WELCOME

Welcome to Jamie’s Farm Charity Raceday

This is a special raceday for me as it is my first here as the new Plumpton CEO. Having moved from Ascot, Berkshire, I won’t be familiar with many of you as of yet, but I very much look forward to getting to know our racegoers, clients, sponsors, community and extended staff in the coming weeks. The immediate staff have made me feel very welcome and we will work together to continue to make Plumpton the best racecourse it can be and build on the legacy left by Dan Thompson. I would like to wish Dan all the best in his new role as COO at Highclere Stud, and we look forward to welcoming him back sometime soon as our guest.

Speaking of sponsors, we would like to welcome Coral, Tim Vaughan, Brough Scott, Element Human, Jerry Hinds and Clokkemaker who will be supporting the charity Jamie’s Farm for their inaugural raceday. Jamie Farm’s vision is to transform lives through their unique residential programme built around their core elements of Farming, Family, Therapy and Legacy, which already has been hugely successful so if you can donate anything they would be very appreciative.

Over the past two weeks there has been some high class racing of which our local trainers continue to be in a rich vein of form and we look forward to this continuing. We have a competitive 6 race card today, with the feature race being the Jamie’s Farm Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase (For the Gay Kindersley Trophy) so the afternoon is sure to be a great spectacle. The lack of rain over the past couple of months has been unprecedented and has seen Marcus and his ground staff team continue to work tirelessly in maintaining the course.

Looking ahead, our next raceday will be the BetGoodwin Cheltenham Preview Raceday, 13th March, providing not only six fantastic races but prior to racing we will again be holding our popular Cheltenham Preview, starting at 12.30pm in the Mayo Wynne Baxter Marquee. We’ll have an expert panel giving you some valuable insight into the runners and riders during the Festival, and hopefully they can help you pick out a winner or two. General admission tickets are available, starting from £14 with hospitality starting from £80 all can be booked at www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk

We hope you have a great day with us today and lets hope we see you back here again soon, if not for a fixture in March then for Spring Sundays and the big fixtures we have coming up at the latter end of the season.

CUSTOMER INFORMATION

Horse Care at Plumpton

At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.

During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.

The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.

Use of Screens

It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.

Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by:

Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB

Unauthorised Bookmaking

It is a condition of entry to this racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual contravening these rules will be evicted.

On-Course Bookmakers at Plumpton – Late Pay Service

If you need to claim winnings from an on-course bookmaker after a raceday, please send your ticket and covering letter to the following address:

Late Pay Department, AGT Ltd, 3a King’s Hall, St Ives Business Park, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY

Dogs are only allowed in the Picnic Enclosure and must be on a lead at all times. Please do not leave dogs unattended in your car.

Official BHA Rating

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a suffi cient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confi rmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefi xed by the letter h.

brighton mini-bus

Racegoers are advised that Plumpton Racecourse operates a return mini-bus service from Brighton Train Station on weekend and Bank Holiday racedays. The return service will depart from the racecourse rear public car park half an hour after the last race. BETTING INFORMATION

A bet can make an already exciting race far more thrilling. Backing your selection with cash and watching your chosen horse win is a great feeling.

1. Pick your winner!

Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours or go to the parade ring and view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.

2. Where to place your bet

– In the betting ring, in front of the Grandstands, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.

With the Tote at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse.

– At the William Hill betting shop, which is identical to a high street betting shop.

3. Place your bet

Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet:

Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after the race is off

– Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings

Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards enquiry’. If you have any queries about your bet, please speak to the bookmaker or the Betting Ring Manager.

PLACE TERMS

All Racecourses enforce standard each way terms, in line with Paragraph 2.7.11 of the Terms and Conditions of Entry – Special Conditions E. These terms state that where accepting each-way bets, bookmakers will ensure the terms shall be or shall be better, i.e. more favourable to the customer, than:

(a) for races with fewer than 3 runners – all to win;

(b) for races with 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2;

(c) for races with 5-7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2;

(d) for races with 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3;

(e) for handicap races with 12-15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3;

(f) for handicap races with 16-21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3-4; and

(g) for handicap races with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3-4,and shall comply with clause 2.7.2 regarding the prominent display of terms.

WHAT IS RULE 4?

Rule 4 is a betting industry-standard deduction that is made on a winning horse bet when there is a non-runner in a race, and you have taken a fi xed price.

If there is a non runner in the race, anyone who backs a non-runner will get their stakes refunded. The Rule 4 exists to make a deduction from your bet to take into account the impact on the betting market of the non runner.

The amount of the deduction varies depending on the price of the non-runner. The Rule 4 deduction is not applied to the stake, only to your winnings.

LAST MEETING REVIEW

Sam Ewing made the trip over to Plumpton a successful one by landing the opener on Crossing The Bar. He made amends after coming down at Doncaster last month to prove he is just as effective over the longer trip. Neil Mulhollands gelding was victorious off top-weight, over the market leader Shot Boii, who ran on for second. Le Ligerien wasn’t well found in the market, winning at 11/1, but was given a beautiful ride by Brendan Powell in the second. Joe Tizzard’s ten-year-old was a shade disappointing in points on his previous two outings over three miles but relished the shorter trip to get back to winning ways.

