Open to further improvement now his stamina is drawn out further, he can make another bold bid, with fellow last-time-out winner Curran rating the chief threat. Aforementioned The Hun should also be in the mix.

PLAY SMARTER

CATTON LADY got firmly back on track returning from 3 months off and caught the eye to boot when staying on well for second in a C&D novice 18 days ago. That marked her down as one to be interested in now handicapping and she earns the vote, with York-scorer Invincible Molly and Validated, who looks worthy of a try at this shorter trip, heading the dangers. Salamanca Lad is another in the mix.

CREATE: Following its run on 6/9/2023 it was reported that the horse suffered interference late-on.

Probable S.P.’s: 9-2 Tobetso (IRE), 11-2 Create (IRE), 6-1 Indiana Be (GB), Eastern Charm (IRE), 7-1 Metahorse (GB), 8-1 In These Shoes (IRE), 10-1 My Honey B (GB), 11-1 Mount King (IRE), 18-1 Tasever (GB)

Having made a solid start for Declan Carroll, there’s a good chance TOBETSO will be suited by this stiffer track given how he shaped when fourth at Ayr 18 days ago and he could just be worth chancing to come out on top from a handy draw Create is less exposed than most and she’s feared on turf/handicap debut, with prolific-winner Eastern Charm another to consider in a wide-open affair TIMEFORM

PLAY SMARTER

The Family of Leslie Burton will present a memento to the winning owner in the Winner’s Enclosure after this race A cash prize of £50 will be presented to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse in this race

The winning horse will also receive a sack of carrots kindly donated by Poskitts Vegetable Farmers and Growers.

Plenty to consider in this big-field handicap, with EY UP ITS THE BOSS getting the vote after an eye-catching effort at Newmarket He was keeping on all the time there and would’ve made the frame at least with a clear passage. Down 2lb/in grade, he could be set for a big run. Romilda and Operation Gimcrack are a couple of unexposed 3-y-os who make plenty of appeal now handicapping. WELFARE OF HORSES AND RIDERS

The safety and welfare of all horses and riders involved in races at Pontefract is one of our principal priorities. A Paramedic Ambulance, a Doctor and a Vet follow the runners in every race.

GREEN SCREENS will normally be erected round any horse or rider requiring attention in order to provide privacy. This does NOT necessarily reflect on the severity of any injury.

There are 3 stations in Pontefract – Monkhill, Baghill and Tanshelf. Pontefract Tanshelf is more or less opposite the entrance to the Park, whereas Monkhill and Baghill stations are more centrally located in Pontefract and are around 2 to 3 miles from the course. If you don’t fancy the walk through the Town, taxis are available at the stations.

There is a fourth station at Glasshoughton which adjoins the Xscape complex. This is a couple of miles from the Racecourse. If you have some time to kill, from near Glasshoughton Station (starting in the car park to B&Q!), there is a lovely walk through the Park to the Racecourse. It will take around 45 minutes.
