WELCOME
Welcome to our Winter Raceday.
And it’s great to see you after the second great freeze of the season, where we lost our 18th January fixture. It is a slight comfort in that so many places struggled and not just ourselves but for all the horses and connections it isn’t a great time of year to have their regimes interrupted and so we hope everyone took their chance to get the vaccinations done and this is the last of the adverse weather.
Some of you may also have seen in our comms this week that Plumpton will have a new Chief Executive from 28th February in Craig Staddon as I depart for pastures new. However he has actually started today and so we’ll have a good few weeks crossover and so if you see him around please do give him a warm welcome. With experience at both Ascot and Cheltenham he has loads of experience and he’ll be a super addition, and no doubt an improvement, for Plumpton’s team.
Speaking of team’s, one close to Plumpton’s heart had a cracking day on Saturday with Editeur Du Gite sparkling at Cheltenham for the Moore’s, with a superb and gutsy win in the Grade 1 Clarence House which throws the Champion Chase wide open at the Festival. Our team are delighted for the whole family (and Edi’s owners), but it was also a special day for Niall Houlihan who rode his first grade 1 winner and so a well deserved congratulations to him. After a treble here in October 2021, he’s been high on Plumpton regulars radars and I’m sure a few shrewdies among you took the 14/1 on offer yesterday!
Today’s action is also looking really strong and I think each race could be pretty darn close as the races have filled up really nicely, especially our feature Tysers Handicap Hurdle with the top 4 in the racecard only separated by 3 pounds and with a nice concession of weight to the remaining 5 runners, it looks set to be a cracker at 3/1 the field. Similarly, the 3.50pm there is only 5 pounds between the 6 in the racecard and so on ratings it is another cracking handicap to get our teeth into – let’s hope they deliver, both as a spectacle and for our sponsors.
Tysers have been coming here and supporting us for many a year and so our thanks as ever goes to Henrietta and her team for their support and we wish them a fantastic day. IEP Financial are such a well-known name around the South East, I’m sure many of you have come across them in some capacity over the years. We thank Ian and his team for their continued support and hope they have a cracker.
We’ve started to get quite a few calls and bookings for our Easter Festival and Ladies Day in the last week or so and so as those big days will be here before you know it, so if you fancied a bit of a treat in one of the restaurants and/or boxes – please do get in touch as availability won’t be around for long!
But for now, enjoy today’s racing and have a great day with us.
Best Wishes, Dan
Dan Thompson Chief Executive

CUSTOMER INFORMATION
Horse Care at Plumpton
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Use of Screens
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by:
Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual contravening these rules will be evicted.
On-Course Bookmakers at Plumpton – Late Pay Service
If you need to claim winnings from an on-course bookmaker after a raceday, please send your ticket and covering letter to the following address:

Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a suffi cient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confi rmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefi xed by the letter h.
brighton mini-bus

The return service will depart from the racecourse rear public car park half an hour after the last race. BETTING INFORMATION
A bet can make an already exciting race far more thrilling. Backing your selection with cash and watching your chosen horse win is a great feeling.
1. Pick your winner!
Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours or go to the parade ring and view the horses. Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper. Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. Where to place your bet
– In the betting ring, in front of the Grandstands, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.
With the Tote at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse.
– At the William Hill betting shop, which is identical to a high street betting shop.
3. Place your bet
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet:
Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after the race is off
– Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings
Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards enquiry’. If you have any queries about your bet, please speak to the bookmaker or the Betting Ring Manager.
PLACE TERMS
All Racecourses enforce standard each way terms, in line with Paragraph 2.7.11 of the Terms and Conditions of Entry – Special Conditions E. These terms state that where accepting each-way bets, bookmakers will ensure the terms shall be or shall be better, i.e. more favourable to the customer, than:
(a) for races with fewer than 3 runners – all to win;
(b) for races with 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2;
(c) for races with 5-7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2;
(d) for races with 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3;
(e) for handicap races with 12-15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3;
(f) for handicap races with 16-21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3-4; and
(g) for handicap races with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3-4,and shall comply with clause 2.7.2 regarding the prominent display of terms.
WHAT IS RULE 4?
Rule 4 is a betting industry-standard deduction that is made on a winning horse bet when there is a non-runner in a race, and you have taken a fi xed price.
If there is a non runner in the race, anyone who backs a non-runner will get their stakes refunded. The Rule 4 exists to make a deduction from your bet to take into account the impact on the betting market of the non runner.
The amount of the deduction varies depending on the price of the non-runner. The Rule 4 deduction is not applied to the stake, only to your winnings.

Alan King boasts a 26% strike-rate with his hurdlers at Plumpton in the last five seasons and today he saddles Aldsworth (1.30) and Betterforeveryone (3.15).
HERMINO AA showed more than enough on his hurdles debut at Doncaster to suggest that he can get off the mark here, with the slight rise in distance expected to suit. Bertie Blue also looks as though he could also be aided by going up in trip, while Aldsworth ran with credit over C&D last time out and may be open to improvement.
WIN: HERMINO AA; DANGER: Bertie Blue
Runner-up on three of his last four starts, SHAW’S CROSS deserves a change of luck and this looks like a good opportunity for the veteran to regain the winning thread. Sherborne must improve on what he has shown on his most recent outings but is not dismissed, along with Doyannie, who is only making her second start for this yard.
WIN: SHAW’S CROSS; DANGER: Sherborne
PONCHO sets the standard following an excellent runner-up effort on his hurdles debut at Wincanton. Conditions should be in his favour once more and he gets the vote ahead of Trevor’s Lad, who ran well on his debut when third at Fontwell last November. Tapley will need to improve on what he has shown lately but he should not be underestimated.
WIN: PONCHO; DANGER: Trevor’s Lad
BURROWS PARK gained a sixth success over hurdles when making all to win in comfortable fashion at Exeter earlier in the month. The veteran might face a sterner test for the lead in this deeper contest, but he doesn’t look overburdened by a 6lb rise and gets the vote. Sirobbie ran his best race for Ian Williams when collared close home at Ludlow recently and looks the chief threat, ahead of C&D winner Kansas City Chief.
WIN: BURROWS PARK; DANGER: Sirobbie
Uallrightharry won over C&D in good style last month and a 5lb rise in the ratings doesn’t look insurmountable given the manner of that success. However, the 11-year-old has struggled to win off this mark before and it may be worth chancing SIZING CUSIMANO, who wasn’t disgraced when last seen jumping out to his left at Taunton and may be able to capitalise off a tumbling rating. Last-time-out winner Art Of Illusion looks best of the remainder.
WIN: SIZING CUSIMANO; DANGER: Uallrightharry
Tommy Dillion romped home in the mud at Lingfield last month to gain a first success under Rules and he can’t be ruled out despite a 12lb hike in the handicap. However, with this likely to be less of a stamina test, a case can be made for EXECUTIVE POOL, who finished 26 lengths behind in third. Better is expected from the son of Churchill on this sounder surface and he gets the vote. Inferno Sacree is another to consider.
WIN: EXECUTIVE POOL; DANGER: Tommy Dillion

Having performed with credit off higher marks than this over hurdles the last twice, BALLYMAGROARTY BOY earns the vote. He was below par on his latest start in this sphere, a C&D race won by Special Acceptance in December 2020, but clearly didn’t give his running that day.
