SUNDAY 19TH APRIL 2026
Today’s seven-race card promises a fantastic day out for all the family, with over £116,000 in prize money up for grabs. The feature contest is the BetGoodwin Sussex Stayers Hurdle, worth £65,000. In 2024, this race was won in spectacular fashion by Transmission and Joe Anderson, who famously nearly parted company before going on to win, and ultimately claim Ride of the Year. We look forward to seeing who will take home the trophy in only the second running of this exciting race.
The supporting card offers plenty more competitive action, and we extend our sincere thanks to today’s sponsors: Prestige Security, Mansell McTaggart, Weatherbys, Diane and Harry Page, Kalm Club, and of course our longstanding partners BetGoodwin and Southern Cranes.
Adding to the day’s entertainment, don’t miss our first (unofficial) race, the Charity MascotRace.Expectgloriouschaosandplentyoflaughs.Ifyou’reable,pleaseconsider donating generously to the fantastic causes represented.
There’sevenmoretoenjoyaroundtheracecourse, includingdisplaysfromlocalMorris dancers, stunning birds of prey, and garden games down by the Final Fence Marquee.
Looking ahead, our next and final fixture of the 2025/26 season is Ladies Day on Sunday 10th May. Join us as we bring the curtain down on a fantastic season. It’s the perfect occasion to dress to impress, with fabulous prizes on offer in our Best Dressed competitions. Alongside seven thrilling races, there will be plenty of family fun in the Village Enclosure. And once the racing is over, keep the energy going with après-racing celebrations courtesy of Mint DJs.

Bit - A piece of metal that sits in the horse’s mouth and is attached to the bridle and reins.
Blinkers - A type of headgear fitted to a horse that limits its field of vision, mainly from each side. Blinkers are designed to help horses concentrate in races.
Boxed in - When a horse cannot obtain a clear run during a race due to other horses being in close proximity.
Bridle - A piece of tack that fits over a horse’s head and to which the bit and reins are attached.
Bumper - Also known as a National Hunt Flat race, this race has no obstacles. Used as a way to give horses race experience before tackling hurdles and fences.
Chase - A race run over fences.
Cheekpieces - A form of headgear which consists of pieces of sheepskin placed on either side of the bridle and performs a similar job as blinkers in helping the horse to concentrate.
Clerk of the course - The person responsible for the overall management of a racecourse on a raceday.
Fences - The type of obstacle jumped during a chase race.
Furlong - A unit of measurement. A furlong is an eighth of a mile or a little more than 201 meters.
Going - The underfoot conditions at the racecourse.
Going Stick - A device used to measure the underfoot conditions at the racecourse.
Handicap - A type of race in which horses carry different weights depending on their overall rating, which is determined by the handicapper.
Hood - A type of headgear fitted over the horse’s head to cover its ears and muffle the noise of a raceday.
Hurdles - The obstacles jumped during a hurdle race. They are smaller than fences and therefore take less jumping. Sometimes referred to as flights.
Length - The length of a horse from its nose to the start of its tail, and a measurement used to describe the distances between horses at the finish line
Maiden - A horse who has yet to win a race.
Neck - A measurement used to describe a winning margin in a close finish.

