WELCOME

WELCOME TO

Dear Friends Of Punchestown,

On behalf of the Kildare Hunt Club and the entire team here at Punchestown Racecourse I’m delighted to welcome you to Day 2 of the 2026 Punchestown Festival, Ladbrokes Gold Cup Day.

The Punchestown Festival is a massive event that ignites local pride and captures national attention. A celebration over 5 days for the culmination of the jumps season boasting 12 Grade 1 races and a record prize fund of over €3.6 million in 2026 drawing champions, dreamers and crowds from far and wide With a reputation which brings both responsibility and pressure to deliver perfect jumping ground It is Ireland’s largest corporate hospitality event, where top class racing meets the glamour of fashion, the joy of entertainment and creates special moments and memories that last a lifetime But beyond the numbers, the prestige and the spectacle - Punchestown is more than that, Punchestown is special, Punchestown is tradition.

Our key focus is to instil that tradition so that the business continues to evolve and grow so that we safeguard Punchestown for the generations to come. We were also delighted to be recognised as Racecourse of the Year in Ireland in 2025 following a hugely successful year This would simply not be possible without the support of each and every one of you and the integral part you play in continuing the Punchestown tradition, Thank You.

The eagerly anticipated renewal of the Grade 1 €300,000 Ladbrokes Gold Cup takes centre stage as the feature race on day two. I would particularly like to welcome all the team from Ladbrokes who are long standing supporters of Punchestown and indeed all of our commercial partners today and indeed throughout the week for your invaluable support. Without your involvement it wouldn’t be possible for us to attract and showcase the very best jump racing stars on both sides of the Irish Sea, for the grand finale of the Irish jump racing season.

J.P. McManus is well renowned as being one of the greatest supporters of National Hunt racing, not only as a prominent owner, but also as the sponsor of the Adare Manor Opportunity Series, the final of which takes place today. This fantastic initiative provides young jockeys in the early stages of their career with a huge opportunity to gain experience and showcase their talent on the racecourse This is only one of the many ways in which both J.P. and Noreen support the racing industry for which we are extremely grateful. I’ve no doubt that we are looking at some of the potential future stars of the weighroom in action today as a result.

The Punchestown Festival is some enjoy. hope Ladbr S

The Punchestown Festival really is something to savour, we hope that you enjoy the action on and off the track with a host of entertainment lined up for all to enjoy. Don’t miss a moment of the magic, enjoy the Punchestown experience and hopefully you get a few winners as well!

I look forward to welcoming you all back tomorrow for more exhilarating action with the Ladbrokes Stayers Hurdle the feature highlight on Day 3 with the first race going to post at 2.30pm.

RACE SUMMARY

Race sponsor JP McManus recouped his money last year when Thanksforthehelp landed this for David Pipe, but the grey has been out of form since and AGUELLID looks the main hope in the green and gold colours this time The keen-going top-weight has solid form at right-handed tracks and settled somewhat better when scoring at Wincanton in February. He could be on a nice mark for his first handicap Radiator Springs was second in a big-field contest at Fairyhouse and may be suited by this longer trip, while Sir Allen returned from a long absence to win on the Flat at Navan and has claims on the pick of his hurdles form. RACE SUMMARY

Eric McNamara holds L’EVANGELISTE in high regard and the Pastorius gelding can complete a hat-trick. Sean Flanagan’s mount has made all on his last two outings, but connections feel he’ll be better with a lead. His record when fresh is reasonably good so a five-month layoff isn’t a major concern, particularly with such a good prize up for grabs. Rated 1lb higher than the selection, Vitorio Piel looks a big danger A bumper winner at this meeting last year, he readily beat Grey Jude at Leopardstown in March and 3m may have been too far last time Simply Natural has made a promising start over hurdles and is in receipt of weight.

