has bright prospects down in grade here, not only judged on that effort but also on his promising debut third behind subsequent Gimcrack winner Noble Style at Newmarket. The Richard Hannon-trained colt shades preference ahead of Bolt Action, who has been placed in listed company on his last three starts and is not passed over lightly Flag Flying remains one to be interested in and is the clear pick of the remaining quartet FREE form for all British and Irish meetings is available online every day at timeform.com/freeArchie was named after the racehorse ‘Archie Babe’ trained by John Quinn.
He was just 7 days old when he went to his first race meeting at Salisbury Racecourse on Tuesday 14th September 2004 and has been going regularly every year since, with parents Dave & Sue, who have been annual badgeholders since 2002.
Archie was home schooled, meaning he never had to miss a race meeting, and these were some of his best maths lessons!
Today, Archie is celebrating his 18th Birthday at the racecourse with his Mum, Dad, sister Amy, Grandad Dan and some of his friends. He is looking forward to having his first bet and beer at the course

Race Summary: The vote goes to LA PULGA, who left this season’s previous efforts well behind when third at Newbury, an effort which offered plenty of encouragement with regard to the potential suitability of this new trip. He remains on an attractive mark (runner-up off 8lb higher in a nursery last term) and the booking of Ryan Moore adds to his appeal. Oleg performed with credit at Kempton last time and is feared most for his top jumps yard, while King’s Castle and Al Azhar also warrant respect.
