Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to our penultimate meeting of the season at Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse.

It is a quick turnaround for us following our great Bank Holiday Family day yesterday and we’re looking forward to another afternoon of fantastic racing sponsored by At The Races and Sky Sports Racing.

Our third race on the card today is the 21 Engineer Regiment Sapper Nursery. Today is our local regiment’s annual visit to us, a tradition which has been in place for over 30 years now (last year being an obvious exception) and we hope they all have a fantastic day with us.

Incredibly we have just one meeting remaining in our 2021 season!

SELBY’S PRIDE has improved with every start to date and she was only beaten a neck when finishing second over 5f at Beverley last time. If she can take another step forward, the daughter of Lethal Force should be hard to beat. Lucy Lulu has plenty of experience and is an obvious threat to the selection. The rest look to be up against it, but Miss Belladonna is arguably the pick of them.

YANKEE STADIUM only found one too good off a mark of 74 in a handicap at Newmarket two starts ago and he should be hard to beat at this sort of level. She’s No Angel put in a career best when scoring at Musselburgh last week and she may have more to offer this afternoon. Little Ted and Gone Mod are others who merit consideration.

Saisons D’Or drops in class after a poor run at Thirsk but a hood is applied and if he can repeat the performance of his Ayr second in June, he is a force to reckon with.

Antagonize battled back to win at Beverley and has a great attitude, but AVAILABLE ANGEL ended a run of placed efforts with a victory at Yarmouth and with her 6lb penalty offset by Kieran Schofield’s 5lb claim, can go in again.

Mark’s Choice posted a career-best effort when triumphing in the Great St Wilfrid consolation race over C&D on his first run after a wind operation. The five-year-old could follow up but preference is for I AM A DREAMER, who has a 5lb swing in his favour having finished fourth on that occasion. Pivoting is still relatively lightly raced and there could be more to come after a short break.

Strawman arrives in pursuit of third successive victory and the four-year-old merits the utmost respect, although a 5lb rise for his most recent triumph looks fairly harsh.

With that in mind, C&D winner BRIARDALE gets the nod to land the spoils having been dropped 2lb for his most recent effort. Bollin Margaret couldn’t make an impact in a tough contest at York but she is another to consider in calmer waters.

SHAMLAAN won well on his nursery debut over 5f at Musselburgh a month ago and the progressive son of Mehmas may be hard to stop once again. Ayling hit the crossbar at Beverley two starts ago and he should not be underestimated, while Mereside Angel and Qwicken are others who are capable of going well in a very competitive contest.

Spantik is interesting down in class after a five-length fourth at Carlisle and he could go well off 1lb lower, but NEAR KETTERING arrives on the back of a clear-cut win over timber when sent off favourite at Market Rasen. Back on the Flat, he appears nicely treated and can follow up. Haizoom has been holding his form quite well, may have more to come, and is another to consider.

OFFICIAL BHA RATING The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. This is a two mile and handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band.

However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is.
