Race preview from Weatherbys

It is a real pleasure to be sponsoring four races across the card at Redcar this afternoon, and Roger Varian looks to have foundaniceopportunityforMyCloudtoget off the mark in the weatherbysshop.co.uk Novice Stakes. The three-year-old is a Blue Pointhalf-brothertomultipleGroup1winner PalacePieranddisplayedplentyofpromise when runner-up on debut at Newcastle in February. He travelled extremely well through the contest but just appeared to lack experience as he ran green under pressure, edgedoutlate.

He should come forward for the experience, although does have a lengthy break to overcome.

Themaindangersintheraceareperhapsthe vastlymoreexperiencedpairofWalsingham and Ghaihaban. The former was winless in eight starts in Ireland for Dermot Weld but hassincebeengeldedandchangedhands, now trained by David O’Meara. A consistent type, itissurelyonlyamatteroftimebefore he gets his head in front. Andrew Balding’s three-year-oldfillyGhaihabanhasfollowed homesomesmarttypesindefeatthisterm, including two rated over 100, and drops down in trip after a mid-division finish at Kemptonlastmonth.

The Weatherbys Stallion Book Nursery Handicap looks incredibly competitive, with a field of 14 set to head to post. Fallen Soldier and Perfidia are closely matched based on their last starts, second and third respectively in a similar event at Thirsk last week. Both arrive on the same terms, with the former tried in first-time cheekpieces. JohnandSeanQuinn’sSoldiersCallgelding tookakeenholdearlyandshouldbeableto confirmtheformifsettlingbetterhere.

Charlie Fellowes’ Saytarr was just run down late by the reopposing Herecomesthebear at Ffos Las last time but will now receive a 4lbweightswingwiththatrivalhere.Hewas perhapsjustoutstayedintestingconditions that day and will be hoping the rain stays awayhere.Herecomesthebearmustbounce back from a below par effort at Hamilton since.

ArchieWatson’sZoustarfillyFortelezamakes herhandicapdebutherefromamarkof68 and caught the eye with how she finished in a Wolverhampton maiden last time, despite being carried slightly right by the drifting winner. Roger Varian’s Brandywine Falls is closely related to some smart types, includingtheGroup1-placedSaintLawrence and 2019 Albany and Rockfel Stakes winner Daahyehforthesamestable.Shewasslowly into stride on handicap debut last time and

looked outpaced over the minimum trip, so thisreturntosixfurlongsshouldsuit.

There are two divisions of the Weatherbys Digital Solutions Handicap staged over ten furlongs, and Liberty Coach sets a good standard in the first of those. John and Sean Quinn’s three-year-old chases the hattrick here after consecutive victories at Doncaster, thelatestofthoseacomfortable four-length success ten days ago. The Le Havre gelding must shoulder a 6lb penalty forthatsuccessbutthatmaynotbeenough to halt this winning run if in a similar vein of form.

JohnWainwright’sEeeteeholdsafinerecord here at Redcar, notching up two victories from four starts over course and distance.

Whilst winless since a victory here last May, the six-year-old ran well when fourth here last time and has now dropped to 9lbs below that last winning mark.

Charlie Johnston landed the spoils in this race last year and his Secret World has

improvedforthestepupintripoflate, whilst Micky Hammond’s Piecederesistance went downbyjustanecklasttimeandlookswellhandicappedfromamarkof72.Sambucus and Wind River are a pair of unexposed handicap debutants that add extra intrigue tothecontest.

True Wisdom looks to hold solid claims in the second division, having been denied by just a neck over course and distance last time. The three-year-old filly got the betterofGroup3winnerBellumJustumina maidenlasttermandsubsequentlychased homeaRoyalAscotwinneronreturninApril. She looks potentially well-treated from an unchanged mark of 77. Highwaygrey could never get involved from the rear and must improve out of the gates to get closer this time.

Grant Tuer’s Titanium was a determined winner over course and distance on his penultimate start. The three-year-old also has a runner-up finish here on his record and can bounce back returning to Redcar. Anjo Bonita signed off the last campaign in fine form for Roger Fell and Sean Murray, notchingvictoriesatHamiltonandYork, but has been unable to recapture that form in two starts this year. The four-year-old has since moved stables and is once again trainedbyMickyHammond, whoshestarted hercareerwith.

Tongue Strap worn first time by No 7.

Running for the first time since Gelding No. 2.

Stewards Note: DARK VENTURE: Following its run on 5/9/2024 it was reported that the horse lugged left-handed under pressure

PROBABLE S.P.’s 5-4 My Cloud (IRE), 11-4 Walsingham (IRE), 9-1 Ghaihaban (GB), 10-1 Dark Venture (IRE), 20-1 Wessex (IRE), 28-1 Melodiam (IRE), 50-1 Grovely Belle (IRE), 66-1 Supernova Steps (GB), 100-1 Fast Fred (GB)

THE TIMEFORM VIEW Palace Pier’s half-brother MY CLOUD showed plenty of promise when narrowly denied on his debut back in February and can go one better on his return. This is a rather belated first outing of the season for Walsingham but he’s the obvious form threat to the selection if retaining anything like the ability he showed for Dermot Weld in Ireland last year
