GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME BACK TO SIXFIELDS FOR TODAY’S GAME WITH COLCHESTER UNITED. A WARM WELCOME IS EXTENDED TO EVERYONE FROM TODAY’S VISITORS AS WELL AS THE SKY SPORTS CAMERAS OF COURSE, WITH THE GAME BEING SHOWN LIVE ON TV TODAY.
T
oday is also the first Saturday home game since Sports Alpha Capital arrived at the club and we are hoping for a bumper Sixfields attendance to mark the occasion. We have been running an offer to allow season ticket holders to bring a friend for half price to today’s game and that has proved successful, and we have also worked with a number of local schools and community groups ahead of today’s game. We are paying tribute to SAC’s Brazilian links at the game today. Not only does the club store have some Brazilian merchandise, the refreshment kiosks have some traditional Brazilian food for you to enjoy and we hope today is very much a positive welcome to the club to Sports Alpha Capital. It is a real pleasure to have what is a rare a Saturday home game at the moment, having come off the back of two long trips over the last couple of Saturdays, York City and Grimsby Town. We are delighted that those of you who made the trips to support us were rewarded with good results and performances that hopefully made those trips worthwhile. After today, the Emirates FA Cup draw means that after we visit Accrington Stanley next Saturday, we return to York City the following weekend and then have a trip to Salford City to
JAMES WHITING
face before our run of long distance away games ends. It is fair to say both players and supporters will be familiar with the motorways of England (and some hotels no doubt) by the time that run comes to an end. To those of you joining us on our travels, thank you for your support, it is very much appreciated. Tuesday night’s defeat to Tranmere Rovers was a frustrating one for us. I thought some of our play, in the first thirty minutes in particular, was first class and no one could have complained had we been two or three goals ahead at that point. But, as Chris Hogg pointed out after the game, we were made to pay for not being ruthless and Tranmere ended up with what they would see as a perfect away day smash and grab 1-0 win. It was a tough one to take for us, a frustrating result but again we saw plenty of encouragement in the performance. We are in a busy run of games at the moment, with the rearranged home game with Oldham Athletic coming up as our next home game a week on Tuesday with games scheduled on three of the four Tuesdays next month. We have a fair sized squad and it is likely that everyone will be needed to play their part as the busy run continues. Talking of that Oldham game, that is our remembrance fixture and at
ntfc.co.uk
ntfcdirect.co.uk
6.45pm that evening, Club Chaplain Haydon Spenceley will be leading our annual service of remembrance. Please do join us if you can. It isn’t just the men’s first team who have some important games at the moment. Tomorrow at the O’Riordan Bond Stadium, Northampton Town Women welcome Stoke City for a first round proper tie in the Women’s FA Cup. Good luck to Matt Vernon and the players as they look to pull off a shock result against a side from a higher level. Then, back at Sixfields on Tuesday night, there is FA Youth Cup first round action as the youth team welcome Grimsby Town. Best wishes to Shane Goddard and the players as they look to build on what has been an excellent start to the season for them. Welcome to everyone who is here today as part of our season ticket bring a friend for half price offer. We know hundreds of you have taken up the offer and we hope you enjoy the game. If you are a season ticket holder, please don’t forget we also have the 10% discount offer in the club store. This offer is in store only and on full price items only, but please do pop in before or after the game today to secure yourself a bargain! Thank you for your support today, please enjoy the game.

edro Piquet is a Brazilian economist whose career began in interdealer brokerage, before moving into private markets, where he worked on the structuring of real estate and forestry investment funds. His understanding of how capital is priced, raised and deployed carries into his work at the intersection of finance and football, supported by an MSc in Sport Management and the Business of Football, with emphasis on accounting and the regulatory

Within the fund, Pedro leads the development of the financial strategy underpinning football decision-making, linking squad-building and Financial Fair Play rules. PEDRO’S THOUGHTS: “The key thing about SAC is the ntfc.co.uk

way everyone involved in the group has a different skill set and can bring different qualities to the group. It is about having a positive impact to help the club. “With SAC I am in charge of following the balancing act between ambition and sustainability and making sure we follow the rules and regulations. “We are really excited about this opportunity. We bring new ideas and we want to bring something the town is proud of and bring more soldiers to the Shoe Army.”

ugh Strange is a Londonbased technology investor and invests in and advises early stage founders looking to build transformational businesses. He was one of the first employees at Nubank, where he ran product and design for eight years, as the business grew from a handful of people in a single Brazilian city to over 8,000 employees and over 100M customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. He began his career as a consultant at Bain & Company in New York, South Africa, and São Paulo. He holds a degree in Mechanical
and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton, an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, and an MPA in International Development from Harvard’s Kennedy School. Hugh grew up in Ottawa, Canadá and his family is from Wolverhampton originally. HUGH’S THOUGHTS: “The history of the club and the town really appealed to us. “The community links were also of great interest to us and this is a well run club with a lot of foundations where we can make a big difference and we feel this is a project we can get involved in and make a difference.

