PICK YO UR WINNER

Youcan place abet in the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with aracecourse ‘bookies’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection. Alternatively, you can place abet at one of the many totepool betting points all around the racecourse or at the totesport betting shop on the ground floor of the Petch Stand, which is identical to ahigh street betting shop.

The key below appears on all racing pages.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

VIEW BY YOUR SIDE was possibly a shade rusty when returning from a break at Yarmouth and, with that run under his belt, he could be worth chancing in this open-looking handicap, particularly if the ground turns out to be on the slow side of good. Though most of Royal Prospect’s best form has come on a fast surface, he has performed well on soft in the past and looks set for another leading role, while Bold Territories, successful on the all-weather the last twice, and Russian Virtue also have claims. DARK CRUSADE left his debut effort well behind when a close third in a Catterick maiden and, with the possibility of better to come, he could be the answer. Lady Jane Grey made a successful start on turf at Lingfield in May and wasn’t beaten far back from a break on polytrack there last month. She is second choice, for all that she’ll be taking a step into the unknown ground-wise if the forecast rain arrives. Thankuappreciate, a ready winner at Ripon recently, is also feared. 1.DARK CRUSADE (IRE) 2.LADY JANE GREY 3.THANKUAPPRECIATE BRITISH BONUS SCHEME

The drop back to 6f counted against PRAIRIE FALCON at Newcastle recently, but he still performed with credit and the horse he beat in a Glorious Goodwood nursery in July, X J Rascal, scored off a BHA mark of 81 at Doncaster last week. Michael Dods’s juvenile remains open to improvement and is taken to resume winning ways back up in trip here. Hello Deira shapes as though ready for this step up in trip and he is next on the list ahead of fellow nursery debutant Nightout.
