MANSELL MCTAGGART’S LADIES DAY SUNDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER 2026 Official race programme £4

WELCOME Mansell McTaggart’s Ladies Day Today is Mansell McTaggart’s Ladies Day which is a combination of our traditional seasonal opener with all the fun of Ladies Day that we unfortunately lost back in May due to a local case of Equine Influenza. As well as 7 fabulous races, we have best-dressed competitions for Ladies, Men and Children running throughout the afternoon with some fabulous prizes, including a £500 Holland Cooper Voucher. Alongside this we have some great entertainment with a rodeo bull and sweeper arm and then after racing please join us in the centre of the course for dancing and drinks with our resident Mint DJs. Many of you will no doubt see a few changes around the course from all the hard work put in by the team across the summer months. On the Equine front the Parade Ring has been completely re-laid, the stables have been extended to allow additional walkways, and a new stable managers’ office has been created. Our Southdown Boxes have been refurbished to an extremely high specification, and throughout the enclosures you may notice a significant number of upgrades. Our sincere thanks go to our season partners, Southern Cranes and Access Ltd, and Kalm Club for their ongoing support as we begin the 2026/27 season. This season we also welcome many new sponsors, whose branding you will see both trackside and around the Parade Ring. If the opportunity arises, please support these local companies who continue to invest in our sport. For our seven races we welcome an array of Sponsors, and I wish them all a fabulous day out. Thank you to Mansell McTaggart, Henners, Prestige Security, Friends and Family of Norman Sharpe, Only MOTs, Dominic Hill Accountants, Thorne Civil Engineers, and Tom George from Mansell McTaggart who has sponsored the last race in the name of his father. Looking ahead we have five racedays before Christmas so be sure to book early to secure our best priced tickets. The Paddock Restaurant is already sold out for 19th October and the 14th December so please continue to book early to avoid disappointment. Wishing everyone a great day’s racing and a fun after-party. Guy Chadwell CEO

RACING Jargon

Bit - A piece of metal that sits in the horse’s mouth and is attached to the bridle and reins. Blinkers - A type of headgear fitted to a horse that limits its field of vision, mainly from each side. Blinkers are designed to help horses concentrate in races. Boxed in - When a horse cannot obtain a clear run during a race due to other horses being in close proximity. Bridle - A piece of tack that fits over a horse’s head and to which the bit and reins are attached. Bumper - Also known as a National Hunt Flat race, this race has no obstacles. Used as a way to give horses race experience before tackling hurdles and fences. Chase - A race run over fences. Cheekpieces - A form of headgear which consists of pieces of sheepskin placed on either side of the bridle and performs a similar job as blinkers in helping the horse to concentrate. Clerk of the course - The person responsible for the overall management of a racecourse on a raceday. Fences - The type of obstacle jumped during a chase race. Furlong - A unit of measurement. A furlong is an eighth of a mile or a little more than 201 meters. Going - The underfoot conditions at the racecourse. Going Stick - A device used to measure the underfoot conditions at the racecourse. Handicap - A type of race in which horses carry different weights depending on their overall rating, which is determined by the handicapper. Hood - A type of headgear fitted over the horse’s head to cover its ears and muffle the noise of a raceday. Hurdles - The obstacles jumped during a hurdle race. They are smaller than fences and therefore take less jumping. Sometimes referred to as flights. Length - The length of a horse from its nose to the start of its tail, and a measurement used to describe the distances between horses at the finish line. Maiden - A horse who has yet to win a race. Neck - A measurement used to describe a winning margin in a close finish. Non-runner - A horse withdrawn from a race for which it had been declared. Novice - A race for horses who are in their first season in that code of racing. Off the bridle - A term to describe a horse not travelling well. On the bridle - A term to describe a horse travelling well. Open ditch - A fence with a ditch on the take-off side. Outsider - A horse whose chance of winning is considered unlikely. Parade ring - The area of a racecourse where horses are paraded before each race. Photo finish - A close race finish, requiring the raceday judge to consult a photo before declaring the winner. Pulled up - A horse who is brought to a halt during a race by its jockey. Pulling - A horse who is keen during a race and wants to go faster than its jockey is allowing. Pushed out - Describes a horse who has gone clear of its rivals in a race after minimal urging from its jockey. Staying on - A phrase referring to a horse who finished strongly during the closing stages. Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race. Tongue-tie - A strap used to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue getting over the bit which affects a horse’s breathing. Turn of foot - A term to describe marked acceleration during a race. Under starter’s orders - Before a race, the starter brings the field of horses into order to prepare them for the start of the race. Weighed in - Every horse in a race has to carry a certain amount of weight. To ensure it does, all jockeys must weight in/out both before and after a race. The ‘weighed in’ announcement made after the race means the result stands.

