WE’RENOTREALLYHERE has had plenty of chances already but ran up to his best when runner-up over further at Wolverhampton 7 days ago and he may well be up to putting his experience to good use and coming out on top. Nightout has similarly displayed fair form to date and is a live threat, whilst market support for newcomers Taj Neom or Captain Dandy would need to be viewed positively.

THE TIM POLLITT ‘SDS IS GOAT’ MEMORIAL NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5)
Tim’s love of horseracing stemmed from his dad, Walter, who was in the family bookmaking business in Wigan. Walter ran the Scot Lane branch in Aspull Tim’s mum Irene can remember Tim’s first racecourse visit to the Ebor meeting at York in the mid 70s when as a young boy he cheered Pat Eddery into the winners enclosure.
Tim visited many courses in later years but Pontefract was definitely his favourite. Tim worked in the printing business and a day or two at Ponty every season was the staple diet for both business and pleasure
Regular visitors to Ponty will be well aware of the legend that is SDS, SilvestreDeSousa.TheBrazilianborn,3timechampionjockey,rodethecourse better than any rider over the last decade or so. Tim had a canny knack for latching onto new, young, improving riders and SDS was the best of the lot in recent years for his bank balance.
Almost 9 years to the day SDS rode a 4-timer at the course which many racegoers here today I am sure remember. Tim never forgot it and dined out many times on his winning multiple from that memorable day. Tim was on a golf break in Scotland and had placed his bet before the round and as he always did watched the races on catch-up later that evening, not knowing the results. We all watched as Tim’s face got redder and redder as SDS booted home winner after winner. As we fired up the website to check the returns Tim uttered the phrase every punter loves to hear “Jeez, where’s the decimal point”.
Incorporating SDS into the title of Tim’s race today was a no-brainer and his wife Cath along with daughters Meghan and Kitty are here with a host of family and friends to celebrate his memory
Tim lost his 18 month battle with cancer on 19th October 2021. He was 53 years old.

Mr Orange
Mr Orange on the gallops x
Mr Orange was a familiar face here at Pontefract Racecourse, having run here 39 times from just 74 starts. This means over half of the races he has ever run were here at Ponte, so I’m sure we are one of his favourite tracks!
He was also no stranger to the Winners Enclosure having won an impressive 7 times at Ponte. You would have seen Mr Orange sprinting home over 6 furlongs, and more often than not he was paired with jockey Graham Lee. The duo won together 4 times.
Throughout his career Mr Orange has amassed £74,280 in prize money and as much as he loves Ponte, he also ran some big races at York and Ascot!
When at home he loves nothing more than a good roll in the paddock and taking in the stunning views of North Yorkshire.

Round The Island, or Jenson as he is known to his friends, is a familiar face at Pontefract Racecourse, having won here an impressive 6 times out of 10 career wins. More than half of Jenson’s wins were over 6 furlongs here at Ponte, so it’s fair to say he loves an uphill finish!
He has run 81 times to date including 24 at Ponte. You’re likely to see him paired with Phil Dennis in his races and, if they’re in the centre of the pack when they turn into the home straight, watch out for his power packed finish as he approaches the winning post.
When at home he loves nothing more than to be out on the gallops with Amanda, who has ridden him since he was a yearling. Although be careful as he can be cheeky and try to take control so he can go that bit faster Jenson clearly has a need for speed!
Don’t visit him empty handed though, make sure to take him a polo, they’re his favourite!

POKER FACE has impressed in landing each of his 2 starts in maiden/novice company over 1m in recent weeks, and with the prospect of plenty more to come now handicapping up in trip, he can make a bold bid to complete the hat-trick. Reach looks a very shrewd purchase judged on her facile maiden victory over further here 2 weeks ago and rates the lead threat, with Regal Mirage and Jean Baptiste making each-way appeal.

RICH RHYTHM made a promising start to life in handicaps when fourth at Kempton despite not enjoying the rub of the green and Ralph Beckett’s lightly-raced 3-y-o can go in off an unchanged mark here. Rhythm rates an obvious threat able to race off the same mark as when scoring recently at Newcastle while C&D scorers Run This Way and Round The Island (also landed this event in 2020) need shortlisting too.

This is wide open however, with low-mileage 3-y-o Close Quarters and Nearly A Gonna feared. Redrosezorro also makes each-way appeal at likely longer odds.
