The Art of Racing Part 1

Welcome to our first award-winning Art of Racing meeting of the season. Theses racedays celebrate everything we know and love about The Sport of Kings!

We’ve appointed 6 guest tipsters to each preview one of the races this afternoon. These previews are published online and in the racecard with our tipsters invited to the winners enclosure to share their knowledge before each race.

We’ve also got 6 judges with a keen eye to pick a Best Turned Out prize in each race. Get involved and enjoy your afternoon - hopefully backing some winners!

PLAY SMARTER

Having looked an unlucky loser here in May, UNPLUGGED gained compensation with plenty to spare in a similar contest at Haydock 24 days ago and, with the drop back in trip holding no fears (previous C&D winner), he looks to hold sound claims from a 3lb higher mark. Dancing Gypsy, Lenny’s Spirit and Sameem head up the dangers.

TheFifteenthRunningof TheWayneConway MemorialHandicap Stakes

Wayne was taken away from us far too soon but his legacy remains, a husband and father loved and admired by family, friends and colleagues alike.

He showed great strength in the face of a terrible illness when previously he had been so fit and well.

Family and friends meet once a year here at Pontefract to celebrate his life at a place he loved to visit.

TROPEZ POWER’s sole success on turf was as a 2-y-o but he has been knocking on the door of late and is taken to deservedly get his head back in front. Probable S.P.’s: 10-1 Fiscal Policy (IRE), 11-1 Gannon Glory (IRE), South Dakota Sioux (IRE), Round The Island (GB), 12-1 Corinthia Knight (IRE), Atlantic Heart (IRE), Mostallim (GB), 14-1 Late Arrival (IRE), Patontheback (IRE), Wreck It Ryley (IRE), Princess Savannah (GB), 18-1 Kath’s Toyboy (GB), 20-1 Atomise (GB), Impeller (GB), 33-1 Magical Effect (IRE), 66-1 Vaunted (GB)

Plenty with chances in this big-field finale. Course specialist CORINTHIA KNIGHT ran his best race of the season when fourth back here last time and can strike for in-form Archie Watson. Last year’s winner Late Arrival had an excuse last time and had been in form prior to that so he’s second choice. Kath’s Toyboy, South Dakota Sioux and Fiscal Policy are others with plenty to recommend them.

TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.CORINTHIA KNIGHT (IRE) 2.LATE ARRIVAL (IRE) 3.KATH’S TOYBOY

Northern Commercials will present a memento to the winning owner in the Winner’s Enclosure after this race A cash prize of £100 will be presented to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse in this race.

An Art Of Racing Judge will present a cash prize of £20 to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse in this race

The winning horse will also receive a sack of carrots kindly donated by Poskitts Vegetable Farmers and Growers.

BEST TURNED OUT WINNERS

Sunday 25th June

The above list is the best turned out winners of each race from our last meeting. We appreciate all of the hardwork and effort that the Lads and Lasses put into their horses before they run here at Ponte!

This year we would like to reward the yard that receives the most best turned out awards at the end of the season with a tasty treat! Currently joint top of the table are Paul Midgley & Roger Fell’s yards, who have both won four Best Turned Out Prizes this year!

Thank

There are 3 stations in Pontefract – Monkhill, Baghill and Tanshelf. Pontefract Tanshelf is more or less opposite the entrance to the Park, whereas Monkhill and Baghill stations are more centrally located in Pontefract and are around 2 to 3 miles from the course. If you don’t fancy the walk through the Town, taxis are available at the stations.

There is a fourth station at Glasshoughton which adjoins the Xscape complex. This is a couple of miles from the Racecourse. If you have some time to kill, from near Glasshoughton Station (starting in the car park to B&Q!), there is a lovely walk through the Park to the Racecourse. It will take around 45 minutes.
