WELCOME
WELCOME TO
Dear Friends Of Punchestown,
On behalf of the Kildare Hunt Club and the entire team here at Punchestown Racecourse I’m delighted to welcome you to Boodles Champion Hurdle Day on the penultimate day of the 2025 Punchestown Festival
The Punchestown Festival is a massive event that ignites local pride and captures national attention. A celebration over 5 days for the culmination of the jumps season boasting 12 Grade 1 races and over €3.5 million in prizemoney drawing champions, dreamers, and crowds from far and wide. With a reputation which brings both responsibility and pressure to deliver perfect jumping ground It is Ireland’s largest corporate hospitality event, where top class racing meets the glamour of fashion, the joy of entertainment, and creates special moments and memories that last a lifetime. But beyond the numbers, the prestige, and the spectacle - Punchestown is more than that, Punchestown is special, Punchestown is tradition.
As we embark on a major milestone in our history, the 175th anniversary of Punchestown, our focus in 2025 has been to instil that tradition so that the business continues to evolve and grow so that we safeguard Punchestown for the generations to come This would simply not be possible without the support of each and every one of you here today and the integral part you play in the tradition of Punchestown and for that I want to say Thank You.
The Grade 1 €300,000 Boodles Champion Hurdle is one of the most eagerly anticipated contests of the week. This race is renowned for its illustrious roll of honour producing timeless champions such as our most recent winner State Man, Honeysuckle, Faugheen, Hurricane Fly, Jezki, Hardy Eustace and of course the legendary Istabraq. I would like to extend a very warm Punchestown welcome to all the family and team in Boodles back to the Home of Irish Jump Racing for this fascinating spectacle I would also like to acknowledge and thank all of our partners today and indeed over the five days for their continued support. Without their involvement it wouldn’t be possible for us to attract and showcase the very best jump racing stars on both sides of the Irish Sea, for the grand finale of the Irish jump racing season.
It is not all just about the action on the racecourse today either as the social aspect of the Punchestown Festival really comes into its own. The overall winner of the Bollinger Best Dressed will be judged and announced shortly after the first race in the Bollinger Lounge and Garden located in the Style Quarter in the Southern Enclosure, so make sure to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy the colour, style and elegance that it provides.
The Punchestown Festival really is something to savour and we hope that you enjoy the action on and off the track with a host of entertainment lined up for all to enjoy. Don’t miss a moment of the magic, enjoy the Punchestown experience and hopefully you get a few winners as well!
Kindest Regards
Conor O’Neill

RACE SUMMARY
Ian McCarthy looks to have a strong hand here, saddling both FOUNTAIN HOUSE and recent Cork winner Eyes Off Annie The former is difficult to oppose having won his last three He easily accounted for Gale Force Jet, Asphalt Cowboy, Hey Sir, The Blind Piper and Man Of The House when successful in a point-to-point at this venue in February and having added two more wins since, he can uphold the form. The aforementioned Gale Force Jet represents last year’s winning connections and while he disappointed on his most recent start at Tramore, he mightn’t have been suited by the undulations of the track, and a much improved performance can be expected from him now. WIN: FOUNTAIN HOUSE EACH-WAY: EYES OFF ANNIE

RACE SUMMARY
While he just can’t get the rub of the green at Cheltenham, ITS ON THE LINE has excelled at Punchestown. Bidding for his third straight win in this contest, the Presenting eight-year-old is difficult to oppose The youngest runner in the line-up at six, Big Interest is an obvious danger A facile winner at Fairyhouse last week, the David Christie-trained bay appears to be back on song after some muddling efforts prior to that win. Third and just three-and-a-quarter lengths behind the selection at Prestbury Park, Willitgoahead is another leading contender, despite since disappointing at Aintree, while UK raider Viroflay and Cheltenham sixth Carnfunnock are others of interest. WIN: ITS ON THE LINE EACH-WAY: WILLITGOAHEAD

RACE SUMMARY
The first three home in the Cheltenham equivalent all line-up again here, with DINOBLUE taken to uphold the form. Sweeping by the re-opposing Allegorie De Vassy on the run to the last at Prestbury Park, her task was made all the easier by the fall of her stable companion. The pair have now met three times, with the selection coming out on top on each occasion thus far. Second at Cheltenham and the winner of this race last year, it’ll be interesting to see if first time cheekpieces can bring about some improvement in Brides Hill Coming from well off the pace to finish an admirable seventh in the Irish National last week, Shecouldbeanything also warrants respect. WIN: DINOBLUE EACH-WAY: BRIDES HILL

RACE SUMMARY
A fiercely competitive affair, with Willie Mullins saddling five of the 20 Lurking towards the bottom of the handicap is his LISNAGAR FORTUNE, and with Danny Mullins aboard he is of definite interest. Two from two at the venue, the Soldier Of Fortune seven-year-old makes his debut in handicap company here and could be primed for a big run. One of three Henry de Bromhead-trained representatives in the line-up, Theatre Native is sure to have plenty of supporters after her impressive Cheltenham success, while Nara, who has won two of her last three, is another leading hope A case can be made for many more, with Cleatus Poolaw and Prince Palace two others for the shortlist.

