Dear Friends Of Punchestown,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Punchestown for Day One of our ever-popular Summer in Town weekend
As we gather for this todays’ racing, we look forward to bringing the 2025/2026 season to a memorable close with two days of quality racing, entertainment and summer socialising. Summer in Town has become a firm favourite on the Punchestown calendar and it is wonderful to see racegoers, owners, trainers, jockeys and supporters joining us once again. This evening, we are delighted to welcome and thank Ladbrokes for their generous support as sponsors of all but one race on the card. Their continued commitment to Punchestown and Irish racing is greatly appreciated and plays an important role in maintaining the high standard of racing we are proud to offer
We are also pleased to welcome Castlestone Holiday Homes as sponsors of our concluding race this evening. This sponsorship marks a special first anniversary for the local business, whose relationship with Punchestown began when they provided accommodation solutions for trainers, stable staff and yard teams attending the 2025 Punchestown Festival It is always rewarding to see local businesses grow and prosper and we are delighted to support and celebrate their continued success.
We encourage you to make the most of all the facilities and hospitality available around the racecourse and to enjoy what promises to be a competitive and entertaining evening of racing.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, Sunday 7 June, we are delighted to welcome K-Mech Mechanical as title sponsors of the day’s eight-race card. With the first race scheduled for 1.22pm, we look forward to another enjoyable afternoon of racing as we bring the season to its conclusion.
Kindest Regards,
Conor O’Neill CEO, Punchestown

SWITCH FROM DIESEL transitioned from bumpers only last November and scored smartly over course and distance last month. Grade 1-placed in bumpers, the selection could be hard to beat once again. Magico scored on his hurdles debut last month and he too looks to be a smart prospect. Rated 92 on the Flat last year, his jumping technique should improve with experience and his rider claims 7lb, but faces a stiff task against the selection. Playtime is dependable but might struggle to win in this company.

A dual hurdles winner and rated 123 in that sphere last year, STUNTMAN STEVE was well held behind smart types in his initial chase runs but hasn’t enjoyed much luck over fences since. He was pulled up with a broken stirrup leather at Tramore eight days ago and now competes from a light weight, under a 7lb claimer. Indiana Jones hasn’t won since March 2023 but ran well in smart handicaps at Aintree and here recently Birdie Or Best has claims on her best form, while Park That is also noted.

Ground-versatile and a previous course winner, the selection wasn’t beaten far over hurdles at Cheltenham in March and chased home a capable type at Killarney last month. He can put his experience to good use under a 7lb claimer Chase debutante Fillyoureye is similarly ridden by a 7lb claimer and stays well while Kainsbourg also debuts over fences and was Grade 2-placed over hurdles last October Another chasing debutante Quantum Quest was well held at Aintree in April but stays well and has point-to-pointing experience.

Punchestown is the only racecourse in Ireland that hosts cross-country racing over 35 obstacles styled on natural countryside fences, banks and hedges.
At every race meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the wellbeing of all horses.
In total two veterinarians are in attendance at today’s meeting.
The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary.
The horses’ welfare is our priority

A point-to-point winner, the selection’s initial hurdles and chase form was ordinary but has run well twice this year and having scored at Kilbeggan, races off a chase rating which is 2lb below his hurdles mark. A Year Older was penalised 4lb for falling, having travelled well, at the fourth-last fence at Down Royal in April and scored subsequently at Limerick last month. EASTER BONNET may be able to make a winning start over jumps. Willie Mullins’ charge was pulled up in a Listed bumper at Navan when last seen in November, reportedly losing her action then. She had won impressively at this venue on her debut previously and looks to have a fair level of ability. This isn’t the strongest maiden hurdle Cailin Deas ran well on her return at Downpatrick when third to Mr Master Mac and could improve from that outing. She was a touch keen then and is fitted with a hood now. Firebrand has been placed five times over hurdles and should play a part on his return to action.

LIVIO should improve a bit from his initial outing over timber at Killarney last month. The French import, a Grade 3 bumper winner in his native land, kept on to finish third to Hi Ho Idaho on his Irish debut. With that run under his belt he can strike now. Sestini looks like an obvious danger after a solid run to finish third on his hurdling debut at Cork last month. Lizzie Twigg won a bumper on her debut at Down Royal and wasn’t disgraced in a Listed contest at Fairyhouse subsequently She could be a player now on her jumping bow.
Leading course trainer (20-25): W P Mullins (185 wins from 795 runners, 23%) runs LIVIO
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): G Elliott (8 wins from 60 runners, 13%) runs LIZZIE TWIGG
Fancy That: W P Mullins won this race in 2019, 2022, 2024 and 2025. The stable runs LIVIO today. Longest Traveller: UNDERTHEINFLUENCE trained by N Kelly, Derry, 170 miles.

ANGELO DUNDEE needs to sharpen up on his jumping from his initial effort at Down Royal but looks up to landing a race of this standard. The Authorized gelding finished third to Berto Ramirez on his first outing for Henry de Bromhead He won a bumper on his debut here back in April 2023 and should be suited by going a bit further now. Petit Secret was disappointing on his last outing at Fairyhouse in early April, fading after a bad mistake. He would be a big player on his previous placed effort at Leopardstown. Going back over jumps now may help Brother Walfrid, who was beaten at a short price in a bumper last time

You will occasionally see letters after a horses form figures in the racecard today - for example 45-2301 CD BF But what do these actually mean and why are they shown?
C Stands for course and simply means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown. You may have heard the phrase ‘Horses for courses ’ which implies that some horses perform better at certain racecourses. Therefore, previous winning form here at Punchestown may suggest that it will run well again today.
D Stands for distance and means that the horse has won over the same distance it is racing over today but at another racecourse So today’s distance should suit.
CD Stands for course and distance so not only has the horse previously won here at Punchestown but when doing so it also won over the same distance that it is racing over today. So, winning form over today’s course and distance may indicate that another strong performance is on the cards.
C D If there is gap between the C and the D it means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown and also won over the same distance that it is racing over today but at another racecourse So today’s distance should suit and the horse will also be suited by the course
BF Stands for Beaten Favourite. Advises that a horse was well fancied in the past but despite being sent off favourite it failed to win This can be off-putting to some punters especially if it is sent off favourite again today
So now when you run through today’s runners and riders, you can identify which horses run well here at Punchestown and those which will be well suited by the distance that they are racing over.

RACE RESULTS
Have you ever wondered why some horses wear headgear? Is it just a fashion accessory? Most definitely not. Headgear is a useful tool in the armoury of a trainer and is used to aid a horse’s performance on the track.
BLINKERS - Blinkers can be used to aid concentration. A half cup placed behind the horses eye helps them to keep looking forwards to focus on the job at hand - winning their race!
VISORS - Very similar to blinkers but with a slit cut in the side of the cup, which enables a horse to see the other runners around them.
CHEEKPIECES - Sheepskin Cheekpieces work on a similar principle to Blinkers and Visors but allow a slightly better range of vision.
EYE SHIELDS - Eye Shields are a fine mesh that covers the entire eye but they do allow full vision.
HOOD - Covering the ears and head, a hood is used for horses that are easily spooked by crowds or noises, rather than for concentration purposes.
NOSEBAND - A Noseband is designed to restrict the field of vision and encourage a horse to focus on the race, usually lowering their head in the process.
TONGUE STRAP - Horses do not breathe through their mouth but even so, it can hamper speed and performance to have their mouth open or tongue flopping about. A tongue strap prevents this by keeping the tongue in place for the duration of the race.
