Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Bank Holiday Family Day at Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse!

We are renowned for our fantastic family days and we have loads of free fun for kids in the Course Enclosure this afternoon. There’s face painting, balloon modelling, an inflatable assault course and slide, barrel train rides, Cub Karts, Punch ‘n’ Judy and a magic show with Professor Dan and you can even experience what it is like to be a jockey with an equicizer!

On the track we have a great afternoon of racing, featuring the British Stallion Studs EBF Ripon Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy at 3.41, a 6f Listed contest with £40,000 prize money up for grabs. We are excited not only to see who adds their name to the roll of honour this afternoon but also how the careers of all of the contenders progress. We’re joined this afternoon by the Tom Roberts Jazz Band, so please head down to the bandstand and have a listen. Also please remember to stay well hydrated, you can acquire a glass of water free from all of our bars.

THANKUAPPRECIATE

MASQUE OFANARCHYshould be difficult to stop in pursuit ofthe hat-trick afterhe followed up his win at Beverley with another at Nottingham. Craig Lidster’s gelding did it with something in hand that day and, under the same rider, he’s fancied to add to his tally Just Hiss has been running well of late and is fancied to chase the selection home ahead of Quoteline Direct, who was second in a similar contest to this at Pontefract

WIN: THANKUAPPRECIATE

One thing that looks guaranteed in this contest is pace and that could set it up for the progressive DUTCH DECOY, who is taken to uphold form with Bashosh (second), despite being slightlyworse off at the weights for a short-head verdict at Newmarket. Course specialist Garden Oasis won this contest last year and must be respected along with Azano, who is a classy sort on his day.

WIN: AL KARRAR DANGER: SHOULDVEBEENARING

WIN: MASQUE OFANARCHY DANGER: JUST HISS

WIN: BEARWITH DANGER: PERIPETEIA

RACE 1

TODAY’S TIPS

DANGER: BETWEENTHESTICKS

Aussie Warrior makes his turf debut after two placed efforts on the all-weather and he may well improve for the change of surface. If that is the case, he should go well but giving 5lb to NIGWA may prove a big ask. Beaten a head and a neck on her two starts, she deserves to get her head in front at the third attempt. French Romance may prove to be best of the rest, but she needs to improve

WIN: COSMOS RAJ DANGER: ENFORCED

WIN: NIGWA DANGER: AUSSIE WARRIOR

RACE 2

The obvious starting point is the recent clash overC&D between the likes ofPeripeteia (first), Make A Prophet (second), and BEARWITH (third). Philip Kirby’s filly has a 5lb rise to overcome forthatvictoryand she mayhave a tough task of upholding the form with the last-named,who is 6lb betteroffforfinishing just underthree lengths behind. City Vaults and Cloch Nua are expected to be thereabouts as well.

Enforced could find plenty of improvement for the application of blinkers and, as a three-year-old, there may be more improvement to come. Preference is still for COSMOS RAJ, the winner of two of his three starts here, including an easy C&D success at the start ofthe month, and another5lb might not stop him following up for the O’Meara team.ValueTheory must be considered closely too.

RACE 3

RACE 7

RACE 4

RACE 5

Shouldvebeenaring was produced perfectly by Sean Levey to justify favouritism in a big sales race at York and he seems sure to make a bold bid for his hat-trick. He may prove a big dangertoALKARRAR,whowon his first start atWindsorbefore finishing an excellent second to Royal Scotsman in the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Bolt Action is turned out again quicklyfollowing his third in the Roses Stakes and he enters the equation as well.

Marginal preference is for THANKUAPPRECIATE, who has improved with each start despite showing plentyofgreenness, and his form figures point towards todaybeing the day. Jaxta hasn’t shown much since getting the better of Betweenthesticks over C&D in May, and the latter is fancied to overturn the form now courtesy of a 7lb pull in the weights. Penalty Charge is a player based on the pick of his form.

HOWTO READ THE RACECARD OFFICIAL BHA RATING The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. 7 PEPPER LANE (27) 5 8 9 (6) Ch m Exceed And Excel (AUS) Maid To Matter Jockey: Graham Gibbons Owner: MrsLynneLumley&MrKNicholson Trainer: DavidO’Meara,Nawton Sponsor: ConorJ.C.Parsons&BrianM.Parsons Form: 600100 C Breeder:D.J.Lumley(Builders) TIMEFORMVIEW Bounced right back to bestwhen landing Great St Wilfred forsuccessiveyearrunning inAugust. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

DESCRIPTION

This

is a one mile and three furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65 Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

FROM

SE VE NTH RA CE 29 PLAY SMARTER The vote goes to JUST HISS, who has remained in good order since scoring at Newcastle and did well to Ënish as close as he did when runner-up at Catterick a fortnight ago. He remains on a handy mark based on past exploits and this drop back in trip is unlikely to be an issue. Masque of Anarchy got the better of the selection at Beverley last month, but is by no means certain to repeat the dose on these revised terms. Still, he is greatly respected and is second choice ahead of Rocket Dancer TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.JUST HISS 2.MASQUE OF ANARCHY (IRE) 3.ROCKET DANCER RACE RESULT RACE TIME 1ST 2ND 3RD 4TH DISTANCE ON COURSE RACEGOER SAFETY
