It is a quick turnaround for us following our great Bank Holiday Family Day yesterday and we’re looking forward to another afternoon of fantastic racing sponsored by At The Races and Sky Sports Racing.

Wishing you a great afternoon and we hope to see you again soon. Very best regards.

Our third race on the card today, at 2.35, is the 21 Engineer Regiment Sapper Nursery. Today is our local regiment’s annual visit to us, a tradition which has been in place for over 30 years now and we hope they have a fantastic day with us once more. Our feature race today is the attheraces.com City of Ripon Handicap at 3.40 and we welcome back old Ripon favourite Mark’s Choice as he bids for a seventh course win. Bossipop is another who has done very well here over the years with four course wins to his credit.

Good afternoon one and all and welcome to our penultimate meeting of the 2022 season at Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse.

WEIGHTWATCHER

The following horses are running today in a race at least two grades lower than their previous race: 2.00 BRAZILIAN BEACH (down 2 grades); 2.35 DESERT ILLUSION (down 6 grades); 3.10 SAGAUTEUR (down 2 grades).

RACE 3

Bossipop continues to slide down the weights and it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if he returned towinningways, but preference is forMARK’S CHOICE.Adrian Keatley’s sprinter ran a screamer when third here in the Great St Wilfred from well out of the handicap, and he’s since gone close at Hamilton so could still be nicely weighted if remaining in form. Cottam Lane was second at Pontefract and might make the frame again off just 1lb higher.

On the face of it, a 9lb rise might look harsh for GOOD REGAL’s Epsom triumph but the race could hardly be working out any better, with the second rattling off a hat-trick since, so Ismail Mohammed’s filly is fancied to go in again. Innse Gall ran well for third off this mark at Carlisle, while Berry Edge was just denied at Redcar and, off 2lb higher, looks set to give it another good go.

CASTAN got off the mark on his nursery debut at Musselburgh a couple of starts ago and hewas not disgraced offthis markwhen last seen at Carlisle. Based on that evidence, Bryan Smart’s gelding is arguably the one to beat. That said, Lukla put in a career best at Beverley last time and he remains open to further improvement. Others who could go well are Your Spirit and Kodi Dancer.

RACE 4

WIN: INFINITI DANGER: PURPLE REIGN

RACE 2

RACE 6

WIN: YOSHIMI DANGER: EAGLE EYED FREDDIE

TODAY’S TIPS

YOSHIMI was always doing enough when successful over 7f at Leicester last time and a 4lb rise in the ratings might not be enough to anchor him if arriving in the same mood. Eagle Eyed Freddie sits at the foot oftheweights and despite failing to complete the hat-trick when third at this venue latest, he must enter calculations. Safran and Motarajel also hold claims.

WIN: MARK’S CHOICE DANGER: BOSSIPOP

WIN: GOOD REGAL DANGER: INNSE GALL

WIN: SPARKLING RED DANGER: GIRL MAGIC

RACE 1

RACE 7

BRAZILIAN BEACH has not shown her very best form in recent starts but she dead-heated for victory off a mark of 69 at Haydock in June and that form gives her a big chance at this level. Katie’s Kitten didn’t appear to get home over 1m4f at Leicester last time but she should not be underestimated, while Lark Lane is another who could go well.

WIN: BRAZILIAN BEACH DANGER: KATIE’S KITTEN

RACE 5

A case can be made for all of these but preference is for SPARKLING RED, who hit the crossbar on all three starts prior to her impressive victory over 5f at Thirsk. A reproduction ofthat level offormwould give Michael Dods’ fillya big chance. Girl Magic has to be of some interest on her return from over three months off, while Raven’s Up edges out Three Beauz to be the pick of the remainder

WIN: CASTAN DANGER: : LUKLA

INFINITI remains in cracking form, despite failing to complete the four-timer at Doncaster latest, and with usual rider Aiden Brookes back in the saddle, she looks like the one they all have to beat. Purple Reign has been running consistently well for a number of months and he is likely to be in the shake-up once again, while Prophesise is better than he showed at Redcar on his latest outing.

HOWTO READ THE RACECARD OFFICIAL BHA RATING The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. 7 PEPPER LANE (27) 5 8 9 (6) Ch m Exceed And Excel (AUS) Maid To Matter Jockey: Graham Gibbons Owner: MrsLynneLumley&MrKNicholson Trainer: DavidO’Meara,Nawton Sponsor: ConorJ.C.Parsons&BrianM.Parsons Form: 600100 C Breeder:D.J.Lumley(Builders) TIMEFORMVIEW Bounced right back to bestwhen landing Great St Wilfred forsuccessiveyearrunning inAugust. RACE DESCRIPTION Selling Stakes exist as an outlet for connections to sell their horses. Any horse that wins a seller, such as this extended one mile one furlong contest is for three and four-year-olds, is automatically put up for public auction in the Winners’ Enclosure at the end of the race and goes to the highest bidder, so make sure to head that way after the race as the auction is usually well worth seeing.
