The Sky Bet Moscow Flyer is a Grade 2, that is only bettered by a Grade 1, so expect to see some top notch horses lining up, and possibly some future Cheltenham and Punchestown Festival contenders. Donning the famous double green, he sat in behind Shecouldbeanything for the first few furlongs keeping close tabs on the leader. The order remained unchanged unit they began their turn for home. Paul cruised into the lead on Impaire Et Passe before being pushed out to win by a commanding 6 1/2 lengths to the Model Kingdom.

Willie Mullins has chosen to send Mystical Power and Lombron to try and win the race for a third consecutive year. Mystical Power was impressive at Galway back in July, with the second giving the form a nice boost in September.

Expect him to set the standard.

Lombron is the mount of Paul Townend, with the five-year-old also winning his sole start over hurdles. He shaped as though there’s more to come and will be thereabouts. Jigoro improved to win at Navan and is another likely angle into the race. Softer conditions would aid his cause.

RACE SUMMARY Willie Mullins has used this as a launch pad for some future stars and the Closutton maestro can enhance his record further with MYSTICAL POWER. The impeccably-bred son of Galileo and Annie Power trounced a subsequent Listed winner on his hurdling bow and would appear to be yet another exciting prospect for owner JP McManus.

HEADGEAR EXPLAINED

Have you ever wondered why some horses wear headgear?

Is it just a fashion accessory? Most definitely not. Headgear is a useful tool in the armoury of a trainer and is used to aid a horse’s performance on the track.

BLINKERS - Blinkers can be used to aid concentration. A half cup placed behind the horses eye helps them to keep looking forwards to focus on the job at hand - winning their race!

VISORS - Very similar to blinkers but with a slit cut in the side of the cup, which enables a horse to see the other runners around them.

CHEEKPIECES - Sheepskin Cheekpieces work on a similar principle to Blinkers and Visors but allow a slightly better range of vision.

EYE SHIELDS - Eye Shields are a fine mesh that covers the entire eye but they do allow full vision.

HOOD - Covering the ears and head, a hood is used for horses that are easily spooked by crowds or noises, rather than for concentration purposes.

NOSEBAND - A Noseband is designed to restrict the field of vision and encourage a horse to focus on the race, usually lowering their head in the process.

TONGUE STRAP - Horses do not breathe through their mouth but even so, it can hamper speed and performance to have their mouth open or tongue flopping about. A tongue strap prevents this by keeping the tongue in place for the duration of the race.

ABBREVIATIONS EXPLAINED You will occasionally see letters after a horses form figures in the racecard today - for example 45-2301 CD BF. But what do these actually mean and why are they shown?

C Stands for course and simply means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown. You may have heard the phrase ‘Horses for courses’ which implies that some horses perform better at certain racecourses. D Stands for distance and means that the horse has won over the same distance it is racing over today but at another racecourse. So today’s distance should suit.

CD Stands for course and distance so not only has the horse previously won here at Punchestown but when doing so it also won over the same distance that it is racing over today. So, winning form over today’s course and distance may indicate that another strong performance is on the cards.

C D If there is gap between the C and the D it means that the horse has previously won here at Punchestown and also won over the same distance that it is racing over today but at another racecourse.

BETTING EXPLAINED

The first thing to consider is which type of bet you wish to place. The most common is a win bet, where if your selection wins, you win. It is a no nonsense, on the nose bet and if you are lucky enough to pick a big-priced winner, you will receive a nice return. For example, place €5 to win on a 10-1 shot and you will receive €55 back, €50 winnings plus your €5 stake.

Another common bet is each-way. This is effectively two bets in one. One bet is on your selection to win and the other is on it to place. Depending on the type of race and how many runners are in the race will determine how many places are offered. RACE SUMMARY A comfortable winner over further here on his penultimate start, HARDWIRED was since brought down at Naas and should appreciate going back up in trip. Bonnie Kellie hasn’t shown much since scoring at Clonmel in October, but he cannot be ruled out either.
