WELCOME
Welcome to the Easter Festival
Welcome to the Easter Festival, we are excited to see you all on what is set to be a tremendous day and weekend.
Today we have 69 runners going to post over 7 races with £117,000 of prize-money on offer. Our feature on the track today is the £50k BetGoodwin Champion Hurdle where 10 closely matched runners head to post for what looks a fantastic renewal of one of the season’s features. This is the 10th running of the race and we’ve seen winners from all over the country, with some terrific performances, notably from the three-time winner Paul Nicholls (Dormello Mo, Tommy Silver and Diego D Charmil), who has Blueking d’Oroux running this year. We are also delighted to welcome back last year’s winner Aucunrisque who has already won the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury this year, whilst Gary Moore who runs Teddy Blue remarkably is still searching for his first winner in this race. Along with Bourbali, Hystery Bere, Get Back Get Back, Glorious Zoff, Dr T J Eckleburg, Glimpse of Gold and our two Irish raiders in Effernock Fizz and Luttrell Lad, this is anyone’s race.
BetGoodwin have been a great partner this season at Plumpton, sponsoring on a variety of days including both £50,000 features over Easter (Sussex Champion Chase tomorrow) and so we thank them for the support and hope for two great renewals. Similarly, William Hill, South Downs Ciders and Strong Flavours (our catering Partners), are a big part of the day too and so we hope they and their guests have a great day.
Our Retired Racehorse Stable continues to be very popular and today we are lucky to have Ding Ding. Ding Ding ran an amazing 34 times at Plumpton, winning 6 races between the years of 2016 – 2019. Pop down and give her a polo and a pat.
It is a busy day, and both of our enclosures are open, with all of our Family Entertainment located in the Centre Course so all ticket types have access to these rides and features. We have a map detailing all our activities in the centre pages of the racecard so please take a look. There is plenty going on for all the family besides the 7 fantastic races on course and so all fingers point towards an exciting day.
Looking ahead, we still have two further racedays, Sussex Day, 23rd April as well as our Season Finale, Ladies Day on 14th May. General admission tickets start from £15 with hospitality starting from £75 and can be booked or enquired by visiting www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk
Happy Easter to you all and have a great day.
Best wishes
Craig Staddon Chief Executive

CUSTOMER INFORMATION
Horse Care at Plumpton
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Use of Screens
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by:
Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual contravening these rules will be evicted.
On-Course Bookmakers at Plumpton – Late Pay Service
If you need to claim winnings from an on-course bookmaker after a raceday, please send your ticket and covering letter to the following address:
Late Pay Department, AGT Ltd, 3a King’s Hall, St Ives Business Park, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY

Dogs are only allowed in the Picnic Enclosure and must be on a lead at all times. Please do not leave dogs unattended in your car.

Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a suffi cient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confi rmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefi xed by the letter h.
brighton mini-bus
Racegoers are advised that Plumpton Racecourse operates a return mini-bus service from Brighton Train Station on feature and Bank Holiday racedays. The silver, Chariots mini-bus will depart from the designated Coach parking area at the rear of Brighton Station 1½ hours before the scheduled off time of the first race. The return service will depart from the racecourse rear public car park half an hour after the last race. As space is limited, and to avoid disappointment, we recommend that tickets are purchased in advance from our website. Return Fare: £10

BETTING INFORMATION
A bet can make an already exciting race far more thrilling. Backing your selection with cash and watching your chosen horse win is a great feeling.
1. Pick your winner!
Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours or go to the parade ring and view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. Where to place your bet
– In the betting ring, in front of the Grandstands, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.
With the Tote at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse.
– At the William Hill betting shop, which is identical to a high street betting shop.
3. Place your bet
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet:
Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after the race is off
– Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings
Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards enquiry’. If you have any queries about your bet, please speak to the bookmaker or the Betting Ring Manager.
PLACE TERMS
All Racecourses enforce standard each way terms, in line with Paragraph 2.7.11 of the Terms and Conditions of Entry – Special Conditions E. These terms state that where accepting each-way bets, bookmakers will ensure the terms shall be or shall be better, i.e. more favourable to the customer, than:
(a) for races with fewer than 3 runners – all to win;
(b) for races with 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2;
(c) for races with 5-7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2;
(d) for races with 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3;
(e) for handicap races with 12-15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3;
(f) for handicap races with 16-21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3-4; and
(g) for handicap races with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3-4,and shall comply with clause 2.7.2 regarding the prominent display of terms.
WHAT IS RULE 4?
Rule 4 is a betting industry-standard deduction that is made on a winning horse bet when there is a non-runner in a race, and you have taken a fi xed price.
If there is a non runner in the race, anyone who backs a non-runner will get their stakes refunded. The Rule 4 exists to make a deduction from your bet to take into account the impact on the betting market of the non runner.
The amount of the deduction varies depending on the price of the non-runner. The Rule 4 deduction is not applied to the stake, only to your winnings.

