Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Whilstsponsoringoneortworacesat a fixture is common practice for Weatherbys, sponsoring an entire card is a unique occurrence but we are delighted to do so this afternoon at Nottingham for what looks to be a greatdaysracing.

Themostvaluableraceonthecardis the Weatherbys Digital Solutions Colwick Cup Handicap over two miles, and we have a hot favourite in GoldenShotforSirMarkPrescott.

Golden Shot has a great chance of winning the feature under a penalty.

The four-year-old made it four wins fromhislastsixstarts, followingahike up in trip, when a runaway 27 length winner at Ffos Las when last seen. A 5lb penalty may not be enough to stop the progressive stayer under Luke Morris. Ralph Beckett’s threeyear-old Campaign Trail is similarly unexposed over staying trips, stepping up in trip here after an impressive maiden victory at Catterick last month. He is in receipt of a sizeable age-allowance of 13lbs in this contest, and could give the favourite most to think about if buildingonthatvictory.

Top weight is Ed Bethell’s Quantum Leap, who overcame a slow start at Haydock to win going away on handicap debut last time. The fouryear-oldmustdealwitha5lbrisebut he won with a fair amount in hand that day and there is plenty of scope forimprovement.Mothillwasjustover threelengthsbackinthirdfollowinga similarly slow start. Three times a winner over hurdles, Neil Mulholland’s five-year-old was making his UK flat debut and can get closer to that rival witha5lbswingintheweights.

The Weatherbys Bloodstock Pro Maiden Stakes has been won by some smart types in recent years, including subsequent Group 3 winner Bashkirova and the now 106-rated Ghaly. Perhaps the most interesting contender is George Boughey’s King Lear, a Galileo colt out of two-time Group 1 winner Amazing Maria. The well-bred colt was slowly away and showed greenness on debut at Newmarket, but still ran on well to finish fourth. He showed promise and should improve leaps and bounds for the race. Ayyab is still a maiden after three starts, but has improved with every run this term. The Adaay filly travelled strongly in a Newmarket novice last time out to finish third, a length behind a next time out winner and well clear of the fourth, and shouldgiveanotherboldshowing.

EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, led by CharlieAppleby’sCrystalOfTime. The Godolphin-owned filly is bred in the purple, a half-sister to two-time Group 1 winner Nations Pride, and the yard’s juveniles must always merit serious consideration. Kevin Stott and George Boughey team up on Rose Branch, and the pair have an impressive 18% strike rate together thisseason.ThisKingmanfillyisoutof aonce-racedmarewhoisafullsister to Oaks winner Qualify and may be onethatneedsfurtherintime.

Elsewhere on the card, the Weatherbys Hamilton Handicap over 6f looks to be an extremely competitive contest with nine closely matched three-year-olds going to post. Northern Spirit holds leading claims for Brian Ellison, an impressive course and distance winner in firsttime cheekpieces on his penultimate start. He backed that up with a good second to Dark Trooper at Yarmouth last time; that rival boosting the form when landing the Shergar Cup Sprint last weekend, so Ellison’s runner is a bigplayerfromjusta1lbhighermark. Theothercourseanddistancewinner in the field is Havana Pusey for John Gallagher, landing a maiden here back in May. The Havana Grey filly has since finished fourth in Listed company and a close third in a strong Epsom handicap, and should appreciatethereturntoasounder

Buddy’s Beauty is the sole course and distance winner in the last race of the day and she looks the one to beat as she chases the hattrick here.

Buddy’sBeautyisthesolecourseand distance winner in the closing weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap and she looks the one to beat as she chases the hattrick here. The fouryear-old must overcome a hefty 10lb hikeintheweightsfollowinganallthe way four length victory at Leicester butisstillunexposedwithjustthefive careerstarts.

The first race on the card, the Weatherbys Scientific Amateur Jockeys’Handicap, looks as open as any and may be the most difficult race to dissect. Mr Thomas Easterby notched up a win in a similar contest at Pontefract last week and has proved very capable in the saddle in just a few rides. His ride, Motarajel, is winless since 2022 but has now dropped to 9lbs below that winning mark and his last two runs, third at Carlisle and fourth at Beverley, offer encouragementthathecangetback into the winners’ enclosure off this sortofmark.

PLAY SMARTER

None of these look especially solid but, save for his latest effort at Beverley, BARNEY’S ANGEL has proved to be consistent sinceventuring down the handicap route, making the frame all 5 starts prior to what was presumably a blip last time. The 4-y-o may well open his account at the tenth time of asking. Motarajel is an infrequent winner but is more likely than most to run his race and should be on the premises, while cases can also be made for Hotspur Harry and Starfighter.

PLAY SMARTER

KING LEAR is bred to be the part and shaped with plenty of promise amidst inexperience in what looked a hot novice at Newmarket on last month’s debut, so he’s the percentage call to build on that and get off the mark at the second attempt. Motriff is another well-bred sort who seems sure to improve on his opening effort at Chelmsford, while Liberty and Ayyab are others capable of getting involved.

Plenty with chances but it’s impossible to side against GOLDEN SHOT who still looks ahead of his mark under a 5lb penalty for his wide-margin Ffos Las victory and also remains unexposed over staying trips. Both Alnilam and Quantum Leap have better days ahead of them too and can chase home Sir Mark Prescott’s upwardly-mobile stayer in that order Campaign Trail completes the shortlist.