“As investors we have been mentally invested for a few months and the checks took a while and that was frustrating but ultimately that’s good because we have certainty and that’s good for everyone. “It is important to have the previous owners involved. Kelvin, David and Nigel have done a great job and their knowledge and experience will help. “All the value we can bring off the pitch provides us with a broader range of things we can support the team with on the pitch. Nothing is guaranteed but we can maximise everything we do off the pitch, it will help and that’s the plan.”

COBBLERS PAST LOOKING BACK: 40 YEARS ON –
THE DIVISION FOUR CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON OF 1986-87
G
PART SIX: COBBLERS KEEP WINNING AT THE COUNTY GROUND
raham Carr’s Northampton Town continued their impressive October form with two more victories at the County Ground, overcoming Burnley and Hereford United to maintain their position at the top of Division Four.
Northampton Town 4-2 Burnley Wednesday 22nd October 1986 – Division Four County Ground – Attendance: 5,718
The Cobblers continued their winning run with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Burnley. Trevor Morley opened the scoring after 26 minutes, collecting a short pass from Dave Gilbert before finding the net. Morley doubled his tally on 37 minutes after Richard Hill chipped the goalkeeper, allowing him to run in behind and score. Just six minutes later, Ian Benjamin volleyed home a Warren Donald cross to give Northampton a commanding 3-0 half-time lead. Burnley pulled one back through
James on 64 minutes with a thunderous 25-yard strike, but Northampton responded almost immediately. Two minutes later, Richard Hill collected the ball in midfield and raced through to score, restoring the Cobblers’ three-goal advantage. Hoskins grabbed Burnley’s second five minutes from time, scoring at the second attempt after Peter Gleasure had parried his initial effort. Northampton dominated the statistics, recording ten shots on target and winning 12 corners compared with Burnley’s one. Northampton Town: Gleasure, Reed, Chard, Donald, Wilcox, McPherson, McGoldrick, Gilbert, Benjamin, Morley, Hill. Substitute: Coy. Referee: T. Holbrook (Walsall).
Northampton Town 3-2 Hereford United
Saturday 25th October 1986 – Division Four County Ground – Attendance: 5,336
Just three days later, the Cobblers were back at the County Ground, producing another five-goal encounter against Hereford United. Northampton made a flying start, with Trevor Morley heading home a Dave Gilbert cross after just six minutes. Two minutes later, Ian Benjamin doubled the advantage after Eddie McGoldrick’s hard work created the opportunity.
The Cobblers made it 3-0 after only 21 minutes when Richard Hill reacted quickest to Phil Chard’s free-kick. However, Hereford fought back in the second half. Phillips reduced the deficit after 67 minutes, scoring after Wayne Cegielski headed a corner back across goal. Devine made it 3-2 with eight minutes remaining, finding space inside the Northampton penalty area before turning and scoring. The visitors thought they had snatched a late equaliser, but Phillips’ effort was ruled out for offside, allowing Northampton to hold on for another victory. Former Cobbler loanee Wayne Cegielski featured for Hereford, while Keith McPherson and Warren Donald were cautioned for Northampton. Northampton Town: Gleasure, Reed, Chard, Donald, Wilcox, McPherson, McGoldrick, Benjamin, Gilbert, Morley, Hill. Substitute: Coy. Referee: D. Ellary (Harrow).

