PLAY SMARTER

INDIAN SOUNDS looked right back in top form when a strong-finishing third at Thirsk last time and he’s already scored here in the past, so he makes plenty of appeal provided that the pace is sound. Dandy Dinmont and Emperor Caradoc also arrive in good order and should be on the premises.

Alexia Chesters will present a memento to the winning owner in the Winner’s Enclosure after this race A cash prize of £30 will be presented to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse.

The winning horse will also receive a sack of carrots kindly donated by Poskitts Vegetable Farmers and Growers.

ARDEUR made a pleasing start in what’s likely to prove a hot race at York so, in these calmer waters, she’s well fancied to open her account provided Misty Sky doesn’t prove to be above average on debut. Lady Luzon is open to improvement but has plenty to find with the selection.

Northern Commercials will present a memento to the winning owner in the Winner’s Enclosure after this race. A cash prize of £100 will be presented to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse in this race.

The winning horse will also receive a sack of carrots kindly donated by Poskitts Vegetable Farmers and Growers.

The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £161,077 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from 23rd March to 23rd June 2024.

WELFARE OF HORSES AND RIDERS

The safety and welfare of all horses and riders involved in races at Pontefract is one of our principal priorities. A Paramedic Ambulance, a Doctor and a Vet follow the runners in every race

ESMERAY showed a good attitude to score at Lingfield a month ago and she has the scope for better still, so there’s every chance she’ll follow up at the possible expense of Charging Thunder who ran with credit at Newcastle last time. Eleanor Cross isn’t fully exposed and is another one to consider

TIGERTEN reacted well to first-time cheekpieces when a staying-on second in a much better race at Chester last time so, from a goo draw, he’s an obvious choice to go one better. Sugarpiehoneybunch also arrives in form and the longer trip should be no issue, so she’s regarded as the main threat.

Julie Camacho’s C&D scorer MILBANKE teed himself up well for this when fourth here on his return and can build on it to resume winning ways Catton Lady appeals as the main danger on the back of her good recent Redcar third, although King of Tonga is weighted to have a big say too.

Leeds - Pontefract Tanshelf

Wakefield - Monkhill (Direct 58, 29) (Direct 39, 46)

There are 3 stations in Pontefract – Monkhill, Baghill and Tanshelf. Pontefract Tanshelf is more or less opposite the entrance to the Park, whereas Monkhill and Baghill stations are more centrally located in Pontefract and are around 2 to 3 miles from the course. If you don’t fancy the walk through the Town, taxis are available at the stations.

There is a fourth station at Glasshoughton which adjoins the Xscape complex. This is a couple of miles from the Racecourse. If you have some time to kill, from near Glasshoughton Station (starting in the car park to B&Q!), there is a lovely walk through the Park to the Racecourse. It will take around 45 minutes.
