WELCOME
WELCOME TO
Dear Friends Of Punchestown,
On behalf of the Kildare Hunt Club and the entire team here at Punchestown Racecourse I’m delighted to welcome you to the final day of the 2025 Punchestown Festival, SBK Festival Saturday.
The Punchestown Festival is a massive event that ignites local pride and captures national attention. A celebration over 5 days for the culmination of the jumps season boasting 12 Grade 1 races and over €3.5 million in prizemoney drawing champions, dreamers, and crowds from far and wide With a reputation which brings both responsibility and pressure to deliver perfect jumping ground. It is Ireland’s largest corporate hospitality event, where top class racing meets the glamour of fashion, the joy of entertainment, and creates special moments and memories that last a lifetime. But beyond the numbers, the prestige, and the spectacle - Punchestown is more than that, Punchestown is special, Punchestown is tradition.
As we embark on a major milestone in our history, the 175th anniversary of Punchestown, our focus in 2025 has been to instil that tradition so that the business continues to evolve and grow so that we safeguard Punchestown for the generations to come This would simply not be possible without the support of each and every one of you here today and the integral part you play in the tradition of Punchestown and for that I want to say Thank You.
The €125,000 Grade 1 SBK Irish EBF Champion Mares Hurdle is the highlight on Festival Saturday. I would like to welcome all the team from SBK and acknowledge and thank them and indeed all of our partners today and throughout the week for their continued support. Without their involvement it wouldn’t be possible for us to attract and showcase the very best jump racing stars on both sides of the Irish Sea, for the grand finale of the Irish jump racing season.
The Punchestown Festival takes an enormous amount of planning and hard work from countless numbers of people The heroes of Punchestown are the people who make it. That includes sponsors, customers, hospitality staff, contractors, trainers, jockeys, stable staff, volunteers, owners, medical staff, I.H.R.B, H.R.I, Naas Gardaí and too many more to mention. Punchestown is famous for its atmosphere and without people you have no atmosphere so a massive thank you must go to you all from everyone here at the home of Irish jump racing.
I would also like to give a very special mention to my own team here in Punchestown who are fantastic They take it personally and endeavour to ensure your experience at Punchestown exceeds all expectations. I want to thank each of you for your endless hours of hard work, dedication, commitment and support behind the scenes. You played a hugely significant role in staging yet another very memorable Punchestown Festival which you can all be very proud of and ensured that we all had a week to savour Thank You and Well Done
We race again in Punchestown on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June for Summer in Town but until then I wish you a fabulous day and a very safe journey home.
Kindest Regards

RACE SUMMARY
CHEMICAL ENERGY held every chance approaching the last in Cheltenham's cross-country event before fading on the run-in. That was his best effort since his third in the Munster National at Limerick and the return to 3m, combined with drying ground, is fancied to help the nine-year-old back to winning ways. Conflated and Coko Beach were both pulled up in the Grand National, but they will find this a much easier assignment and help give Gordon Elliott a particularly strong hand, especially if those who contested the La Touche on Thursday aren't turned out quickly. WIN: CHEMICAL ENERGY

RACE SUMMARY
HASTHING has failed to complete in his last two starts but has had a productive season. He has been gradually upped in distance this term and while yet to win beyond 2m6f, was running well before falling in Cheltenham's National Hunt Chase in March. He held just place-prospects then but the winner notably landed the subsequent Irish National Answer To Kayf was well beaten at Cheltenham and while his form is mostly on testing ground, finished second on good-to-yielding at last year's festival and today's distance could bring about plenty of improvement. Herakles Westwood finished seventh behind the selection at Cheltenham and stays well, while The Short Go likes good ground but will need to jump better than he did in the Ultima. SBK IRISH EBF MARES CHAMPION HURDLE
FACTS & STATS
OVERVIEW
First run in 2004, the SBK Irish EBF Mares Champion Hurdle is one of two Grade 1s on the final day of the meeting. Initially the race was a Listed contest before rising through the ranks to achieve Grade 1 status in 2013, reflecting its growing prestige Willie Mullins stands out with a remarkable 10 victories, training champions such as Annie Power (2014, 2015) and Benie Des Dieux (2018, 2019) both winning back-to-back renewals. Most recently, Lossiemouth landed the spoils under Paul Townend to record his sixth win in this race

Lossiemouth added the Mares Champion Hurdle to her impressive record, following her victory in the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham earlier in the season. Settling in second place behind Telmesomethinggirl, who initially set a strong pace, Lossiemouth made her move in the home straight, overtaking the leader and extending her advantage to win decisively Her stablemates Gala Marceau and Ashroe Diamond attempted to challenge but were well beaten, finishing second and third respectively
THIS YEAR’S PREVIEW
Brighterdaysahead currently heads the betting and has a much easier assignment here than the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. She has been beat twice when travelling abroad so back on home soil, she could prove tough to beat. Course and distance winner Jade De Grugy bolted up around here in February before just finding last year’s winner Lossiemouth too good last time out, albeit finishing ahead of July Flower Willie Mullins also saddles Gala Marceau in the same silks for Kenneth Alexander, while his quartet is completed by Lot Of Joy The field of six is completed by the British-raider Wyenot PRIZE MONEY

Gordon Elliott's mare routed her rivals at Leopardstown last Christmas and anything near that kind of performance will suffice Jade De Grugy was no match for Lossiemouth in the Mares' Hurdle but may be the one to take advantage if the selection doesn't run to her best. July Flower ran satisfactorily at Cheltenham and is better judged on her Leopardstown success at Christmas.