COBBLERS PAST 100 SEASONS IN THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE 1996/97 – WEMBLEY GLORY IN THE CENTENARY SEASON
A
s we continue our look back through some of Northampton Town’s most memorable Football League seasons, we arrive at 1996/97, a campaign which saw the Cobblers celebrate their centenary season with promotion and a historic first visit to Wembley Stadium. The season certainly didn’t begin as planned. On the opening day at Wigan Athletic, the team coach was delayed in traffic before both Dean Peer and Danny O’Shea were sent off during the match. New signing Mark Cooper was then dismissed in a League Cup tie against Cardiff City, while Leyton Orient inflicted another early defeat at Sixfields. However, Northampton’s fortunes
gradually improved. Impressive home victories over Cardiff City (4-0) and Chester City (5-1) were followed by a remarkable four-minute hat-trick from Neil Grayson against Hartlepool United. The Cobblers finished the regular season in tremendous form, collecting 17 points from their final seven matches to secure a play-off place. Town eventually finished fourth in Division Three, recording 20 victories, 12 draws and 14 defeats from their 46 league matches. They scored 67 goals, conceded 44 and collected 72 points. In the play-off semi-finals, Northampton faced Cardiff City. A 1-0 victory at Ninian Park with a goal from Sean Parrish, despite Mark
Cooper being sent off, was followed by a thrilling 3-2 win at Sixfields, sending the Cobblers to Wembley. The final marked Northampton Town’s first-ever appearance at Wembley Stadium, and what better occasion than the club’s centenary season? The match itself proved a tense affair, but the unforgettable moment arrived when John Frain’s twice-taken free-kick found the back of the net, securing promotion and sending the Cobblers supporters into celebration. A season that began with frustration ended with one of the most iconic moments in Northampton Town’s history. Wembley, John Frain and promotion – the perfect way to celebrate 100 years of the Cobblers.

THE AWAY TEAM
COLCHESTER UNITED
A
WELCOME TO COLCHESTER UNITED
fter a mid-table finish in 2025/26, Colchester United are currently 19th in Sky Bet League 2 and they come into today’s game on the back of an excellent 1-1 draw away at Chesterfield in midweek, the U’s fifth draw in their last six league matches. In transfer news, free agent and former Cobbler Beryly Lubala signed for Colchester on 25 September. The 28-year-old Congolese forward was most recently with League One side Stevenage, but was released at the end of last season having made 35 appearances in all competitions since joining Alex Revell’s side from Wycombe in July 2025.
Lubala, who came through Birmingham City’s youth ranks, previously spent time on loan at the U’s from Blackpool in the 2022-23 season. Lubala also counts Crawley Town, Burton Albion and Northampton Town among his previous clubs and had scored 24 goals in 165 league appearances prior to re-joining the U’s last month. He made 19 appearances for the Cobblers on loan from Blackpool in 2022. There are two other ex-Cobblers players in the Colchester squad, Jay Williams and Ben Perry, who scored the U’s 82nd-minute equaliser at Chesterfield on Tuesday night. Perry spent the last three months of the

2024/25 season on loan at Sixfields from Nottingham Forest, making 17 appearances. After signing for Colchester on a permanent deal in summer 2025, Perry missed the majority of last season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury but returned to action last month in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy. Williams made 17 appearances for the Cobblers after coming up through the club’s academy. The defender left Sixfields in 2020 and has since played for clubs including Kettering Town, Harrogate, Banbury and MK Dons. He also had two spells at Crawley before leaving the club for a second time in early September to sign for Colchester.

THE PLAYERS THE MANAGER DANNY COWLEY
AGE: 48 APPOINTED: JANUARY 2024 PREVIOUSLY MANAGED: CONCORD RANGERS, BRAINTREE TOWN, LINCOLN CITY, HUDDERSFIELD TOWN, PORTSMOUTH Danny Cowley has established himself as one of the most recognisable managers in the lower leagues of English football. Cowley arrived at the U’s alongside his brother Nicky in January 2024, with Colchester facing a battle to preserve their League Two status. They successfully guided the side to safety. Their second full season brought significant progress. Colchester finished 10th in League Two during 2024/25, narrowly missing out on the play-offs by three points. That improvement led to the brothers signing new contracts in August 2025, extending their commitments to the club until June 2028. Cowley’s managerial career began in non-league football with Concord Rangers before a successful spell at Braintree Town earned him and Nicky the opportunity to take charge of Lincoln City. They subsequently managed Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth before returning to Essex with Colchester United. 24

Subject to availability, tickets will be available on arrival at the same prices, from the away white ticket booth located close to the away turnstiles off Livingstone Road. Pre purchased tickets can also be collected from this location. Please note the Wham Stadium is a cashless stadium. Away match booking forms have been processed and can be collected. Tickets are now on unlimited general sale from ntfcdirect.co.uk and in person. Advanced sales will end at noon on Friday October 30th. All sales are subject to availability at all times. ntfc.co.uk
