PLAY SMARTER

A case can be made for a few of these so at the likely odds it is worth siding with George Boughey’s Mehmas gelding NINE SIX FIVE, who looked badly in need of the experience when a recent debut Catterick fourth and could take a big step forward here for a yard among the winners. Reidh rates the pick on his juvenile form and can have a big say if fully tuned up for his return, while Carlisle-third Farhhfromforgotten and newcomer Songwriter are two more who need considering.

Instructors and Learners from the National Horseracing College will present a memento to the winning owner in the Winner’s Enclosure after this race A cash prize of £40 will be presented to the stable employee in charge of the best turned out horse in this race.

The winning horse will also receive a sack of carrots kindly donated by Poskitts Vegetable Farmers and Growers

There are 3 stations in Pontefract – Monkhill, Baghill and Tanshelf. Pontefract Tanshelf is more or less opposite the entrance to the Park, whereas Monkhill and Baghill stations are more centrally located in Pontefract and are around 2 to 3 miles from the course. If you don’t fancy the walk through the Town, taxis are available at the stations.

There is a fourth station at Glasshoughton which adjoins the Xscape complex. This is a couple of miles from the Racecourse. If you have some time to kill, from near Glasshoughton Station (starting in the car park to B&Q!), there is a lovely walk through the Park to the Racecourse. It will take around 45 minutes.