RACE SUMMARY
The lightly-raced MAJESTIC FORCE seems fairly treated on handicap chase debut. A staying chaser-type, she was beaten just a half-length by Grade 1 winner Spindleberry last December before scoring quite readily at Wexford in March and further improvement appears likely Stablemate Amirite notably finished ahead of Wednesday's winner James Du Berlais in the Topham at Aintree and being well suited by good ground, should also be competitive. Canal End is 9lb higher than when winning at Navan but would prefer easier ground, while Battle It Out is 7lb higher than at Fairyhouse, despite a bad mistake at the final fence.

ABBREVIATIONS EXPLAINED
You will occasionally see letters after a horses form figures in the racecard today - for example 45-2301 CD BF. But what do these actually mean and why are they shown?
C Stands for course and simply means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown. You may have heard the phrase ‘Horses for courses ’ which implies that some horses perform better at certain racecourses. Therefore, previous winning form here at Punchestown may suggest that it will run well again today.
D Stands for distance and means that the horse has won over the same distance it is racing over today but at another racecourse. So today’s distance should suit.
CD Stands for course and distance so not only has the horse previously won here at Punchestown but when doing so it also won over the same distance that it is racing over today. So, winning form over today’s course and distance may indicate that another strong performance is on the cards.
C D If there is gap between the C and the D it means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown and also won over the same distance that it is racing over today but at another racecourse So today’s distance should suit and the horse will also be suited by the course
BF Stands for Beaten Favourite. Advises that a horse was well fancied in the past but despite being sent off favourite it failed to win This can be off-putting to some punters especially if it is sent off favourite again today.
So now when you run through today’s runners and riders, you can identify which horses run well here at Punchestown and those which will be well suited by the distance that they are racing over.

RACE SUMMARY
There didn't look to be any fluke about the way that PONIROS won the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham and the Golden Horn gelding appears to have a serious engine He stayed on powerfully up the hill to prevail by a neck from Lulamba, making a stunning start over hurdles. He can only improve from that experience and is taken to confirm the form. Lulamba was making his fourth start over jumps at Cheltenham and did little wrong. He met some traffic after the secondlast, but it didn't look to have any bearing on the result. Murcia was impressive when winning the Grade 1 at Aintree and that was an improved effort. She also has to enter calculations. WIN: PONIROS EACH-WAY: LULAMBA

BETTING EXPLAINED
The first thing to consider is which type of bet you wish to place. The most common is a win bet, where if your selection wins, you win. It is a no nonsense, on the nose bet and if you are lucky enough to pick a big-priced winner, you will receive a nice return. For example, place €5 to win on a 10-1 shot and you will receive €55 back, €50 winnings plus your €5 stake.
Another common bet is each-way. This is effectively two bets in one One bet is on your selection to win and the other is on it to place. Depending on the type of race and how many runners are in the race will determine how many places are offered The industry standard bookmaker place terms are as follows:

RACE SUMMARY
HEY SUNSHINE is interesting here back in a handicap Testing conditions wouldn't have suited when she was pitched into Grade 1 company at Fairyhouse last time and she remains unexposed The Shantou mare had rattled off a hat-trick on better ground previously and could still have a bit up her sleeve off a mark of 130. Aintree winner Wellington Arch looks a leading contender He held off Kopeck De Mee in a good finish in Liverpool and, despite a 7lb rise, should still be competitive. Impose Toi, who was fourth in that Aintree race, is another to consider on the revised terms.

RACE SUMMARY
Connections have had to be patient with QUANTUM BOY, who appears for Willie Mullins now having been a very impressive point-to-point winner back in November 2023. The Diamond Boy gelding was snapped up by JP McManus after his 40-length win at Damma House and is a fascinating runner on his racecourse bow. English point-to-point winner Panjandrum makes his first start for Gordon Elliott and Gigginstown. He cost £95,000 after scoring at Chaddesley Corbett in December Lucinda Russell introduces an interesting newcomer in Biglesisback. The Walk In The Park mare carries the colours of Kenny Alexander and is a half-sister to his Cheltenham winner Doddiethegreat. WIN: QUANTUM BOY EACH-WAY: PANJANDRUM

RACE SUMMARY
JUNGLE COVE has run in a few similar events and sets the standard with his Flat mark of 84 He was last seen in winning form at Laytown last September and was second in this a couple of years ago. Dark Note is a solid performer and looks nicely weighted Henry de Bromhead won this last year with Somptueux and Chutzpal looks like another for the shortlist, despite having to give all of his rivals weight.
