Welcome to Pontefract Racecourse Ladies Day

Ladies Day is kindly sponsored for another year by RIU Hotels & Resorts. RIU have generously donated a week long holiday for two to the fantastic Hotel RIU Dubai to the winner of the Best Dressed Ladies Competition - there’s never been a better excuse to ‘dress to impress!’

The Best Dressed Competition will take place in the Parade Ring at 12.45pm for the Gents and 1pm for the Ladies.

Our Competition judges will be Maria, the National Business Manager for RIU Hotels & Resorts, Heart Radio’s drivetime presenter Dixie, Abbie Dewhurst who you may recognise from BBC Look North and Alexia from Pontefract Racecourse.

Once the excitement of the Best Dressed Competition is over we look forward to an afternoon of great racing. We would like to thank all our sponsors for their valued and continued support.

On behalf of the team here at Pontefract Racecoursewe hope you have a lovely afternoon.

Best Dressed Gents - 12.45pm

Before the Ladies take to the stage, we have our Best Dressed Gents Competition. The Heart Angels will be handing out numbered cards. If you receive a card you will need to gather at the Parade Ring for 12.45pm and the winner will be announced shortly after.

The winner will receive £350, the runner up will receive £100 and the second runner up £50.

Best Dressed Ladies - 1pm

Our Heart Angels will be on the look out for contestants from the moment the gates open and will be handing out 100 numbered cards to finalists.

Those chosen need to gather at the Parade Ring for 1pm for the final to commence. 20 finalists will be selected before the top 3 are announced at around 1.20pm

The runner up will receive a fabulous weekend at the RIU Plaza The Gresham in Dublin with bed & breakfast. The second runner up will receive a VIP trip to Ponte Races in the Park Suite Restaurant for 4 people (dates subject to availability).

BEST TURNED OUT WINNERS Sunday 30th July

The above list is the best turned out winners of each race from our last meeting. We appreciate all of the hardwork and effort that the Lads and Lasses put into their horses before they run here at Ponte!

This year we would like to reward the yard that receives the most best turned out awards at the end of the season with a tasty treat! Currently we have a three way tie at the top of the table between Charlie Johnston, Paul Midgley and Micky Hammond’s yard, who have each won six Best Turned Out Prizes this year!

There was a lot to like about POINT GIVEN’s debut effort at Doncaster and he should take a bit of stopping under Ryan Moore. Classy Boy also arrives on the back of a promising opening run at the same meeting at Doncaster and is second choice ahead of Ajwadi, who may benefit from the drop back to 6f

Jayne and Steve Robinson will present a memento to the winning owner in the Winner’s Enclosure after this race. A cash prize of £50 will be presented to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse in this race

The winning horse will also receive a sack of carrots kindly donated by Poskitts Vegetable Farmers and Growers.

Several course winners in the field but none are more suited to it than CARRIGILLIHY, who has a big chance of adding a sixth win here if his stamina lasts out up in trip. Giovanni Change is a big danger if he gets a soft lead and El Borracho can’t be ruled out.

Pontefract regular CORINTHIA KNIGHT lurks on a very tempting mark and is worth chancing to repeat his win in this last year having not had much go his way here the last twice. A number of other C&D winners make plenty of appeal, International Girl and Ghathanfar the pick of the older brigade ahead of 3-y-o Harry’s Halo.

Jayne and Steve Robinson will present a memento to the winning owner in the Winner’s Enclosure after this race. A cash prize of £50 will be presented to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse in this race.

The winning horse will also receive a sack of carrots kindly donated by Poskitts Vegetable Farmers and Growers.

WELFARE OF HORSES AND RIDERS

The safety and welfare of all horses and riders involved in races at Pontefract is one of our principal priorities. A Paramedic Ambulance, a Doctor and a Vet follow the runners in every race.

GREEN SCREENS will normally be erected round any horse or rider requiring attention in order to provide privacy. This does NOT necessarily reflect on the severity of any injury.

There are 3 stations in Pontefract – Monkhill, Baghill and Tanshelf. Pontefract Tanshelf is more or less opposite the entrance to the Park, whereas Monkhill and Baghill stations are more centrally located in Pontefract and are around 2 to 3 miles from the course. If you don’t fancy the walk through the Town, taxis are available at the stations.

There is a fourth station at Glasshoughton which adjoins the Xscape complex. This is a couple of miles from the Racecourse. If you have some time to kill, from near Glasshoughton Station (starting in the car park to B&Q!), there is a lovely walk through the Park to the Racecourse. It will take around 45 minutes.
