WELCOME TO SALISBURY RACECOURSE Welcome to the second day of our two-day August meeting, featuring our big race of the season – the £70,000 Group 3 Tattersalls Sovereign Stakes. Last year’s winner was Megallan beating his nine rivals under a determined ride from Robert Havlin. Only the four runners in the race this year, but they are all proper Group 3 horses based on their official BHA ratings. We are delighted and very grateful to Tattersalls for returning as the sponsor to the Sovereign Stakes. In fact, all our sponsors today are regular or long-established supporters of the racecourse and we hugely appreciate their contribution and support. The next racing at Salisbury is in eight days’ time when we have the Listed EBF Longines Champions Weekend Stonehenge Stakes as the main race on the card, plus music afterwards by local band, The Deloreons. Details of this meeting and our three dates in September can all be found on the racecourse website – salisburyracecourse.co.uk The directors and staff wish you an enjoyable and successful afternoon, and we hope to see you again soon. Best wishes Jeremy Martin Executive Director & Clerk of the Course

If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight. 12 Owner’s Name(s) 13 Trainer’s Name and location of training establishment 14 Sponsor 15 Star Rating (see below) 16 Details of horse’s previous performances: Bold type indicates All-Weather Track form / denotes new season - denotes new year C - The horse has won on this racecourse D - The horse has won over this distance CD - The horse has won over both this course and distance BF - The horse was a beaten favourite on its last run 17 A guide to the horse’s recent form STAR RATING EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. Can be given little or no chance. OFFICIAL BHA RATING The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
TODAY’S TIPS RACE ONE This looks a perfect opportunity for the Hugo Palmer-trained AMERICAN IN PARIS to get off the mark at the fourth time of asking. The extra furlong on this occasion may benefit her on the evidence of her staying on well to finish second at Southwell last month. The well-bred Zaakara is entitled to have learned plenty when fifth at Newmarket on her debut and is shortlisted. Any market support for newcomer Peace Of Mine should be taken seriously. WIN: AMERICAN IN PARIS DANGER: ZAAKARA
RACE TWO FAATTIK caught the eye when third at Lingfield on debut, despite running green, and if he has learned from that experience, the son of Bated Breath may take all the beating for the Roger Varian yard. Time Step was narrowly denied a perfect two from two at Chelmsford last month and shaped like this extra furlong may unlock further improvement. Painless Potter is having his first start for Shaun Lycett and looks an intriguing runner. WIN: FAATTIK DANGER: TIME STEP
RACE THREE SILENT FLAME was a cosy winner of this race last year and although she is 7lb higher in the weights this time, the daughter of Al Kazeem has shown a clear liking for this track and is taken to repeat the feat. Commandment remains a filly in fine form at present and she is likely to enter calculations along with recent Windsor winner Sarah's Verse, who has a 5lb penalty to deal with. WIN: SILENT FLAME DANGER: COMMANDMENT
RACE FOUR In a fairly open contest, SLY MADAM could make her presence felt having just been denied over this trip at Brighton last Thursday. She is 4lb well-in compared to future events and the use of William Carver's 3lb allowance enhances her claims further. Accrington Stanley may prove to be a threat being just 1lb higher than his last winning mark at Bath in June, while Atlantic Heart is open to improvement on her first attempt over a mile. WIN: SLY MADAM DANGER: ACCRINGTON STANLEY
RACE FIVE MODERN NEWS wasn't at his best when third at Pontefract in Listed company on his latest start, but Charlie Appleby's gelding is capable of bouncing back on this occasion. He kept on well to get second at this level behind Megallan at Epsom in June and this appears to be a suitable opportunity for him to return to winning ways. Berkshire Shadow is capable of better following a below-par display at Goodwood, while Tempus is respected following his recent Ascot success. WIN: MODERN NEWS DANGER: BERKSHIRE SHADOW
RACE SIX SEA ON TIME continues to go from strength to strength since beginning her career in May and the form of her most recent win at Doncaster has been well franked by the runner-up since. William Haggas' filly remains open to further improvement on her handicap debut before potentially tackling bigger targets later in the year. Dal Mallart arrives here on a hat-trick and is respected alongside Peripatetic, who may relish the step up in trip. WIN: SEA ON TIME DANGER: DAL MALLART
RACE SEVEN ENSHRINE is taken to gain compensation from her recent second at Chelmsford with the step up in trip expected to suit. The daughter of Ulysees remains unexposed and could be fairly treated off a mark of 80 on handicap debut. Night Sparkle has stepped forward on her three outings this season and she is likely to be competitive once again, while recent course winner Whimsy may have more to offer stepping back up in distance. WIN: ENSHRINE DANGER: NIGHT SPARKLE