RACE 1

GALEFORCECHOPPER sprung a 150/1 surprise when a change of tactics enabled her to show significant improvement to get off the mark at Worcester and she now makes her handicap debut. An opening mark of 99 looks fair and as long as the five-year-old can back that performance up, she may prove hard to beat. Getarose finished a close third at Newton Abbot in April and is respected on her return. Siorai looks up against it. totewin: Galeforcechopper toteeachway: Getarose

RACE 2

PREMIER TENOR improved on his third at Worcester when only finding one too good over the same C&D last time and is likely to have more to offer. With normal improvement, he could prove a tough nut to crack. Raulin is a fair performer on the Flat and needs to be monitored in the betting market on his first outing over timber for the Gary & Josh Moore yard. Arcturus Flame is the pick of the remainder. totewin: Premier Tenor toteeachway: Raulin

RACE 3

PREMIER FANTASY has taken the silver medal home in each of his last two starts since undergoing a wind operation and now drops back into maiden company. The booking of Sean Bowen is noteworthy and he looks the way to go. Akrramm makes his first start for the Mickey Bowen stable and would be of interest if the market speaks in his favour. Rhythm Of Life is next best. totewin: Premier Fantasy toteeachway: Akrramm

RACE 4

A 7lb rise appeared enough to anchor Mancero’s follow-up bid at Worcester last month, although he must enter calculations in a race lacking depth. Regardless, POOROLDMACKLEY is more compelling after his staying-on fourth over 2m7f at that same venue 72 days ago and he looks worth another go over this longer trip. Jefe Triunfo arrives here in better form than most and completes the shortlist. totewin: Pooroldmackley toteeachway: Mancero

RACE 5

Having already scored five times this season, Edelak is sure to prove popular given his current vein of form. That said, the four-year-old is 8lb higher than his latest triumph in a small-field affair at Newton Abbot and preference is for Perth winner NAP HAND. Chris Gordon’s charge is dropping in class and scored with enough in hand to suggest that a 7lb rise is surmountable. Mojito Des Mottes and Eternal Angel add further spice to the mix. totewin: Nap Hand toteeachway: Edelak

RACE 6

KHALK’EAU SPIGAO sported first-time cheekpieces at Fontwell on his latest start and finished a respectable third. The winner has since boosted that form and Chris Gordon’s charge could make a bold bid with the headgear remaining in place. A Tickatickatiming continues to slip down the weights and has posted better efforts at Stratford of late, while Aggagio is not badly treated over hurdles if rediscovering his best form. totewin: Khalk’eau Spigao toteeachway: A Tickatickatiming

RACE 7

TODAY’S TOP TIPS

SHANE’S SPIRIT made an encouraging debut at Perth back in April. Not beaten far in fifth, he’s subsequently joined Mickey Bowen’s yard and the son of Getaway is taken to make a winning start for his new stable. Missy Moises shaped well before fading in the closing stages at Market Rasen on her introduction. She could have a say in proceedings and makes more appeal than Company Charge, who blotted his copybook when unseating at the start last time. totewin: Shane’s Spirit toteeachway: Missy Moises

The welfare of the sports equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of licensed trainers. The standards demanded by the BHA far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The BHA similarly licenses racecourses setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course. At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses with two vets following the horses as they race and the third being based in the stable yard.