Final Demand and THE YELLOW CLAY look the two to concentrate on with preference for the latter on this surface. Final Demand was very impressive over 2m6f on soft ground at the Dublin Racing Festival but was nearly five lengths behind the selection as the pair filled the places in the 2m5f Turners Novices’ Hurdle won by The New Lion at Cheltenham. Funiculi Funicula put up a career best last time when third to Honesty Policy over 2m4f at Aintree, while Belloccio’s third to Irancy at Fairyhouse has been advertised this week. Tripoli Flyer appears best going right-handed but the Grade 2 winner needs to bounce back after disappointing at Aintree WIN: THE YELLOW CLAY EACH-WAY: FINAL DEMAND

FACTS & STATS
OVERVIEW
In contrast to the Punchestown Gold Cup and the Champion Stayers Hurdle, horses who have won the equivalent race at the Cheltenham Festival boast a fine record in the Punchestown Champion Hurdle Introduced in its current format in 1999, the first renewal was won by the legendary Istabraq, whilst the likes of Moscow Flyer, Hardy Eustace, Brave Inca, Faugheen, Honeysuckle and State Man all feature among an illustrious roll of honour
LAST YEAR’S WINNER

KEY TRENDS
€300,000
The past 7 Champion Hurdle winners to have run have won
11 of the past 13 winners were rated 164+
19 of the 25 winners had won at Punchestown previously
Landing back-to-back renewals, State man was mighty impressive yet again to record his 10th Grade 1 of his career Defeating Irish Point in similar fashion to their dual in the Champion Hurdle, he quickly showed why he was one of the best Irish-hurdles in recent decades to score a shade cosily, albeit not doing a lot in front. Willie Mullins’ pride and joy sealed the deal by two lengths to Irish Point, with the pair pulling a further 20 lengths clear of Colonel Mustard in third.
THIS YEAR’S PREVIEW
Fan favourite Constitution Hill has been given the green light by Nicky Henderson for a rematch with State Man. The pair both failed to complete in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham but we could have a rematch for the ages here. The classy mare Golden Ace is out to prove that her Champion Hurdle success was no fluke and complete a famous double, receiving 7lb for the two at the top of the market County Hurdle winner Kargese also receives the mares allowance but would need to improve to land this, along with the rank outsiders Break My Soul and Bottler’secret PRIZE MONEY

RACE SUMMARY
There are plenty of questions after some high-profile recent falls for those at the head of the market and hopefully all will get around to provide the answers CONSTITUTION HILL had a perfect record under Rules until falling on his latest two starts, although both came way too early to be definitive about his prospects and he remains the standard bearer in this division. State Man was clear when falling at the last at Cheltenham leaving the way for Golden Ace to record a shock 25/1 win. State Man showed he still has plenty to offer at this level and should make a bold bid to land this prize for a third successive year WIN:

RACE SUMMARY
ZOFFMAN is a useful Flat handicapper with a rating of 91 and has taken well to hurdles winning a 19-runner Naas maiden in good style The Noel Meade-trained gelding has scope for further improvement and should be happy on this surface. Runcok won a maiden here on heavy ground before taking on Grade 2 company last time, while Naturally Nimble is another interesting contender taking a drop in class. Khrisma, a smart bumper performer in France, performed well on her hurdling debut at Windsor and is another to note

RACE SUMMARY
KING RASKO GREY ran a cracker on debut in the valuable Goffs Bumper here 12 months ago when keeping on well into fourth behind Sermandzarak. The son of Galiway has obviously had some training issues since and it will be interesting to see how strong he is in the market The Gordon Elliott-trained pair Ma Jacks Hill and Riskaway have both shown decent placed form and are respected along with Soldier In Milan, who impressed when winning a point-to-point last year

HANDICAPS EXPLAINED
After three races on the track, the handicap rating system knows enough about a horse to give them an official rating, which in turn determines how much weight they carry in future contests.
For example, if one horse is rated 100, and the other is rated 95, the horse rated five points more than the other will essentially carry an additional 5lb in weight. Should the horse carrying 5lb extra continue to beat horses rated inferior to them or amongst those with similar figures, that horse would rise up the class system to tackle harder races against better individuals.
The aim of a handicap race is to give every horse an equal chance of winning, and the plan is to have every horse crossing the finish line at the same time - which is surprisingly yet to happen!
BETTING EXPLAINED
The first thing to consider is which type of bet you wish to place. The most common is a win bet, where if your selection wins, you win. It is a no nonsense, on the nose bet and if you are lucky enough to pick a big-priced winner, you will receive a nice return. For example, place €5 to win on a 10-1 shot and you will receive €55 back, €50 winnings plus your €5 stake.
Another common bet is each-way This is effectively two bets in one One bet is on your selection to win and the other is on it to place. Depending on the type of race and how many runners are in the race will determine how many places are offered The industry standard bookmaker place terms are as follows:
All races of less than 5 runners – win only
All races of 5-7 runners –1/4 odds a place, 1,2
All other races of more than 8 runners –1/5, 1,2,3
Handicaps of 12-15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3
Handicaps of more than 15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3,4
