AFTERNOON RACING

WEDNESDAY 27 OCTOBER 2021 Official Racecard £2.00

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU

A very warm welcome to Nottingham for this autumnal raceday, featuring eight exciting races for you to enjoy. The opening race on the card, the EBF Stallions Golden Horn Maiden Stakes, is named after the 2014 winner. Golden Horn began his career at Nottingham, winning this maiden before going on to win six more races, including The Derby, The Eclipse and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Finishing just a head behind him that day was Storm The Stars, who would subsequently finish third behind Golden Horn in The Derby and win the Great Voltigeur. Fast forward to 2020 and the winner of this race was Adayar, who has since been successful in The Derby and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. As far as we know, no other maiden race in Britain has produced two Derby winners in the space of seven years, so we shall all be watching with great anticipation today! Our third race, the RacingTV.com Handicap, is a new addition to the fixture and is also slightly unusual in that it is open to horses aged two years old and upwards. Typically, horses aged two would only race against others of the same age, but this race provides an opportunity to receive a weight allowance from their older rivals. We are very grateful to our race sponsors the European Breeders Fund, Racing TV and the Amateur Jockeys Association for their support of today's racing. We ask all attendees to read the advice later in this racecard, which explains what we can all do to keep each other safe whilst on course. We wish all the horses and their connections the best of luck today and hope that you have a wonderful time with us here at Nottingham Racecourse.

PLAY SMARTER

The unexposed ROGUE BEAR makes plenty of appeal on the back of his decisive C&D success 3 weeks ago, for which a 6lb rise is hardly draconian. He is seemingly versatile ground-wise and further progress is on the cards. Gainsbourg has won two of his last three starts and should give a good account, but bigger threats may be posed by Urban Violet and Mostawaa.

PLAY SMARTER

RAASEL appeared to have more left in the tank when seeing off Wrenthorpe over this C&D a fortnight ago and a 3lb rise is unlikely to be enough to bring his winning spree to a halt. The latter should again be on the premises and is second choice ahead of Show Me Show Me, who returned to form when hitting the crossbar at Pontefract recently. The 2-y-o Josies Kid also needs considering.

PLAY SMARTER

MELLOW MAGIC has had a few chances now but her consistency can’t be knocked and she’s certainly the one to beat here. Swiss Mistress performed disappointingly back from a break on AW earlier in the month so it could be that the chief threat comes from Coquelicot, who was a very useful 3-time bumper winner in early-2020.

Health And Safety Notice The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Nottingham Racecourse. The emergency exits from the bars onto the grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would request that you do not stop whilst in this area. We would also request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the first aid room is located on the ground floor of the Centenary Stand.

Racehorse & Jockey Welfare All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials are here to ensure that the racecourse delivers those standards. In addition Nottingham Racecourse employs two veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

Dogs No dogs are permitted on the Racecourse with the exception of assistance dogs. Food & Drink Alcohol, glass bottles and glass/china receptacles must not be brought onto the Racecourse. Picnics are permitted on the Grandstand trackside lawn only. Prize Money The Horserace Betting Levy Board General Prize Fund scheme provides for the inclusion of £333,600 at this Racecourse in 2020.

If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

Media Coverage All Attendees are reminded that many races and fixtures are given coverage on television, radio, online and in print, as well as by the racecourse in its own marketing literature. By entering the racecourse, attendees are accepting that they may appear in such broadcast and print coverage or in literature produced by the racecourse itself. Accordingly, attendees shall have no right to object to their inclusion in any such material. Each attendee will give any additional consents or waivers required for the unrestricted lawful use of any coverage (if any) without request for payment or imposing any other conditions.
