WELCOME
Welcome to Plumpton – Jamie’s Farm Raceday
Our fifth fixture of the new year and we are proud to host our 2nd Jamie’s Farm Charity Race Day, organised and championed by journalist and legendary racing broadcaster Brough Scott and supporting committee. For those that are not aware, Jamie’s Farm offers a preventative solution to empower young people to change course. Small groups of young people are immersed into farm life during a weeklong residential, or series of day visits, tackling real jobs with tangible outcomes. Within a supportive family environment this encourages cooperation, boosts self-esteem, and builds positive relationships.
I would like to thank our Partners; BetGoodwin, Southern Cranes and Access Ltd and Strong Flavours for their tremendous support throughout the 2023/24 Season, along with today’s sponsors, Brough Scott, Stonegate Homes, The Jolly Sportsman, Coral Racing, BetGoodwin and Hot To Trot Racing. We wish you all have a tremendous day.
We have a cracking card for punters to get their teeth into today, with 45 runners declared across 6 races worth over £48,000 of prize money. Our feature on the track today is our third race, the £11,000 Class 3 The Dine & Stay @ The Jolly Sportsman Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Steeple Chase. Last year we saw Sublime Heights win the feature race, trained by Toby Lawes and ridden by Gina Andrews beating Fawsley Spirit by 11 lengths with Tommie Beau 2 lengths third. Although the renewal this year only has 7 runners, the quality is strong and includes the 2023 Sussex National winner Atakan so I am sure the race will be competitive.
Since our last raceday we had the very sad news that Jamie Moore has had to hang up his riding boots. During his career he rode 968 winners including seven wins in Grade 1 races spanning 23 seasons At Plumpton alone, he won an incredible 112 winners, second only to Sir A P McCoy who rode 145 winners. I am sure you will join me in wishing Jamie the very best of luck in the future and thanking him for many great memories.
Our next two fixtures will be Monday 4th March and Monday 11th March so if you are thinking of booking tickets or hospitality for any of these days make sure you visit our website or contact one of our team now. With Easter early this year, Sunday 31st March and Monday 1st April, if you are thinking of booking make sure you do this early as this is a popular racing weekend with both tickets and hospitality always in high demand.
Have a great day at Plumpton, Heart Of The Community.
Best wishes
Craig Staddon Chief Executive

CUSTOMER INFORMATION
Horse Care at Plumpton
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Use of Screens
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. All equine care at Plumpton is provided by:
Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual contravening these rules will be evicted.

BETTING INFORMATION
A bet can make an already exciting race far more thrilling. Backing your selection with cash and watching your chosen horse win is a great feeling.
1. Pick your winner!
There are many ways that you can pick your selection:
- Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours or go to the parade ring and view the horses.
- Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper.
- Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
2. Where to place your bet
– In the betting ring, in front of the Grandstands, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.
– With the Tote at one of their designated betting points all around the racecourse.
– At the William Hill betting shop, which is identical to a high street betting shop.
3. Place your bet
Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet:
– Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after the race is off .
– Keep your bet receipt safe. You will need this to collect your winnings
– Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards enquiry’. If you have any queries about your bet, please speak to the bookmaker or the Betting Ring Manager.
PLACE TERMS
All Racecourses enforce standard each way terms, in line with Paragraph 2.7.11 of the Terms and Conditions of Entry – Special Conditions E. These terms state that where accepting each-way bets, bookmakers will ensure the terms shall be or shall be better, i.e. more favourable to the customer, than:
(a) for races with fewer than 3 runners – all to win;
(b) for races with 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2;
(c) for races with 5-7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2;
(d) for races with 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3;
(e) for handicap races with 12-15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3;
(f) for handicap races with 16-21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds on place 1-2-3-4; and
(g) for handicap races with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds on place 1-2-3-4,and shall comply with clause 2.7.2 regarding the prominent display of terms.
WHAT IS RULE 4?
Rule 4 is a betting industry-standard deduction that is made on a winning horse bet when there is a non-runner in a race, and you have taken a fi xed price.
If there is a non runner in the race, anyone who backs a non-runner will get their stakes refunded. The Rule 4 exists to make a deduction from your bet to take into account the impact on the betting market of the non runner.
The amount of the deduction varies depending on the price of the non-runner. The Rule 4 deduction is not applied to the stake, only to your winnings.

Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principle purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

TODAY’S TOP TIPS
David’s Well is the pick of those with hurdling experience based on his fifth at Newbury last time, although preference is for WINTER REPRISE. Alan King’s seven-year-old was Listed placed on the Flat and earned a peak rating of 98. If he can run to anywhere near that level of form he should be hard to beat. Come To Pass is another to note.
totewin: Winter Reprise toteeachway: David’s Well
RACE 2
RACE 3
CALLIN BATON ROUGE filled second place over course and distance on her most recent outing and the daughter of Westerner gets the vote here off just a 1lb higher mark. Aworkinprogress has shown some promise in novice/maiden hurdles and has to be noted on his handicap debut, while Lone Soldier edges out Activist to be the pick of the remainder.
totewin: Callin Baton Rouge toteeachway: Aworkinprogress
RACE 4
SUBLIME HEIGHTS bounced back to form when second over C&D four weeks ago and Toby Lawes’ gelding has to be of interest off the same mark. Everything’sontick failed to fire on his most recent outing but is a player based on his two previous efforts, while the last-time-out winners Atakan and Windance both have to be noted on their returns.
totewin: Sublime Heights toteeachway: Everything’sontick
RACE 5
Dear Ralphy has been running consistently well over hurdles this season, but he must bounce back from a fall over fences at Wincanton. The vote, therefore, goes to WEAVER’S ANSWER, who can benefit from the application of cheekpieces coupled with this marked step up in trip to take the gold medal. Delgany Dreamer has slipped to an attractive mark, and she shouldn’t be overlooked for the Dan Skelton team.
totewin: Weaver’s Answer toteeachway: Dear Ralphy
RACE 6
CLONDAW ROBIN is unlucky not to be a C&D winner after falling when leading at the last on his most recent outing. Off a 5lb higher mark, Andy Irvine’s charge can make amends for that mishap. Robins Field shaped as if this application of cheekpieces will suit when finishing second over an extended 2m3f at Wetherby and could make his presence felt. After finishing fifth in a higher grade last month, Shaw’s Cross shouldn’t be dismissed now eased 3lb with his sights lowered.
totewin: Clondaw Robin toteeachway: Robins Field
ONLY FOOLS posted a workmanlike success at Ludlow prior to finishing a creditable third over an extended 2m4f at Leicester on her most recent start. Nudged up just 2lb by the handicapper, she can make a bold bid to go two places better. Politacus was highly tried in bumpers and she can give the selection most to think about stepping up in trip on her handicap debut, while Parikarma represents a stable who have been among the winners recently and cannot be discounted.
LAST MEETING REVIEW
Chris Gordon’s San Pedro picked up the win in the day’s opener as he bounced back from a below par showing at Kempton last month to get his first win of the season. Ridden by Freddie Gordon he was prominent throughout the contest before taking the lead in the home turn. From then on he couldn’t be caught, storming ahead to win by a mightily impressive ten lengths ahead of Hasty Parisian in second.
It was a swift double for Chris Gordon as another from his yard picked up the win in the second. The seven-year-old gelding Alto Alto, this time ridden by Rex Dingle, battling on well to win by just a head. It was a back and forth contest between Alto Alto and Prince Quali but the Chris Gordon trained gelding just managed to find that little bit extra to hold on to the win and making it back to back successes at this course.
12 took to the track for the third race, a maiden hurdle and it was the Anthony Charlton trained Lario who picked up the win. The five-year-old has shown plenty of promise in Germany earlier in his career but this was his first success on these shores. It was a confident ride from Harry Cobden as he won much more comfortably than the distance would suggest. The well-backed Kotmask picked up the win for trainer Gary Moore in the fourth, making it two wins on the bounce for the gelding. Ridden here by Caoilin Quinn, he raced well and his victory never really looked in doubt. Sam Twiston-Davies continued his great strike rate this season as he scored aboard Colours On Canvas in the fifth. The five-year-old has been in fine form this season and looked very sharp here. He increased the tempo approaching the ninth hurdle and none of his rivals were able to find that extra gear to contest the race and the Jim & Suzi Best trained gelding won completely unchallenged.
It was the Stuart Edmunds trained Majestic Jameela who got the win in the day’s finale. The mare may not have been the most fluent with her jumping early on but she rallied back well to pick up the win ahead of Callin Baton Rouge in second.

When I first visited Jamie’s Farm in Lewes, I was so struck with what they were doing with the visiting group of children and how lucky my own life had been, that I sat in the car and cried.
Those of us who live in the countryside should never take its wonders for granted. Jamie’s Farm is changing young lives by opening those wonders up.
My committee mates, Paul Bowtell, David Cazalet, Richard Gurney and Jonathan Shinton have equally been struck by the charity’s work, and both John Inverdale and John Francome are in attendance today. Francome’s first book was called “Born Lucky” This race day is to help those not so blessed.

Not so competitive as the numbers suggest and DAVID’S WELL looks the way to go on the back of his promising recent Newbury fifth with the expectation of more to come from Chris Gordon’s son of Getaway. Alan King’s debutant Winter Reprise has a long absence to overcome but was a useful winner on the level so commands plenty of respect. Come To Pass appeals as the pick of the rest for place purposes

A tightly-knit handicap in which marginal preference is for TIME TO BITE who can capitalise on a reduced mark having gone better than his fifth placing suggests at Exeter last time out. Andy Irvine’s veteran duo Clondaw Robin and Shaw’s Cross make appeal and can chase home the selection in that order.

POLITACUS has yet to really fire over hurdles given her useful winning bumper form but looks to have got in lightly for her handicap bow so gets the nod with this return to a longer distance also a likely plus. Fellow handicap debutante Molto Bene also looks to have more to offer and is next on the list ahead of in-form Only Fools.
