Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen, and a very warm welcome to Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse!
It’s amazing how quickly the time flies we’re already over halfway through the season, with this evening’s fixture being number nine of our sixteen. Tonight’s entertainment comes from the talented Lily Worth, who is returning to the bandstand this evening.
Our third race, The Download the Raceday Ready App Handicap, sees a battle between three previous winners here at Ripon, with Sea Regal having won at the course but not at this distance up against previous C&D winners Jesmond Dawn and Mr Jetman. Will Mr Jetman spoil everyone’s fun with a third win here this season?
There’s still plenty to look forward to, starting with the Sky Bet Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival meeting on Saturday 19th July.
Looking ahead, August is our busiest month, with four fantastic meetings lined up! On Monday 4th August, we’re excited to welcome Harrogate Theatre, who will be holding their inaugural Pantomime Horse Race as part of our Teddy Bear’s Picnic Day. Then, on Saturday 16th August, we’ll celebrate one of the season’s true highlights the William Hill Great St Wilfrid meeting. And don’t miss our Bank Holiday Family Day on Monday 25th, which will be packed with family entertainment.
Wishing you all a thoroughly enjoyable evening of racing and we hope to see you again very soon!

PoptyPing ought to prove popularhaving struck thewoodwork at Newcastle latest, but preference is forJUSTA GIRL. The daughter of Bobby’s Kitten was only beaten two lengths into sixth at Pontefract on herdebut last month and is expected to take a step forward for the in-form Charlie Johnston yard Daneh of Dandy makes some appeal on paper ahead of her introduction.
WIN: JUSTA GIRL
DANGER: POPTY PING
It looks best to side with MONETIZE. Bryan Smart’s filly was never involved in a handicap at Thirsk last time out, but she finished a narrow second over 6f here the time before and would undoubtedly go very close if finding a return to that level. Balayaged should be on the premises in receipt of 2lb from the selection, while Angel Army completes the shortlist.
TESTIMONIALhas few miles on the clock and went close in first-time cheekpieces (retained) at Wetherby last month. Tim Easterby’s charge was raised 2lb for that effort which looks fair and any further progress could see him go one place better Others to note include Jesmond Dawn and Mr Jetman, with the former feared most on the back of his pleasing Redcar display.
JESMOND DAWN
A winner off 8lb higher at Sandown last term, EQUITY LAW ran his best race since joining Tim Easterby’s yard when beaten less than a length into second at Thirsk latest. That effort suggests a return towinningways could be imminent. High Opinion enters calculations judged on his third here last time, while Protest Rally and Dothan could both go well in an open sprint.
WIN: EQUITY LAW
DANGER: HIGH OPINION
Colinski won nicelyon the turf at Lingfield last month and is preferred to Wetherby fourth Iwantmytimewithyou. However, GRAND HARBOUR also has plenty of scope for improvement and he makes most appeal representing last year’s winning yard The son of Haafhd looked to be crying out for an extra test of stamina when finishing strongly for third over 1m2f at Brighton
WIN: GRAND HARBOUR
DANGER: COLINSKI
Tim Easterby bids to win this for the fourth time in succession, so SPRING CORN warrants serious consideration. The son of Ardad bounced back to finish a close second at Redcar in first-time cheekpieces and has the potential to rate much higher than his current mark. Sabrimento also showed marked improvement when runner-up on the turf at Lingfield, while Novamay returns to 6f with solid claims.
WIN: SPRING CORN
DANGER: SABRIMENTO

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

This one mile contest for fillies and mares aged three to five-years-old is a restricted maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory who are within Bands B, C and D. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career

This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

MEDIAN TIME 1 min 1.00 secs
RECORD TIME 57.28 secs
This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 59 to 78 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 78 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 73.

Owner: Mr D. Mooney
Trainer: Dylan Cunha, Newmarket
This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 46 to 60. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 46 to 65. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.