LAST MEETING REVIEW
It was an emphatic start on Tuesday 21st March with short-priced favourite Lutinebella cruising to a 20-length victory over Marmalaid for trainer Fergal O’Brien and jockey Jack Hogan. The seven-year-old made all and went clear two out. She was never in any danger from the remainder of the field with Fortuitous Favour third behind the Nicky Hendersontrained Marmalaid.
Itwasamuchcloseraffairinthefollowingrace,withPaddy’sPoem beating Generous Day by three-quarters of a length for trainer Nick Gifford and jockey James Davies. The veteran 12-year-old kept on well in the closing stages to secure the honours to make it a first win of the season.
Gerico Ville justified the market support by securing success in the third race of the day. The Chris Gordon-trained seven-year-old went clear after three out but idled approaching the last. He kept on well in the closing stages and did enough for jockey Jamie Moore to fend off the danger from Flemen’s Tipple.
Seamus Mullins and Micheal Nolan teamed up to take the following race with Tommie Beau winning comfortably by five lengths. The eight-yearold went clear after three out and was eased towards the finish in an emphatic victory over Sublime Heights. The market favourite Old Painless was unable to feature after unseating rider Daryl Jacob two out.
Joint-favourite Gold Clermont stormed to victory for trainer Andy Irvine in the penultimate race of the day, winning by 10 lengths over Delgany Monarch in second. Caoilin Quinn was on board the seven-year-old and the pair went clear in the home turn and there was never any danger of the pair relinquishing their lead.
Irvine and Quinn wrapped the meeting up with a double with Brown Bullet taking the final race of the day. The eight-year-old led after three out before being challenged by Yesnosorry. She kept on well in the run-in and won going away.
Milton Harris boasts a 44% strike-rate (4-9) with his hurdlers at Plumpton this season and the Wiltshire handler has three chances today with Gavroche D’allier (1:55), Highland Frolic (3:05) and El Muchacho (4:50).
ROYAL MER shaped well for most of the race on his first run back since having a wind operation when second at Hereford last month and looks sure to make his presence felt in what looks an open contest on paper. Gary Moore runners always merit plenty of respect here and he is double handed with Abingworth and San Pedro De Senam. The latter has run with credit on both outings this year and may pose the biggest threat to the selection.
Selection - ROYAL MER Danger - San Pedro De Senam
HECTOR JAGUEN arrives here on the back of a comprehensive victory at Fontwell on Tuesday. The six-year-old has a 7lb penalty for that success and is likely to take all the beating, providing the quick turnaround doesn’t inconvenience him. Extraordinary Man is having his first run back since wind surgery and could be fairly handicapped if that aids his cause. Mordred bounced back to form when third at Southwell last time and is respected.
Selection - HECTOR JAGUEN Danger - Extraordinary Man
HIGHLAND FROLIC was thrown into a very competitive event at Musselburgh just over a fortnight ago and, despite finishing seventh on that occasion, he looks to have been found the ideal opportunity to open his account over hurdles. The Tom Lacey-trained Tune In A Box was strong in the market when fourth on debut in a bumper at Taunton and improvement is likely, while another worth consideration is Iskar D’airy, who was a creditable fourth here in February.
Selection - HIGHLAND FROLIC Danger - Tune In A Box
A convincing winner at Huntingdon last time out, course winner NORTHERN POET looks just the type to improve for stepping up in trip. A 3lb rise for that success looks manageable and he may have too much for the likes of Pawpaw, who won decisively at Hereford last month, and Hiway One O Three. The latter has done well since going over fences and is another that has potential over further.
Selection - NORTHERN POET Danger - Hiway One O Three
AUCUNRISQUE may have won this contest last year off 14lb lower, but there is every reason to suggest he can do so again if bouncing back to the form that saw him make all to claim success in the Betfair Hurdle. Chris Gordon’s charge has a terrific strike rate over the smaller obstacles, and he is narrowly preferred to recent Ascot winner Blueking D’oroux, who has a 7lb penalty to shoulder, and the capable Teddy Blue.
Selection - AUCUNRISQUE Danger - Blueking D’oroux
LOVE IS GOLDEN has taken to hurdling well and was unchallenged when making all to score by an impressive 39 lengths over an extended 2m at Newbury last month. The five-year-old must be of significant interest switching to handicapping for the first time in this sphere. He does have to shoulder top-weight, though, so El Muchacho can give him plenty to think about dropping in class from his latest run. Tightenourbelts is another to bear in mind on his handicap debut.
Selection - LOVE IS GOLDEN Danger - El Muchacho
A case can be made for several of these, but the vote goes to DOYANNIE, who was only narrowly denied over 2m at Taunton last month. Ben Godfrey negates all of the mare’s 3lb rise for that run, with his claim being the same amount, and she must command respect in first-time blinkers, having scored here on her penultimate start. The Cathal Don, who was runner-up to the selection when last seen, and Dindin rate her most serious dangers.
Selection - DOYANNIE Danger - The Cathal Don

AUCUNRISQUE gives more than a stone away to all but one of his rivals but he holds a significant class edge in this field and the nature of this tight Plumpton track should see him to good effect from the front. Blueking d’Oroux belatedly proved why he held a good reputation at Ascot last week and he’s highly respected under a penalty, whilst Luttrell Lad was an eye-catcher in the County Hurdle and should win races for the Lacey yard.