RACE SUMMARY

Paul Townend rides Soir De Garde and the refitting of a hood should help his chance, but preference is for the other Willie Mullins-trained runner BUNTING. Third in last year’s Cesarewitch, he ran well in a Leopardstown handicap hurdle at Christmas and his latest performance in the BetMGM Cup wasn’t without merit either He drops in class and decent ground will suit. Riskaway has been outclassed in Grade 1 company on his last two starts but the form of his maiden win at Thurles in November is strong, while Quinta Do Lago was a creditable fifth in the Fred Winter and may improve for this longer trip WIN: BUNTING

Seven of these ran in the Albert Bartlett and THE PASSING WIFE is taken to reverse form with Fruit De Mer and can land this Grade 1 for Gavin Cromwell He was only a head behind Fruit De Mer when the pair were placed last month and is a dual winner at this track. Third in the Royal Bond over 2m earlier in the season, that bit of tactical speed might give him the edge Fruit De Mer showed much-improved form at Cheltenham and can contend again while Doctor Steinberg, a disappointing favourite on that occasion, is now tried in a hood Talented mare Zanoosh has been hugely progressive on testing ground and steps further up in trip WIN: THE PASSING WIFE EACH-WAY: FRUIT DE MER

RACE SUMMARY

THE MOURNE RAMBLER can continue the good record of Champion Bumper winners competing in this race, and can confirm his superiority over six reopposing rivals. Bought for 45,000 euros as a store, the Noel Meade-trained five-year-old won a smart Leopardstown bumper back in December and, at the Cheltenham Festival last month, he scored impressively That form traditionally works out well here, with three of the last four winners having followed up Boycetown finished fourth at Cheltenham but has a bit to find, while Love Sign D’aunou disappointed then but had previously shown stronger form at Naas.

RACE SUMMARY

The reappearing NOUVOTIC steps up in grade, but this will have been a target and he has suitable ground conditions. Although beaten from a hurdles rating of just 116 at last year’s Festival, he is lightly raced and remains a little unexposed as a seven-year-old chaser He is 8lb higher than when scoring at Wexford, with that race’s runner-up franking the form in finishing fourth in the Grand Annual King Alexander ran well in Cheltenham’s novices’ handicap chase, while Down Memory Lane was Grade 1-placed in December 2024 and won a Listed handicap chase last December WIN: NOUVOTIC

FEATURE LADBROKES GOLD CUP FACTS & STATS

GRADE 1

OVERVIEW

One of three Grade 1 races run on the second day of the Festival, the Gold Cup is the only Grade 1 Steeplechase on today’s card. First run in its current format in 1999, the first two renewals went to the legendary Ruby Walsh, who bowed out as a fan-favourite aboard Kemboy in 2019 Willie Mullins has seen the most recent success in this race, landing four of the past 10 renewals, with the latest coming with the two time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs.

LAST YEAR’S WINNER

PRIZE MONEY

€300,000

KEY TRENDS

4 of the past 10 winners were sent off as favourite

19 of the past 21 winners were aged 7-9

14 of the past 20 winners were second-season chasers

After being turned over at odds-on twice prior in this race, Galopin Des Champs produced a dominant, pillar-to-post success, finally justifying the short price. Sent straight to the front by Paul Townend, he jumped boldly and maintained a relentless gallop throughout. Turning for home, he quickened clear with ease, putting the race to bed in a matter of strides and staying on strongly up the run-in to school his rivals, leaving Spillane’s Tower 22 lengths in his wake. Adding this Grade 1 success cemented his standing as the leading staying chaser of his generation and a true recent hero.

THIS YEAR’S PREVIEW

Gaelic Warrior bids to complete the Cheltenham-Punchestown double and couldn’t have been more impressive in March. He looks the one they must all beat and it’s no surprise to see Paul Townend in the saddle Fact To File has been kept fresh for this after skipping both Cheltenham and Aintree and this would have been the target He got the better of Gaelic Warrior in the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup by 5 lengths and these two look set for a battle once again. Inothewayurthinkin is another J P McManus representative who landed the Cheltenham Gold Cup in fine style in 2025. He’s not been able to repeat that form since, despite a good third this year Grangeclare West is chanced after his early fall in the Grand National, while Champ Kiely finished eighth and this looks a more suitable trip

RACE SUMMARY

Gold Cup heroes GAELIC WARRIOR and Inothewayurthinkin, along with high-profile Cheltenham withdrawal Fact To File, intriguingly meet again. Gaelic Warrior scored brilliantly in the blue riband, is at the peak of his powers, and while twice beaten by Fact To File, both those races were at Leopardstown where he has never shown his best. Admittedly, Fact To File is fresher having been withdrawn from the Ryanair Chase due to ground conditions but Gaelic Warrior has an excellent course record here. Inothewayurthinkin has been beaten by the aforementioned pair plenty of times and reserves his best for the Cheltenham Festival He has 10 lengths to find with the selection on last month’s enigmatic Gold Cup third.

