Day Out

Hi everyone!

Round The Island, or Jenson as he is known to his friends, is a familiar face at Pontefract Racecourse, having won here an impressive 7 times out of 11 career wins. More than half of Jenson’s wins were over 6 furlongs here at Ponte, so it’s fair to say he loves an uphill finish!

He has run 81 times to date including 24 at Ponte. You’re likely to see him paired with Phil Dennis in his races and, if they’re in the centre of the pack when they turn into the home straight, watch out for his power packed finish as he approaches the winning post.

When at home he loves nothing more than to be out on the gallops with Amanda, who has ridden him since he was a yearling. Although be careful as he can be cheeky and try to take control so he can go that bit faster - Jenson clearly has a need for speed!

Don’t visit him empty handed though, make sure to take him a polo, they’re his favourite!

Mr Orange

Mr Orange on the gallops x

Mr Orange was a familiar face here at Pontefract Racecourse, having run here 39 times from just 74 starts. This means over half of the races he has ever run were here at Ponte, so I’m sure we are one of his favourite tracks!

He was also no stranger to the Winners Enclosure having won an impressive 7 times at Ponte. You would have seen Mr Orange sprinting home over 6 furlongs, and more often than not he was paired with jockey Graham Lee. The duo won together 4 times.

Throughout his career Mr Orange has amassed £74,280 in prize money and as much as he loves Ponte, he also ran some big races at York and Ascot!

When at home he loves nothing more than a good roll in the paddock and taking in the stunning views of North Yorkshire.

Orangetaking in the views!

GAINSBOURG is up 6lb for his decisive C&D win 3 weeks ago but this is actually a weaker band of handicap, so he holds sound follow-up claims. Menelaus is probably the runner in the field with the scope to improve a fair bit so he’s a threat, with Tangled completing the shortlist in the hope a wide draw doesn’t prove to be a hindrance.

PLAY SMARTER

BEATTIE IS BACK was out with the washing in the Bronze Cup at Ayr back from a break last month but he is of strong interest with his sights lowered here. Richard Fahey’s representative improved with each of his 3 starts on the all-weather in the early part of this year and remains open to improvement. Sweet Glance put in a good shift at Catterick last time and will be a threat if responding well to the new headgear, while Magical Effect and Redrosezorro are also shortlisted.
