DECLARED RUNNERS 9

2023: SILK BIRD 3 9 4 Jack Garritty 12-1 (Jedd O’Keeffe) 10 ran

Visor worn first time by No. 9. Hood worn by No. 5. Visor worn by No. 1.

Record Time: 1min 40.6secs; Median Time: 1min 45.90secs

Probable S.P.’s: 3-1 Young Fire (FR), 4-1 Jewel Maker (IRE), 11-2 Cloudy Skye (IRE), 9-1 Risen Again (FR), Zous Juice (IRE), 12-1 Arranmore (GB), 14-1 Wait And Hope (GB), 22-1 No Saint (GB), Tasever (GB)

YOUNG FIRE looked at the top of his game when an emphatic recent scorer at Haydock and a 5lb weights rise might not prove sufficient to prevent him from following up. Risen Again appeals as a likely improver now stepping into handicap company and could emerge as the chief threat ahead of Cloudy Skye and Arranmore. Zous Juice completes the shortlist.

Barry Bradley, General Manager of Napoleons Casino Bradford will present a memento to the winning owner in the Winner’s Enclosure after this race A cash prize of £100 will be presented to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse in this race.

A few of these arrive with a question mark against them so this looks an excellent opportunity for EMBESTO to build on his excellent third in Ascot’s Summer Mile and gain a first win of 2024. Regal Reality wasn’t at his best in Epsom’s Diomed last time but is always to be respected in this grade and next on the list. Both Flight Plan and Point Lynas are capable of having a say too if bringing their A-games.

TheRoyWinstanleyMemorial–Raising EncephalitisAwarenessHandicap

This memorial race is held in memory of a much-missed Dad and is to celebrate the life of Roy Winstanley who loved to attend the races, especially at Pontefract. This was his favourite course.

Roy loved the racing, he loved to have a flutter and his knowledge of horse racing was incredible. He loved visiting “Ponte” races, especially the OAP days. He loved the atmosphere, he even enjoyed the time everyone got soaking wet through, sat in his poncho. He always had a few “wins” and this was his lucky racecourse.

Roy developed Encephalitis in July 2023; this condition is an uncommon but serious condition which affects the brain. It is life threatening, and anyone can be affected. It is not always clear what causes encephalitis. The Encephalitis Organisation offers information to raise awareness and provide support

Dad sadly passed away on the 6th of August 2023 aged 74 years young. The race today is in his honour and for us to say thank you for all you did.

This race is run in his memory, rest in peace Dad, and enjoy your day!