Raceform Median Time: 1 min 16.50 secs
Betting Forecast: 11-4 Commandment (IRE), 10-3 Sarah’s Verse (GB), 5-1 Ruby Cottage (IRE), 11-2 Trusty Rusty (GB), 6-1 Silent Flame (GB), 12-1 Willoughby Bay (IRE) Race Summary: COMMANDMENT produced her best effort yet when a close third in a competitive Pontefract handicap recently and she makes plenty of appeal off the same mark now reunited with WIlliam Buick, who was aboard when the filly scored at the aforementioned course in June. Ruby Cottage has done most of her racing at Bath, but she performed well enough at Newbury three starts back to suggest that she can be competitive elsewhere. Silent Flame is best of the rest.

The Kevin Hall & Pat Boakes Memorial Handicap Stakes Pat Boakes 22 August 1952 - 16 August 2007 Today marks the 15th running of the race originally named in the memory of Pat who was taken from us in 2007 after a valiant fight with a terrible illness. Pat was an inspiration to us all with a zest for life, he refused to allow his sickness to take control of him and continued to live as full a life as possible through pain and adversity. Whilst undergoing his treatment Pat was instrumental in bringing a group of ._____ friends together for lunches and weekend trips, this group has continued to come together since Pat's death to remember and celebrate Pat's life. We are delighted to once again spend a day at the races to remember our dear friend.
Kevin Hall
30 December 1951 - 03 August 2011
Kevin's name was added to the race title in 2012. Kevin was also part of the same circle of friends as Pat and as a lifelong, dedicated Stoke fan, Kevin was excitedly looking forward to seeing his beloved Stoke at Wembley in the 2011 FA Cup Final. Cruelly, Kevin suffered a heart attack hours before kick-off and was admitted to hospital rather than heading to Wembley. After major surgery and dedicated care Kevin was able to return home to Shetland in July but sadly passed away the following month. Kevin's ashes are buried in the pitch at Stoke y Bet 365 Stadium. Cit's Kevin's family and friends are here today to remember a loving husband, a devoted son, a loyal brother and a very close dear friend.

TIMEFORM Off the mark on turf debut when landing 3-runner minor event at this course (9.9f, good to firm) 19 days ago, leading after 3f and dictating thereafter. Opening mark looks fair and she’s one to look out for stepping back up to 1 1/2m. BHA 71
DECLARED RUNNERS 4 2021: STAY WELL 3 9 10 William Buick 10-1 (Hughie Morrison) 6 ran Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn first time by No. 1. Betting Forecast: 10-11 Enshrine (GB), 3-1 Night Sparkle (IRE), 6-1 Whimsy (GB), 15-2 Looe Beach (IRE) Race Summary: A tricky finale to solve despite the small field but preference is for ENSHRINE. She had no answer to an unfancied newcomer at Chelmsford but upped further in trip and with the cheekpieces applied, she’s fancied to make a winning start to life in handicaps. Night Sparkle shades the vote over Looe Beach for the forecast spot. FREE form for all British and Irish meetings is available online every day at timeform.com/free
