WELCOME
Welcome to BetGoodwin Cheltenham Preview Raceday
With the biggest Jumps Festival of the year in the same week, we of course want to acknowledge this at our fixture and as such we run our traditional Cheltenham Preview in the Marquee. Hosted by Colin Brown, renowned commentator Simon Holt, Goodwin Racing’s Ben Head and top jockey’s Josh Moore and Tom Cannon giving us their opinions it should be very informative, and we hope together they can find you some Cheltenham winners! With the preview starting at 12.30, make sure you get there early!
Our day itself is kindly sponsored by one of our very loyal supporters, Julian Head from BetGoodwin, and so please do check out their website and App for some great offers on the racing bonanza week ahead! BetGoodwin are also sponsoring our two feature races of the season in the Sussex Champion Hurdle and Sussex Champion Chase too and so this turns our attention nicely to Easter (9th & 10th April) where all children’s entertainment is booked, the restaurant and boxes are close to being sold out and trainers are just starting to let us know which horses will be targeted at those big races – we can’t wait and hope to see you there! Apart from BetGoodwin, it is also great to continue to be supported by both IEP Financial and Mayo Wynne Baxter who will also be sponsoring today.
Today we have six races with the main race being the £20,000 Bet Online at BetGoodwin Handicap Hurdle. Last year the race was won by Kansas City Chief at the spritely young age of 13. Not only that, but he then remarkably went on to run at The Festival just three days later where he finished 13th behind Third Wind. Today’s renewal looks to be very competitive, and we wish all the owners, trainers and horses the very best of luck across the card.
Our Retired Racehorse Stable continues to be very popular and today we are lucky to have the well-travelled Champagne Fever who not only won the Weatherbys Champion Bumper in 2012 but also won the Supreme Novices hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2013 and amassed during his career winning and placed prize money of £345,000. Pop down and give him a polo and a pat.
It is also worth mentioning, that 25 years ago on this very day in 1998, Plumpton was purchased by both Peter Savill and Adrian Pratt and since this time they have spent in excess of £500,000 improving track maintenance and £2m in racecourse facilities. They have also continued to invest in prize money, exceeding £1.2m in 2022 and I am sure you would like to thank them for helping make Plumpton what it is today.
We hope you have a great day with us today and let’s hope we see you back here again soon, if not for our next fixture on the 21st March, then for Spring Sundays and the big fixtures we have coming up at the latter end of the season.
Best wishes
Craig Staddon Chief Executive

CUSTOMER INFORMATION
Horse Care at Plumpton
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Use of Screens
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by:
Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual contravening these rules will be evicted.
On-Course Bookmakers at Plumpton – Late Pay Service
If you need to claim winnings from an on-course bookmaker after a raceday, please send your ticket and covering letter to the following address:

Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a suffi cient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confi rmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefi xed by the letter h.
brighton mini-bus
Racegoers are advised that Plumpton Racecourse operates a return mini-bus service from Brighton Train Station on feature and Bank Holiday racedays. The silver, Chariots mini-bus will depart from the designated Coach parking area at the rear of Brighton Station 1½ hours before the scheduled off time of the first race. The return service will depart from the racecourse rear public car park half an hour after the last race. As space is limited, and to avoid disappointment, we recommend that tickets are purchased in advance from our website. Return Fare: £10

BETTING INFORMATION
A bet can make an already exciting race far more thrilling. Backing your selection with cash and watching your chosen horse win is a great feeling.
1. Pick your winner!
Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours or go to the parade ring and view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. Where to place your bet
– In the betting ring, in front of the Grandstands, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.
With the Tote at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse.
– At the William Hill betting shop, which is identical to a high street betting shop.
3. Place your bet
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet:
Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after the race is off
– Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings
Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards enquiry’. If you have any queries about your bet, please speak to the bookmaker or the Betting Ring Manager.
PLACE TERMS
All Racecourses enforce standard each way terms, in line with Paragraph 2.7.11 of the Terms and Conditions of Entry – Special Conditions E. These terms state that where accepting each-way bets, bookmakers will ensure the terms shall be or shall be better, i.e. more favourable to the customer, than:
(a) for races with fewer than 3 runners – all to win;
(b) for races with 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2;
(c) for races with 5-7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2;
(d) for races with 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3;
(e) for handicap races with 12-15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3;
(f) for handicap races with 16-21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3-4; and
(g) for handicap races with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3-4,and shall comply with clause 2.7.2 regarding the prominent display of terms.
WHAT IS RULE 4?
Rule 4 is a betting industry-standard deduction that is made on a winning horse bet when there is a non-runner in a race, and you have taken a fi xed price.
If there is a non runner in the race, anyone who backs a non-runner will get their stakes refunded. The Rule 4 exists to make a deduction from your bet to take into account the impact on the betting market of the non runner.
The amount of the deduction varies depending on the price of the non-runner. The Rule 4 deduction is not applied to the stake, only to your winnings.

