William“Billy”Higgins

2nd February 1943-24th October 2024.

Our Billy was a true gentleman with a heart of gold, and the best dad, husband, brother, uncle, grandad and friend Billy spent his life in Middlesbrough and Redcar surrounded by his family: his wife Eileen, his two daughters Elizabeth and Claire, his siblings Mary, Kathleen and Sean and Carmel who he brought up like a daughter. In 2013 and 2017 his wish of having grandchildren came true when Elizabeth and Michael had their children Daniel and Madelyn.

He was a dedicated, hard-working man who left school at 15 to work at British Steel in order to provide for his family. He always put his family first and had a strong sense of loyalty to his friends.

Billy had a deep love for animals, especially cats. He also loved to go fly fishing and regularly went to the races with his friends and work colleagues He loved a good “flutter”on the horses and even had a share in a racehorse.

Billy’s life came to an end on 24th October 2024, and this race has been sponsored in his name so that his life can be celebrated and his stories be shared. We would like to thank you for taking the time to come and share special memories of Billy, who brought us all so much love and laughter.
