Official race programme £3.00
SUNDAY 11TH MAY 2025
Official race programme £3.00
What a way to wrap up the season—with seven thrilling races, Best Dressed competitions for Ladies, Gents, and Children (with great prizes), top-notch entertainment, live music from Rok Skool and an après-racing party after racing featuring Mint DJ! In celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, we’ve also added special WWII-themed attractions, including a real Spitfire and Anderson shelters in the centre course.
Today we have 47 runners going to post with total prize money of £60,899 on offer. Our feature on the track today is the £14,000 J H Builders Joinery Handicap Steeple Chase. This year, we have 5 runners heading to post for what looks a fantastic renewal and we wish them all the best.
I would like to thank our Partners; BetGoodwin & Southern Cranes and Access Ltd for their tremendous support throughout the 2024/25 Season, along with today’s sponsors, J H Builders, Friends and Family of Julie Brown, Friends and Family of Lulu & Peter Mendoza, Friends and Family of Bill & Shirley Jarvis, The Mellett Family, and ExTech.
We would also like to thank Hockerty, Mid Sussex Golf Club, Burridge’s, Holland and Cooper, Buxted Park Hotel, Profiles Health & Beauty Salon and Washbrooks Family Farm who have kindly donated prizes for the Best Dressed Competitions. To have a chance to win these amazing prizes, please make sure you register in the centre course!
Despite the unfortunate cancellation of three racedays due to weather, the remaining 14 were a resounding success, featuring thrilling racing and dramatic finishes. Our flagship Easter Festival remained a crowd favourite, boosted by great weather, lively entertainment, and over £450,000 in prize money. We were also proud to play a key role in the 2025 Trainers’ Championship, with Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton battling it out for the title.
Across the season we have had over 600 runners with total prize money exceeding £1.1m with many different owners, trainers and jockeys all being successful and entering the hallowed winner’s enclosure.
It is a busy day, and both of our enclosures are open, with our Best Dressed Competition and Family Entertainment located in the Centre Course so all ticket types have access to these features. There is plenty going on for all the family besides the 7 fantastic races on course, so all fingers point towards an exciting day. Maps will be displayed around the racecourse detailing all our activities and make sure you stay behind for the after party, with Mint DJs spinning some of you favourite tunes.
Craig Staddon Chief Executive

Ask Peter was well held in fifth on her first start over hurdles at Fontwell in March, but could take a step forward after undergoing a wind operation. Even so, MACHETE BEACH looks the more appealing option. Jamie Snowden’s four-year-old is two from four on the Flat and was sent off favourite off a mark of 84 at Newcastle when last seen, possibly suggesting he may show a lot at home. Sean Bowen is booked for Bohemian Breeze and he has to be respected as well.
SELECTION: Machete Beach
DANGER: Ask Peter
PROPER TWELVE has made the frame on each of his last two starts in this sphere, most recently when finishing second at Bangor. The son of Presenting competes off an unchanged mark and may take full advantage. I’m Your Buckaroo finished a respectable third at Fontwell last time and should go well, while Flintara is another to watch out for.
SELECTION: Proper Twelve
DANGER: I’m Your Buckaroo
BIRDMAN BOB occupied the runer-up berth over C&D prior to being pulled up at Wincanton last time, but is easily excused for that effort after he was reported to have bled. The eight-year-old is taken to bounce back and regain the winning thread. Walkinthewoods was well beaten into fourth at Ffos Las last month, but a 2lb drop in the weights may help. McGrath From Clune can beat Clondaw Robin home for third.
SELECTION: Birdman Bob
DANGER: Walkinthewoods
Legendary Day won on the Flat at Lingfield in February and has to be of interest returning to hurdles. He can go well, but if PRINCE QUATTRO can recapture his best Irish form on his first start for James Owen, he could be the one. A winner at Limerick and Down Royal, he makes his UK debut carrying top-weight but that may not stop him. Goodwin Face is another to consider.
SELECTION: Prince Quattro
DANGER: Legendary Day
HECOULDBETHEONE may be appropriately named with two C&D wins, the latest in April off 1lb lower. The track certainly plays to his front-running style and if he can slip this field early, he could come home alone. Broderick is a model of consistency with five top three finishes in a row including a win at Newcastle, and he can mount a challenge, leaving Flimsy Nosebag as the pick for third.
SELECTION: Hecouldbetheone
DANGER: Broderick
A step up in trip enabled a career-best performance from SMUGGLERS HAVEN when regaining the winning thread over hurdles at Chepstow last month. The daughter of Elusive Pimpernel was a winner on her sole point-to-point outing and looks just the type to excel over fences. Sea Invasion also enjoyed the emphasis on stamina when landing the spoils over C&D 20 days ago and the seven-year-old is feared most, ahead of Black Gerry.
SELECTION: Smugglers Haven
DANGER: Sea Invasion
A drop in distance worked against ARFURSGAL when finishing a well-beaten third at Fontwell in March. However, Anthony Honeyball’s filly had previously posted a good second on her debut over an extended 2m at Newbury and could be worth chancing now faced with a stiffer test of stamina. It will be interesting to see how Queen’s Theatre fares in the betting after an opening third at Stratford in October last year, while I’m A Believer is an interesting newcomer. SELECTION: Arfursgal
DANGER: Queen’s Theatre

2024: EZ TIGER (IRE) 7 11 2 Bryan Carver 9-1 (Alex Hales) 12 ran Visor worn by No. 7. Hood, Tongue Strap worn by No. 6. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No. 1. Stewards Note:
GOODWIN FACE: Following its run on 6/4/2025 it was reported that the horse hung left-handed in the straight. HILL STATION: Following its run on 24/1/2025 it was reported that the horse ran too freely.
Probable S.P’s: 9-4 Prince Quattro (IRE), 4-1 Goodwin Face (FR), 9-2 Early Morning Dew (FR), 6-1 Legendary Day (GB), 10-1 Turpin Gold (GB), 14-1 Hill Station (FR), 25-1 Lusso Milan (IRE)
PRINCE QUATTRO can become yet another to benefit from the switch to James Owen. Goodwin Face is low mileage and might provide the main threat on the back of last month’s C&D third
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by:
