WELCOME Welcome to Plumpton – NEW additional January Jumps Raceday Sadly, we lost our 16th January raceday to frost but we are very pleased to have successfully secured an additional raceday today and we welcome all our patrons for what we hope will be a strong six race card. I would also like to thank all our staff who at short notice have been able to make this raceday possible. Our last fixture saw us stage our first ever Premier Raceday which was also our most valuable raceday ever worth £195k in prize money. The quality of the racing was matched by many close finishes and certainly the ride of the season in the Sussex Stayers Hurdle by Joe Anderson riding Transmission, nearly falling off, riding a circuit without stirrups and then winning the race – just goes to show anything is possible. We again hope for the same excitement today. I would like to thank our Partners; BetGoodwin, Southern Cranes and Access Ltd and Strong Flavours for their tremendous support throughout the 2023/24 Season. We wish you all have a tremendous day. We have a cracking card for punters to get their teeth into today, with 64 runners declared across 6 races worth £49,600 of prize money. Our feature on the track today is our fourth race Class 3 Plumpton Racecourse Heart of the Community Handicap Chase worth £15,650 with 9 going to post. If you are interested in dining today, we still have availability in our Paddock Restaurant. Located on the first floor of the Sussex Stand. This facility overlooks both the racecourse and the Paddock and will cost only £70 for a 3 course a la carte experience. If you want to dine in one of the best spots on the racecourse today, please make your way to the Paddock Restaurant. Our Retired Racehorse Stable has been very well received and today we are lucky to have De Barley Basket, who ran 18 times during his career winning 5 races and being placed a further 5 times. Pop down and give him a polo and a pat. Our next fixture will be Monday 29th January so if you are thinking of booking tickets or hospitality for this day make sure you visit our website or contact one of our team now. With Easter early this year, Sunday 31st March and Monday 1st April, if you are thinking of booking make sure you do this early as this is a popular racing weekend with both tickets and hospitality always in high demand. Have a great day at Plumpton, Heart Of The Community. Best wishes Craig Staddon Chief Executive

CUSTOMER INFORMATION Horse Care at Plumpton At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Use of Screens It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by: Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB

BETTING INFORMATION A bet can make an already exciting race far more thrilling. Backing your selection with cash and watching your chosen horse win is a great feeling. 1.
Pick your winner! There are many ways that you can pick your selection: - Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours or go to the parade ring and view the horses. - Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. - Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2.
Where to place your bet – In the betting ring, in front of the Grandstands, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection. – With the Tote at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse. – At the William Hill betting shop, which is identical to a high street betting shop.
3.
Place your bet Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet: – Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after the race is off . – Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings – Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards enquiry’.
If you have any queries about your bet, please speak to the bookmaker or the Betting Ring Manager.
PLACE TERMS All Racecourses enforce standard each way terms, in line with Paragraph 2.7.11 of the Terms and Conditions of Entry – Special Conditions E. These terms state that where accepting each-way bets, bookmakers will ensure the terms shall be or shall be better, i.e. more favourable to the customer, than: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) (g)
for races with fewer than 3 runners – all to win; for races with 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2; for races with 5-7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2; for races with 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3; for handicap races with 12-15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3; for handicap races with 16-21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3-4; and for handicap races with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3-4,and shall comply with clause 2.7.2 regarding the prominent display of terms.
WHAT IS RULE 4? Rule 4 is a betting industry-standard deduction that is made on a winning horse bet when there is a non-runner in a race, and you have taken a fi xed price. If there is a non runner in the race, anyone who backs a non-runner will get their stakes refunded. The Rule 4 exists to make a deduction from your bet to take into account the impact on the betting market of the non runner. The amount of the deduction varies depending on the price of the non-runner. The Rule 4 deduction is not applied to the stake, only to your winnings.