Pulling - A horse who is keen during a race and wants to go faster than its jockey is allowing.
Pushed out - Describes a horse who has gone clear of its rivals in a race after minimal urging from its jockey.
Staying on - A phrase referring to a horse who finished strongly during the closing stages.
Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race.
Tongue-tie - A strap used to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue getting over the bit which affects a horse’s breathing.
Turn of foot - A term to describe marked acceleration during a race.
Under starter’s orders - Before a race, the starter brings the field of horses into order to prepare them for the start of the race.
Weighed in - Every horse in a race has to carry a certain amount of weight. To ensure it does, all jockeys must weight in/out both before and after a race. The ‘weighed in’ announcement made after the race means the result stands.
1 Having followed a breakthrough victory at Leicester with a close-up second over the extended 3m1f here, Delgany Deadline merits consideration. However, a marked drop in trip could prove his downfall, with a chance taken on ANGEL’S DREAM. Although the eight-year-old couldn’t claw back the leading pair over 2m1f here two weeks ago, this greater emphasis on stamina could be the making of him. Line Of Descent is a feasible alternative.
SELECTION: Angel’s Dream
2
Danger: Delgany Deadline
Dan Skelton appears to hold a strong hand, with the booking of brother Harry catching the eye on stable debutant Ballyeaston. However, Tristan Durrell is aiming to become champion conditional jockey and stablemate LORIKO might prove slightly stronger. The five-year-old arrives on the back of a C&D second and the introduction of cheekpieces could do the trick. Kempton runner-up Shutfrontdoor is the pick of the remainder.
SELECTION: Loriko
Danger: Ballyeaston
3 Although DOUBLE POWERFUL has endured a mixed campaign, it was only back in mid-January when he posted a cracking second in the Lanzarote at Kempton. The seven-year-old will need to put his latest eighth at that venue behind him, but he looks more than capable of scoring at this level. East India Express didn’t enjoy the best of passages when favourite for the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham and could have a say if his stamina holds out, while Top Guy continues to progress.
SELECTION: Double Powerful
4
Danger: East India Express
Having supplemented a triumph over C&D with two runner-up efforts, LUMI PLUGIN makes plenty of appeal in his current vein of form. The seven-year-old races off the same mark as his latest second at Kempton and this could prove a suitable opportunity to get back on the scoresheet. Sea Invasion arrives on the back of a respectable fifth in the Sussex National and is feared most, ahead of reopposing seventh Enjoy D’allen.
SELECTION: Lumi Plugin
Danger: Sea Invasion
5 LORD OF THE GLANCE gets a confident vote in this handicap hurdle on the back of a deserved win at Stratford. Previous form here and at Fakenham was encouraging and there could be more to come, so it’s well worth sticking with him for now. Shalfa won at this venue and heads the list of dangers from recent course second Market House.
SELECTION: Lord Of The Glance
Danger: Shalfa
6
NOTNOWLINDA is very interesting given her connections and she showed a lot more last time out at Uttoxeter when a close third. If building on that effort, she could add further prize money to the kitty of champion trainer-elect Dan Skelton. Alien Storm is a multiple course scorer and must be taken seriously, likewise the unexposed The Bellhop and Oakley’s Way.
SELECTION: Notnowlinda
Danger: Alien Storm
POSH CHICK won a point-to-point and shaped with promise on her Rules debut at Wincanton when finishing second to a potentially smart one in Lord Churchill. With improvement forthcoming, she gets the nod ahead of stable companion Steal A Glance, who is better judged on her Ludlow debut effort rather than her Wincanton no-show. Keep an eye on Cheese too.
SELECTION: Posh Chick
Danger: Steal A Glance

At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.

Northern Poet will appreciate reverting to a course at which he has performed so well in the past and the 11-year-old shoulderstop-weightinthefourthraceon today’s card, the Weatherbys nhstallions. co.ukHandicapChase.
Awinnerovercourse-and-distanceinApril 2023, he was a winner on good ground at Doncaster last March and just seven days later at Warwick. He goes well in the springanditishopedthathecanbuildon his belated reappearance at Doncaster. Trained in Findon (West Sussex) by Nick Gifford, who has saddled 42 winners at Plumptonovertheyears.
Another from the same county is Lumi Plugin, a lightly-raced seven-year-old who has won twice from four visits to Plumpton. Again, this is a track at which the training duo of Gary & Josh Moore do well, thepairsuccessfulwithbothHavaila (Sussex National) and Mint Approved on EasterMonday.
The Kayf Tara gelding has been in consistent form during the second half of his first season over fences, winning here inJanuarybeforefinishingrunner-upover today’s course-and-distance and again atKempton.
Lumi Plugin was beaten 7½ lengths on his penultimate start by Enjoy d’Allen, who was beaten in the aforementioned Sussex National just 13 days ago. On that earlier clash, Neil King’s runner would be respected but the 12-year-old needs to overcomethatrelativelyquickturnaround and the ground will be much quicker on thisoccasion.
The son of Network does, however, hail from an in-form stable – King fresh from saddling a first Grade 1 winner at Aintree –andisanotherwithgoodcourseformto hisname.
The handicap is quite tight towards the head of the weights, with just 4lb separatingthetopfour, withSeaInvasion representing Anthony Honeyball from a mark of 113. He finished in front of Enjoy d’Allen in the Sussex National recently, when responding well to pressure having initially lost his prominent position. A winner over hurdles at this track in March 2024, he twice won over today’s courseand-distancetowardsthebackendoflast season and is another who clearly goes well, bothhereandongoodground.
Besides one run at Kempton in January, theeight-year-oldhasn’tquitebeeninthe same form this season. Nevertheless, he isbackdowntohislastwinningmarkand with conditions to suit, might be capable ofreturningtoform.
Seamus Mullins’ Morfee is another with plenty of course form to his name and he won here in January 2024. He has managed just one win in 12 starts since, however, and has plenty of ground to makeupwithbothEnjoyd’AllenandLumi PluginfromtheirclashhereinFebruary.
Jamie Snowden’s Roe And Co completes the line-up and is the only runner without course-winning form to their name. The lightly-raced novice had looked most progressive during November and December – recording wins at Chepstow, Market Rasen and Leicester – and has been off the track since being pulled-up atFontwellinJanuary.Backonasounder surface and with Snowden in good form, the son of Malinas is another who could bounceback.