Alan King looked to have the banker of the meeting with Klitschko, but it wasn’t as plain sailing as the market suggested. He built on his two previous hurdle outings to land the odds-on chance with a patient ride from Tom Cannon, who just got there just in time to touch off the game Mardoof. Tom Cannon completed a quick-fire double as Lord Baddesley produced a bold frontrunning display in the feature race of the day. He proved superior to his rivals, stepping down in class, and impressed with his jumping to win comfortably by four and a half lengths.

Gary Moore held the favourite in the penultimate race, but Kotmask could only plug on for second. Charlie Hammond dictated the pace perfectly from the front on Thirtyfourstitches to prove that front-running can be very handy here. He never looked in any danger throughout the race and benefited from a break, which was reported by trainer Dr Richard Newland. The sixth and final race of the day went to the hat-trick seeking Welly Vicky, who completed the three-timer with little fuss under handy 7lb claimer Jay Tidball. Alastair Ralph’s thriving mare recorded her third win in just nine days which concluded another fabulous day of racing.

TODAY’S TOP TIPS

Chris Gordon is operating at a 50% strike-rate (5-10) with his chasers at Plumpton this season and today he saddles Blame The Game in the Clokkemaker Do Well Do Good Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase at 3.00.

Runner-up on his last two starts, this could go the way of OUR CHAMP, who was only narrowly denied over 2m3f at Fontwell on his most recent outing last month. The fact he led after the third last, but was headed inside the final furlong on that occasion suggests he could benefit from dropping in trip. Tapley can improve following a distant second last time out and is feared most ahead of Tenfold.

WIN: OUR CHAMP; DANGER: Tapley

SHAW’S CROSS took a big step forward and ended a long losing run when securing a facile victory over C&D last month, and the nature of that win suggests a 3lb raised mark may not be enough to stop him going in again. The reopposing Doyannie finished in second behind the selection and can also play a hand in the finish, while Line Of Descent warrants a market check too.

WIN: SHAW’S CROSS; DANGER: Doyannie

Despite having to shoulder a 7lb penalty following an emphatic win over 2m7f at Lingfield last week, SAN PEDRO is fancied to secure a double stepping up in trip. He kept on to score by 12 lengths and is expected to make his presence felt again, but Hesbehindyou finished third over an extended 2m3f on his most recent run and should not be taken lightly. Abingworth completes the shortlist.

WIN: SAN PEDRO; DANGER: Hesbehindyou

Blame The Game lost little in defeat when headed in the dying strides here last month and a 5lb rise is unlikely to prevent another bold bid. However, SUBLIME HEIGHTS appeared to improve when last seen winning over C&D and the seven-year-old could have more to offer over staying distances. Tommie Beau rates as best of the remainder now back on the same mark as his last success.

WIN: SUBLIME HEIGHTS; DANGER: Blame The Game

BLUE BIKINI came good at the second of time of asking in handicaps when winning at Taunton earlier in the month and a 4lb rise doesn’t look insurmountable for the Fergal O’Brien-trained mare. Last Of A Legend posted an improved display when finishing fourth at the same venue in December and she’s feared most with conditional rider Ben Bromley claiming a handy 7lb. Handicap debutant Symphorine could have more to offer too.

WIN: BLUE BIKINI; DANGER: Last Of A Legend

Inferno Sacree proved a different proposition when romping home over 2m here last month, but he may prove worth taking on after being hit with a 12lb rise. ISKAR D’AIRY tops the list after recently drawing clear with his conqueror at Lingfield, and the Gary Moore inmate looks more than capable of picking up a race of this nature. This Ones For Fred looks to be on a fair opening mark and is another to note.

WIN: ISKAR D’AIRY; DANGER: This Ones For Fred

Probable S.P’s: 11-4 Our Champ (IRE), 7-2 Tapley (GB), Tenfold (IRE), 5-1 Chandlers Bay (IRE), 20-1 Happy Boy (FR), 28-1 Proper Twelve (IRE), 50-1 Onesteptwosteps (IRE), Queens Fortune (IRE), 100-1 My Gift To You (IRE), 150-1 Tzunami (GB), 250-1 Broughtons Mission (GB), Coilrock (IRE)

A few with chances but TENFOLD sets a good standard on the back of his very good Huntingdon handicap thrid so gets the nod. Alan King’s Chandlers Bay caught the eye when a fast-finishing Ffos Las second last time and rates a big threat though, with in-form duo Our Champ and Tapley well in the mix too.

A few of these bring potential but BLUE BIKINI took her form up a level when scoring at Taunton last month and given she also has winning form round here she gets the nod in a very open-looking handicap. Handicap-debutante Symphorine could emerge as the chief threat ahead of the handily-weighted Brown Bullet who returns after breathing surgery.