Official BHA Rating The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

RACE 1
TODAY’S TOP TIPS
VILLAINESS posted a fair second on her hurdles bow at Lingfield last month and Richard Bandey’s mare appears to have been found an excellent opportunity to open her account. By The Grace didn’t perform as expected when sent over timber at Wincanton just before Christmas, but she is capable of leaving that effort behind on the evidence of her bumper performances. Others to note are Tour Ovalie and Cheap Flights.
RACE 2
SELECTION - VILLAINESS
GORCOMBE MOONSHINE made a winning start over fences at Fontwell on Boxing Day and a 3lb rise in the handicap is unlikely to be the limit of his capabilities in this sphere. The seven-year-old likely has more to come and he shades the verdict ahead of Guillaume, who makes the long journey south after landing the spoils at Catterick last month. Donald McCain’s charge has a 5lb higher mark to contend with and he isn’t taken lightly, with Extraordinary Man unlikely to be far away either.
RACE 3
SELECTION - GORCOMBE MOONSHINE
RACE 4
Danger - Bob Bob Ricard
The combination of a 101-day break and Oscar Palmer’s useful 10lb claim saw an improved bid from FIDUX, who finished a respectable second at Doncaster in December. A 2lb rise in the ratings for Alan King’s veteran looks more than fair and compensation could be imminent. The downgraded Larry races off his last winning mark and he shouldn’t be underestimated in these calmer waters, while Lord Accord is dangerous to discount if able to dictate the pace. SELECTION - FIDUX
RACE 5
Danger - Guillaume
Although IDY WOOD was turned over at odds-on when a close-up second at Hexham in November, he likely found the testing conditions against him. Jamie Snowden’s inmate rates as the one to beat in this contest, where a return to more suitable conditions may see him regain the winning thread. Bob Bob Ricard has posted two solid efforts in defeat so far over hurdles and the six-year-old can give the selection most to think about, ahead of the lightly-raced Diplomatic Ash. SELECTION - IDY WOOD
Danger - Larry
Boxing Day scorer LANSPARK landed a competitive race for the grade at Fontwell and he may been let in lightly off only 4lb higher in the ratings here. Robbie Llewellyn’s charge boasts a C&D victory to his name and the Milan gelding ticks plenty of the right boxes. Just Sophie offered more to work with when a respectable fourth over 2m7f at Market Rasen in November and this stiffer test of stamina may draw out some more improvement, with Copshill Lad likely to give his running too. SELECTION - LANSPARK
RACE 6
Danger - By The Grace
Danger - Just Sophie
NICKELFORCE has been far from disgraced in recent defeats behind subsequent winners Top Clouds and Immortal Fame at Hereford and Doncaster respectively. Ben Case’s gelding looks sure to pick up a race sooner or later and he’s taken to repel his opponents in the finale. Handicap debutant Kauto Kawai receives a handy 15lb weight-for-age allowance and any market support would be interesting, with Birdman Bob and One Last Glance having the form to be involved too. SELECTION - NICKELFORCE
Danger - Kauto Kawai
LAST MEETING REVIEW Transmission winning the £75k Stayers Hurdle race
Gary Moore kicked off proceedings with a win, as Through The Ages justified strong market support under Caoilin Quinn. The promising four-year-old came into the race with much the best form, he jumped well throughout the contest to score by an eventual 4 3/4 lengths. A competitive Limited Handicap Chase saw Scarface get the better of his rivals for Joe Tizzard and Brendan Powell. Authorised Speed was well fancied to make amends for his untimely fall at Ascot but some suspect jumping throughout meant he couldn’t see out the race with any conviction and was forced to settle for third. Rocky My Way gave Scarface his biggest challenge and looked to be staying on well to give him most to think about up the run in however Brendan Powell had saved enough in reserve and the pair drew away jumping the last. Walks Like The Man and Classic Anthem fought out an exciting finish in our third race of the day. Anthony Charlton’s Walks Like The Man had cut out the running for most of the contest The pair drew clear of Diplomatic Ash, with Classic Anthem looking to be travelling the best of the pair. They jumped the last together but it was Walks Like The Man who kept on pulling out more to just deny Classic Anthem by a neck, in what was an excellent finish. Joe Anderson delivered one of the rides of the season to win the BetGoodwin Sussex Stayers Handicap Hurdle. At the 10th he was nearly thrown from his mount but performed a miraculous recovery to not only stay on the horse but to then go on a win the race. Our widest margin victory came in our feature race of the day, the BetGoodwin Sussex National. Dom Of Mary sat off the pace for most of the contest but scythed his way through the field to lead two out. Caoilin Quinn went further clear up the run in to give Caoilin his second win of the afternoon. Godot got up in the shadows of the post in the penultimate contest. Morfee looked to have the race won for James Best but was run down late by the game Godot for Stan Sheppard and Andy Irvine. The finale went to Rex Dingle and Chris Gordon. Alto Alto was weak in the market but the first time tongue tie and cheekpieces bought about the desired improvement to claim victory.

Plenty in with a squeak but the vote goes to MUCH TOO DEAR, who looked rusty but did enough by the end to show his ability remains at Kempton 10 weeks ago and now stepping back up in trip Laura Horsfall’s 6-y-o is worth chancing to make a winning start to life in PLAY SMARTER handicaps. Lanspark was a commanding winner at Fontwell on Boxing Day so he’s put forward as the main threat, ahead of Copshill Lad, who went close at this track in November. HORSE CARE AT PLUMPTON At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
