Race preview from Weatherbys It is an absolute pleasure to be sponsoring three races across the card at Redcar this afternoon and Cheeky Chesca arrives to the Weatherbys Stallion Book Nursery Handicap on the back of an impressive victory at Catterick last time. Tim Easterby’s Invincible Army filly surged clear to a comfortable two-length success and can go on progressing from a 6lb higher mark.

She was a €100,000 purchase as a yearling and makes her handicap debut from a mark of 71. Owner Jaber Abdullah also has Flower Youmzain in here for Kevin Ryan, and she looks the type to make her mark now switched to handicaps following a brace of encouraging runs at Beverley and Carlisle.

A competitive field of 12 are set to line up in the Weatherbys & Birdie Calendars Handicap where the top weight will be carried by Rizal for George Scott. The four-year-old was below par last time but looked progressive when winning his previous two and it would be no surprise to see him get back on track here. David O’Meara’s Saxophonist still searches for an elusive first career success, but has been mightily consistent, posting back-to-back runner-up finishes the last twice. Stablemate Percy’s Daydream finished runner-up over course-and-distance last time and remains just 3lbs above her last winning mark.

Although a beaten favourite at Hamilton last time, Persian King gelding Sheikhnshah will bid to make amends in the weatherbysshop.co.uk Novice Stakes. Third on all four of his career starts to date for Julie Camacho, he should step forward for that outing after a break and his earlier form, including here at Redcar, reads strongly.

Ciao Capo has won three of his last five and should appreciate a return to better ground here after his third at Beverley last time whilst admirable eleven-year-old Poet’s Dawn is the sole course winner in this field and has dropped back down to his last winning mark for Tim Easterby.

Gemma Tutty’s Lady Vega is well related, a sibling to three winners, and should continue to improve with experience, whilst Jack Channon’s Pointed showed encouraging signs
