Anna Douglas Woolley
Anna was born in Carnoustie in Scotland in 1948 but she lived here in Yorkshire for over 50 years after marrying her husband Peter who was born in Grimethorpe.
Sadly, Anna passed away on the 18 September last year and she is sorely missed by all that knew her. th
Anna enjoyed going to the races and she can list, Longchamp, The Curragh, Royal Ascot and Nad El Sheba among the many racecourses she has visited with her husband Peter
She quite enjoyed a flutter and she had her own “system” for placing a bet. Basically, her selection had to have a reference to Scotland or the name of one of her nephews or nieces in its name, failing that the jockey had to have the colour red in his racing silks.
Anna’s husband Peter is an avid racegoer and he rarely misses a fixture here at Pontefract, Peter will be selecting the best turned out horse in Anna’s race today and he will present the prize to the winning connections. Anna and Peter have also enjoyed successful racehorse ownership over the years.
It is fitting therefore that all Anna’s family and friends can come together today to honour her memory in quite a unique way.
Anna’s family and friends would like to thank Pontefract racecourse for providing this opportunity and for the kindness and consideration shown in arranging today’s sponsorship.
RIP Anna
