WELCOME

WELCOME TO

Dear Friends Of Punchestown,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Punchestown for the second and final day of our Summer in Town weekend and the closing fixture of the 2025/2026 racing season.

Following a wonderful day of racing yesterday, we are delighted to welcome racegoers, owners, trainers, jockeys and supporters back for what promises to be an enjoyable afternoon featuring a competitive eight-race card. Summer in Town has become a much-loved fixture in our calendar and provides a fitting opportunity to celebrate another memorable season at Punchestown.

Today, we are especially pleased to welcome and thank our sponsors: The INHSC, Lily & Wild, Dowlings of Ballyshannon, TRM Equine Nutrition, Bermingham Cameras, K-Mech Mechanical and The Irish EBF. Your generosity and commitment are vital to the success of days like today, and we are sincerely grateful for your valued support. We extend particular thanks to K-Mech Mechanical, our title sponsors for today’s fixture.

We are also honoured to be joined by some very special guests as we remember our dear Punchestown friend, Jim “Sandy” Ryan, and celebrate his enduring legacy at Punchestown. Jim was a cherished member of our community and it is fitting that we take time today to reflect on the contribution he made to the racecourse and to so many people within Irish racing.

As we bring the season to a close, it is worth reflecting on what has been another outstanding year for Punchestown. Festival 2026 once again showcased the very best of our sport, with tremendous crowds, exceptional racing and a wonderful atmosphere throughout the week. The enthusiasm and support of racegoers, owners, trainers, jockeys, sponsors, volunteers and staff combined to create another memorable chapter in the history of the festival and the racecourse

A visit to the ground floor of the main grandstand is well worthwhile today, where Bermingham Cameras are hosting a photography exhibition celebrating the spirit of Punchestown. Students, enthusiasts and photography club members were invited to capture the people, place and atmosphere that make Punchestown so unique and the resulting collection is both striking and heartfelt.

On behalf of everyone at Punchestown, thank you for your continued support throughout the season. We wish all owners, trainers and jockeys the very best of luck this afternoon and extend our thanks to everyone who has contributed to another successful year of racing.

Finally, I wish you all a fantastic summer and every success at the many excellent racing festivals taking place around Ireland over the coming months. We look forward to welcoming you back to Punchestown on Tuesday, 15th September, when we launch the new season with our only flat racing fixture.

RACE SUMMARY

Having bumped into a smart type when runner-up at Wexford last month, SUPERSUNDAE can go one better Off the mark over fences in impressive fashion on his penultimate start at Kilbeggan, the Willie Mullins-trained gelding remains unexposed as a chaser Easily the best of these over hurdles, this looks a nice opportunity for the son of Authorized to resume winning ways. Sky Lord has yet to open his account over fences but has plenty of experience, including when seventh in a warm Listed handicap at the Festival here in April He looks the main danger Winning point-to-pointer Ma Jacks Hill is entitled to improve from his recent chasing debut when third at Limerick last month. RACE SUMMARY

Badly hampered before subsequently unseating at the festival here last month, YORADREAMER can gain compensation. An easy winner over this trip at Wexford on his previous start, the Willie Mullins-trained gelding should be suited by this tactical affair. Likely to make the running under Anna McGuinness, the seven-year-old could prove difficult to pass if getting into a rhythm in front. Former point-to-point winner Emily Love is interesting stepping up to this trip for the first time under Rules. A prolific scorer over hurdles, the Gordon Elliott-trained mare remains unexposed over fences. Raglan Road was pulled up here last month but holds every chance on his previous winning effort at Down Royal.

RACE SUMMARY

Pulled up when sent off favourite for the Mayo National last time, HE’S GORGEOUS can recover losses. Never travelling on that occasion, the Pat Fahy-trained gelding is better judged on his penultimate run when an excellent fifth over course and distance last month. With the forecast rain very much in his favour, the seven-year-old can prove his latest effort to be all wrong. Captain Conby has shaped well enough in two starts after a long absence to suggest that he is capable of adding to his three previous victories. Fairyhouse scorer Me Wee Bonnie Lass should also be noted, despite being raised 8lb for that win.

Second at Ballinrobe last month, MARY’S PRIDE can go one place better Staying on late to claim minor honours at the western track, the Edward Cawley-trained gelding gave the impression that this step up in trip could see him regain the winning thread. A four-time winner on the Flat when trained in Britain, Cock And Bull is one to note in the market Sure to be suited by this longer distance, the Make Believe gelding remains capable of better over timber Lakewood Rose should again run her usual solid race for owner/trainer/jockey Niamh Hennessy.

