As we move into the heart of the summer season, there is plenty to look forward to here at Ripon Racecourse over the coming weeks.

We return later this month for a fantastic double-header, beginning with evening racing on Wednesday 17th June before one of the highlights of our calendar, Ladies’ Day, on Thursday 18th June. Ladies’ Day continues to grow in popularity and promises a wonderful combination of fashion, entertainment and racing, with fantastic prizes on offer courtesy of Grantley Hall, Eden Reﬂex and Live for Today for our Best Dressed Lady, Best Hat and Best Dressed Gentleman competitions.

July brings three further ﬁxtures, starting with evening racing on Monday 6th July before our ever-popular Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival meeting on Saturday 18th July, and a further evening meeting on Monday 27th July. Club Enclosure tickets for the Summer Festival are already proving popular, so we would encourage racegoers to book early to avoid disappointment.

Away from the racing, we are delighted to welcome Miestro’s to the Bandstand this evening. We hope you enjoy their performance as they provide the soundtrack to a relaxing and enjoyable evening.

On her debut at Newbury last October, GONE BY finished second to her stable companion and recent Cheshire Oaks third A La Prochaine. That form alone would probably be good enough to land this, and she confirmed her wellbeing when second on her return at Ascot last month. Golden Step, Joud and Wootton’s Gal are respected in that order, but they all need big steps forward to trouble the selection.

Barley has finished second over this C&D on four separate occasions and is reliable enough to be high on the shortlist. However, a narrow vote of confidence goes to KISS ME MY LOVE, who built on a promising second at Thirsk with a gutsy win over 1m at Redcar. A 3lb rise isn’t insurmountable and this in-form filly is an attractive proposition. Superfortress and Donna Nook are other notable options.

Raft Upwas onlybeaten a length into fourthwhen on a hat-trick at Carlisle last time and isverymuch respected in his present mood. This is a competitive handicap and only a tentative vote is for WEN MOON, who won at Musselburgh towards the end oflast season and improved on his comeback spin here when posting a solid third at Carlisle. A past C&D scorer, he edges it ahead of Canaria Queen,who is a consistent type and also bringswinning track-and-trip form to the table. Rock Of England is next best.

Karakula Dancer rarely runs a bad race and should be bang there at the business end, likewise Paroda Diva, who won well at Haydock and may have even more to oﬀer over this trip. ZIGGY’S AVENGER gets the nod, though, as he finished in front of Karakula Dancerwhen third on his handicap debut at Kempton and, on that evidence, it won’t be long before he breaks through.

OFFICIAL BHA RATING

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