LAST MEETING REVIEW
Suzy Smith and Charlie Hammond kicked the meeting off in style when they teamed up with Tapley to take the opener. The six-year-old didn’t have things all his way on the front end but despite not being fluent at the last, he battled back gamely to win from a closing Tenfold. Anthony Honeyball has been in flying form of late and his runner Doyannie never looked like getting beat under a calm Rex Dingle. The nine-year-old sat in a handy position behind the leaders and jumping the last Rex hadn’t moved a muscle. Once jumping the last she was pushed out to the line to win readily.
Hilnamix took our third under a typical David Bass ride. There are few better jockeys on a prominent runner, and he is a master at getting a horse to jump. Lawney Hill doesn’t have many horses in training, so it was great to see the family get a winner at Plumpton.
Our feature race of the day was a stamina sapping extended three-mile chase for amateur jockeys. Toby Lawes Sublime Heights took the spoils under the very talented Miss Gina Andrews. The seven-year-old looked like he might face a bit of a challenge at the top of the straight but quickly put the race to bed jumping the last and could be called the winner a long way from home.
Harry Fry got off the mark in our penultimate race. Last Of A legend and Fortuna Ligna fought out the most thrilling finish of the day but in the end Ben Bromley just prevailed on Last Of A Legend. The two pulled a long way clear of the third and are clearly two nice types moving forward. Our finale was taken by Nigel Hawke and David Noonan. Punters would have headed home happy after he obliged at odds of 100/30 and it rounded off what was an excellent day of racing.
Nigel Hawke boasts a +£57.83 level stakes profit with his runners at this venue and Inferno Sacree is his sole runner on today’s card in the 4.45 contest.
Goodwin Racing steps up in trip following a comfortable success over an extended 2m1f at Fontwell last month and must enter calculations, especially as Freddie Gordon negates all of the gelding’s penalty for that success with his claim. However, HERMES DU GOUET bolted up over an extended 2m at Exeter in January and could prove tough to pass if anywhere near that form. Ah Whisht is another to bear in mind.
WIN: HERMES DU GOUET; DANGER: Goodwin Racing
A drop in trip looks set to suit BOLSOVER BILL, who arrives following a runner-up effort over an extended 2m5f at Fontwell last month. He is now rated 1lb lower for that run and should not be taken lightly. Who Is That was a game winner over an extended 2m4f at Southwell last time and is feared most, while Hector Jaguen also merits consideration.
WIN: BOLSOVER BILL; DANGER: Who Is That
Royal Sam has filled the runner-up spot on his last two outings and the fact he retains the mark from his most recent run must make him of interest. However, it could pay to side with EVERYTHING’SONTICK, who makes his return after a long layoff. He was last seen finishing a decent third over 2m3f at Warwick in February last year and should give a good account on his handicap debut. Conkwell Legend also warrants respect.
WIN: EVERYTHING’SONTICK; DANGER: Royal Sam
FLEMCARA hasn’t been at his best in recent starts, but the son of Flemensfirth has been contesting some strong races. Down in class, and from 10lb below his last winning mark (17lb when factoring in Jack Wildman’s 7lb claim), he could land the spoils. Gerico Ville is relatively unexposed and he must be respected following his recent Lingfield success, along with Midnightreflection, who took full advantage of a sliding handicap mark when winning at Doncaster last month.
WIN: FLEMCARA; DANGER: Gerico Ville
Three races in quick succession might have been RAMORE WILL’s undoing as he chased down a hat-trick at Lingfield in December, but he has been given time off the track since then and an immediate return to form could be on the cards. River Tyne has been running to a consistent level in recent starts and she features prominently in calculations, while Eurkash, who finished a creditable third at Uttoxeter last month, heads the remainder.
WIN: RAMORE WILL; DANGER: River Tyne
Blinkers seem to have worked the oracle for INFERNO SACREE, who is 2-3 since they were fitted, and a further 7lb rise might not be enough to stop Nigel Hawke’s charge completing the hat-trick. Good Time Ahead defied an absence when bolting up at Lingfield last month and he’ll be a threat to all if running to a similar level here. Tara Iti is 1lb lower than when landing the corresponding event last year and he’s respected.
WIN: INFERNO SACREE; DANGER: Good Time Ahead

In Loving Memory of Mac and Marian McInnes
Mac and Marian McInnes were long standing Plumpton members, who took great delight in watching the horses that turned out at the course almost as often as they did. The traditional 0-100 handicap hurdle tended to be a favourite race as it would feature many repeat contenders/offenders. They travelled all over the country to visit jumps courses, but Plumpton was home. The family and friends of Mac and Marian who are gathered here today wish everyone a good day, and hope that you get as much enjoyment from a typical Plumpton midweek meeting as they did.

GOOD TIME AHEAD capitalised on a falling mark to score impressively at Lingfield last month, and having competed from much higher marks before his lenghty absence, could well be capable of defying a 6lb rise higher. Bahtiyar has slipped in the weights and is respected, whilst the hat-trick seeking Inferno Sacree is another leading player in his bid for a third course success.
