Welcome to our Jump Season Preview Raceday.
It’s our third fixture of the season and we really get rolling now, as we hope the rain also does! We’ve had plenty of rain since our last fixture (around 40mm) but we’ve had to apply some water to the track late on in the build up as the materialised weekend rain was starting to dissipate. It’s a challenging time for tracks and for the very end of October, it is quite amazing how many tracks still have Good or even some Good to Firm in their going descriptions.
It was great to see over 2,000 spectators here for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust Raceday a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic news that they managed to raise over £75k once again for the wonderful Charity. Unfortunately Bob couldn’t make it himself on the day but we hope he is feeling much better very soon. On the Charitable note, we have launched our own Plumpton Local Legends initiative this season and aim to give people some recognition and a day out on us for all they do for other people please do send us some nominations and have a look at the details on: www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk/general-information/plumptons-local-legends.
We have £88k of prize-money on offer for today’s card, with the feature being the Cranbrook Underwriting Handicap Hurdle at 2.20pm worth £26k. Aside from our three features, (Sussex National, Sussex Champion Hurdle & Sussex Champion Chase) this is our biggest pot of the season and last year’s renewal served up a treat with Champagne Fever defeating The Bomber Liston by a nose at odds of 20/1. We don’t have the same field size as last year, but it still looks a really competitive race and so let’s hope we see a cracker. Thank you to Cranbrook Underwriting for their sponsorship, and we hope they, Beavis Morgan & Moorfields Advisory, Creative Pod and Bet Goodwin have great days with us and their clients.
Don’t forget to join Colin Brown in Chasers Bar at 11.30am to run through the season ahead. He always get some great guests to join him for the Preview and I’m sure you’ll pick up some great nuggets of information for the months ahead.
Our next fixture is the 14th November and then we have two fixtures in the festive period (we can’t use the “c” word yet, can we?) on Monday 12th December and Tuesday 20th December before the Sussex National on Bank Holiday Monday January 2nd.
Have a great day today and lets hope you pick out some winners.
Best Wishes, Dan

Horse Care at Plumpton
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Use of Screens
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by: Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual contravening these rules will be evicted.

Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a suffi cient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confi rmed.
subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in
the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating
such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefi xed by the letter h.
LAST MEETING REVIEW
Pasvolsky put in a fine jumping performance to make it two wins from two starts at Plumpton under Tom Cannon.
Our last meeting continued the theme of excellent racing, which was headlined by the Moore family as they took home our first and fifth races.
The day kicked off with a novice hurdle that attracted five runners. The Paul Webber trained Kilfilum Woods was installed as favourite but failed to oblige under Tom Scudamore and instead it was the Charlie Longsdon trained Alien Storm who ran out a ready winner under Paul O’Brien.
Our second race of the day was a much tighter affair, that gave team Moore their first winner of the day. Ozzie Man was having his first go over fences after a couple of good runs last season but he was always going to a make a better chaser. He looked to be slightly outpaced turning for home but stayed on well and should be even better upped in trip.
Jamie Snowdon delivered the first favourite of the day with Cornicello in our second novice hurdle. Jonathan Burke looked like he might be in a bit of trouble coming into the straight but found plenty for pressure to collar Henry Box Brown late on.
Pasvolsky prevailed in our feature race of the day under an excellent Tom Cannon, who opted to keep it simple from the front. It was a fine jumping performance and despite facing a strong challenge two out from Fairway Freddy he kept on well to claim the prize.
Mark Of Gold wasn’t hanging about in our fifth race and took a keen hold under Jamie Moore. Despite not being overly fluent at the last, Tara Iti could not bridge the gap and it bought up a nice double on the day. Our penultimate race went the way of Art Of Illusion for Tom Scudamore and Warren Greatrex. A fine jumping display made sure it was plain sailing for backers and it will be interesting to see where he goes next.
Daryl Jacob and Harry Whittington took home the lucky last. Harry’s Hottie looks like a mare to keep onside this season.
Neverbeen To Paris won the Sky Sports Racing Handicap Hurdle last season and
he hasn’t
of repeating
get his head in front again since, he has every
feat
the same mark at 4.05.
MULLENBEG, successful in Listed company in the NH Flat sphere, has shown more than enough in both career outings over hurdles to suggest that she can get off the mark here. The booking of Harry Cobden is another plus and she gets the vote ahead of Shelikesthelights, who was a taking winner on her bumper debut at Fontwell back in May. Indelible Spin and Spitfire Girl can also have a say in proceedings.
WIN: MULLENBEG; DANGER: Shelikesthelights
This represents a steep drop in grade for SCARFACE, who contested the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival when last seen in action. Runner-up in his two starts immediately prior to that, Joe Tizzard’s charge is a confident selection to strike on his return, with easy Fontwell winner Fascinating Lips appearing best placed to chase him home. The step up in trip looks a major positive for Hermes Le Gris as well.
WIN: SCARFACE; DANGER: Fascinating Lips
Last sighted when comfortably seeing off his rivals at Market Rasen in February, FELTON BELLEVUE can score on his return to action and make it three wins in his last four. The seven-year-old has never been outside the first two in five starts over fences and Atakan looks to be his biggest danger, on his chase debut. Although winless since June of last year, Auld Sod is capable of getting in the mix as well.
WIN: FELTON BELLEVUE; DANGER: Atakan
Royaume Uni is entitled to improve on his recent Flat spin at Goodwood and he was proving extremely competitive in this code when last seen, finishing second in a novice event at Cheltenham in April. However, LORD BADDESLEY makes slightly more appeal after posting a runner-up effort on his seasonal debut at Chepstow earlier this month and a 1lb rise in the ratings could prove lenient. Solo Saxophone rates next best, ahead of Good News.
STANLEY PINCOMBE shaped encouragingly on his chasing debut to take third at Fontwell at the start of this month. The Chris Gordon-trained five-year-old is entitled to improve with that experience under his belt and there should be more come. En Coeur appeared to show the benefit of a wind procedure when runner-up at the same venue and he merits consideration, as does Bolsover Bill, who has performed admirably in defeat of late.
WIN: STANLEY PINCOMBE; DANGER: En Coeur
A few to consider but preference is for COOLNAUGH HAZE, who remains unexposed and Philip Hobbs’ four-year-old could be up to making the perfect start to his season. Caramelised fell at an early stage at Sedgefield but if he’s none the worse for it, he’s one to take very seriously. Purple King is another who shouldn’t be ruled out on his seasonal reappearance, nor should Privatory.
WIN: COOLNAUGH HAZE; DANGER: Caramelised
Although he’s now 0-9 over hurdles, WARRANTY put up some excellent efforts in defeat last term and Gary Moore’s five-year-old is fancied to get off the mark on his comeback. Boom time Banker goes in pursuit of the hat-trick following her C&D win last month and she’s entitled to plenty of respect with Sam Twiston-Davies taking over in the saddle. Dusky Days could be well treated for his handicap debut so is another worth keeping a close eye on.
WIN: WARRANTY; DANGER: Boomtime Banker