HANDICAPS EXPLAINED

After three races on the track, the handicap rating system knows enough about a horse to give them an official rating, which in turn determines how much weight they carry in future contests.

For example, if one horse is rated 100, and the other is rated 95, the horse rated five points more than the other will essentially carry an additional 5lb in weight. Should the horse carrying 5lb extra continue to beat horses rated inferior to them or amongst those with similar figures, that horse would rise up the class system to tackle harder races against better individuals.

The aim of a handicap race is to give every horse an equal chance of winning, and the plan is to have every horse crossing the finish line at the same time - which is surprisingly yet to happen!

Race preview from Weatherbys

Day two concludes with the Weatherbys General Stud Book Irish EBF Mares INH Flat Race, a Grade 3 bumper which Willie Mullins has won four times since theracewasintroducedin2016.

Successful with Augusta Kate, Colreevy, Grangee and Junta Marvel,Mullinssaddlessevenina bid for a fifth win in 10 renewals, with son Patrick opting to partner Glens Anthem, a well-bred daughter of Harzand who ran out an impressive winner on soft ground at Navan last month. Out of Grade 1-winning hurdler Glens Melody, she created a good impressiononracecoursedebut.

Jody Townend partnered Mullins’ most recent winner Junta Marvel and will ride Limerick winner Even Tho, who fell at the last fence with a maiden Point at her mercy. The eventual winner won a Warwick bumper by 19 lengths beforeprovingunrulyatSandown (withdrawn) and finishing midfield in the Nickel Coin at Aintree, when she was again fractious to post. That gives the form a solid feel, however, and the daughter of Crystal Ocean finished strongly over 2m3f at Limerick, suggesting she will stay well in time. Being a half-sister to The Enabler, her pedigree would concur.

AlArrivee is a half-sister to dual Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo and split a couple of 125-rated hurdlers when beaten at Galway, whilst Goulmichette was far too keen when only third at Ayr, having earlier impressed when winningaPoint.BarryO’Neilltakes over in the saddle and she could improve in a first-time hood, although interestingly, Mullins has since been sent the wide-

marginwinnerofthatAyrcontest, Latosca du Houx. Formerly trained by Nicky Richards, the grey came from off the pace to win easily and looks to be an interesting recruit to the Mullins stable.

Wonderful Everyday won at this fixture last year but has been beaten three times this term, latterly by Belladaball in Listed company at Fairyhouse over Easter, a race in which Mullins’ other runner, Some Pretender, finishedbackinthird.

The winner showed much improved form on that occasion, having previously been beaten bythefifth-placedmareatDown Royal. She is trained by Gavin Cromwell, who also runs Coole Cafe, winner of an academy hurdle and two bumpers, latterly inListedcompanyatLimerick. The KodiBearfillyfinishedwelltobeat the geldings in a four-year-old onlyrace,althoughtherunner-up didn’tdomuchfortheformatAyr onScottishGrandNationalday.

Born Believing beat Tintara narrowly at Cork, whilst Celestial Tune is another Listed winner (since pulled-up in Grade 2 company at Leopardstown) and Kiltybo finished seventh at Aintree, having earlier made all to win on testing ground at Thurles and Naas, where she had Treadonmydreams 18 lengths awayinfourth.

Sapphire Jewel, beaten 25 lengths by Even Tho at Limerick, and Maxmillian Lady complete theline-up,thelatterhavingtwice switched stables since finishing in front of Some Pretender when second in the Listed Mucklemeg Bumper at Gowran Park in earlyOctober.

RACE SUMMARY

GLENS ANTHEM has an excellent pedigree and showed real potential in scoring last month. Related to many smart performers, her dam Glens Melody won infamously at Cheltenham in 2015, when capitalising on Annie Power’s final-flight fall Glens Anthem defeated mostly fellow debutants in scoring at Navan, but impressively clocked a fast time in beating a Charles Byrnes-trained gamble into second place. Coole Cafe won at Listed level at Limerick but is vulnerable to high-class types, while Maximillian L ady finished second in a Listed bumper at Gowran in October and debuts for new connections.