RACE SUMMARY

SOME PRETENDER placed in a couple of Listed bumpers after winning on debut at last year’s Galway Festival and starts off over hurdles in a weak maiden. Her siblings have won over this trip or farther and, after two runs in April following a winter break, connections will be hoping that she can progress in this discipline over the summer c was second in a couple of useful bumpers and should improve from last month’s hurdling debut where she tired having made the running. After eight months off, Crossbar Getaway steps up in trip after filling the runner-up spot at Clonmel

RACE SUMMARY

Second in a 3m point-to-point in England, LE QUESTIONNAIRE has found just one too good on his last two starts over hurdles. Gordon Elliott’s grey kept plugging away over 2m3f at Downpatrick last time and looks worth trying over this longer trip Captain Hanley made an encouraging start over hurdles when a staying-on second over 2m4f at Clonmel and can be forgiven unseating at Kilbeggan as the saddle slipped Jerry From Kerry has yet to match his smart bumper form in this discipline, but he was well backed last time and now takes a marked step up in trip Will Wilde was disappointing here last month, but the form of his sixth in a Pertemps Qualifier at Leopardstown in late 2024 reads well

ABBREVIATIONS EXPLAINED

You will occasionally see letters after a horses form figures in the racecard today - for example 45-2301 CD BF But what do these actually mean and why are they shown?

C Stands for course and simply means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown. You may have heard the phrase ‘Horses for courses ’ which implies that some horses perform better at certain racecourses. Therefore, previous winning form here at Punchestown may suggest that it will run well again today.

D Stands for distance and means that the horse has won over the same distance it is racing over today but at another racecourse So today’s distance should suit.

CD Stands for course and distance so not only has the horse previously won here at Punchestown but when doing so it also won over the same distance that it is racing over today. So, winning form over today’s course and distance may indicate that another strong performance is on the cards.

C D If there is gap between the C and the D it means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown and also won over the same distance that it is racing over today but at another racecourse So today’s distance should suit and the horse will also be suited by the course

BF Stands for Beaten Favourite. Advises that a horse was well fancied in the past but despite being sent off favourite it failed to win. This can be off-putting to some punters especially if it is sent off favourite again today.

So now when you run through today’s runners and riders, you can identify which horses run well here at Punchestown and those which will be well suited by the distance that they are racing over.

BETTING EXPLAINED

The first thing to consider is which type of bet you wish to place. The most common is a win bet, where if your selection wins, you win. It is a no nonsense, on the nose bet and if you are lucky enough to pick a big-priced winner, you will receive a nice return. For example, place €5 to win on a 10-1 shot and you will receive €55 back, €50 winnings plus your €5 stake. Another common bet is each-way This is effectively two bets in one One bet is on your selection to win and the other is on it to place. Depending on the type of race and how many runners are in the race will determine how many places are offered The industry standard bookmaker place terms are as follows:

All races of less than 5 runners – win only

All races of 5-7 runners –1/4 odds a place, 1,2

All other races of more than 8 runners –1/5, 1,2,3

Handicaps of 12-15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3

Handicaps of more than 15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3,4

RACE SUMMARY

JACKMOON had some good bumper form early in his career and has been consistent of late over hurdles. Touched off in a maiden at Cork in April, he was placed in a 3m handicap last time and just needs to find a little more to record a first win. With a recent comeback run under his belt, William Tell, who represents an in-form yard, could be a danger He won twice last year and the way he stayed an extended 2m6f at Thurles suggests that this trip will hold no fears for him. Stamina is the question mark over Morell River, a dual winner over 2m4f at Wexford.

RACE SUMMARY

A half-sister to Al Boum Photo, AL ARRIVEE drops in class and can record a second bumper victory. After winning at Sligo last summer, the daughter of Tunis competed well against some useful geldings when second at Galway Returning to action here in April, she had a lot of capable types behind her when fourth to an impressive stablemate in a Grade 3 contest. cwas outclassed in a Grade 2 at Aintree, but has been placed either side of that effort. Downpatrick winner Coco’s Legacy is another to watch out for.

HANDICAPS EXPLAINED

After three races on the track, the handicap rating system knows enough about a horse to give them an official rating, which in turn determines how much weight they carry in future contests.

For example, if one horse is rated 100, and the other is rated 95, the horse rated five points more than the other will essentially carry an additional 5lb in weight. Should the horse carrying 5lb extra continue to beat horses rated inferior to them or amongst those with similar figures, that horse would rise up the class system to tackle harder races against better individuals.

The aim of a handicap race is to give every horse an equal chance of winning, and the plan is to have every horse crossing the finish line at the same time - which is surprisingly yet to happen!
