Hood worn by No 5. Tongue Strap worn by No 7.

Probable S.P.’s: EVENS Roxanne (GER), 2-1 Roadshow (IRE), 10-1 Ben Lomond (IRE), 16-1 Moves Like Mason (IRE), 66-1 Field of Aces (GB), 80-1 The Flaming Galah (GB), Cinq Douzaine (GB), 100-1 Daisy Me Rollin (IRE), 150-1 Rockbeare (IRE), Klervia (FR)

A likely match between ROXANNE and Roadshow. The latter shaped much better than first time up over hurdles at Chepstow recently, but equally, the former showed a good change of pace to come out on top on her hurdling debut at Ayr last month and, with better to come, she’s taken to defy a penalty.

DECLARED RUNNERS 6

Tongue Strap worn by No 6. Hood, Tongue Strap worn by No 1. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 5.

Probable S.P.’s: 11-10 Gwennie May Jem (FR), 9-4 El Rojo Grande (IRE), 15-2 Crac de Megaudais (FR), 16-1 Blue Ribbon (GB), 20-1 Poet’s Reflection (IRE), 80-1 Clashmore Banter (IRE)

GWENNIE MAY JEM and El Rojo Grande recently filled the first two places in a Warwick handicap and a repeat scenario could be on the cards here, with the former taken to confirm his superiority. Crac de Megaudais will need to improve if he’s to trouble the aforementioned duo on this chase debut but he’s most interesting of the others all the same

UNAUTHORISED BOOKMAKING

It is a condition of entry to this Racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business.

ANY INDIVIDUAL FOUND CONTRAVENING THESE CONDITIONS WILL BE EVICTED.

HORSE WELFARE AT NEWTON ABBOT

At all race meetings held at Newton Abbot Racecourse there are three specially qualified Veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. One vet will attend the start and follow the race in his/her vehicle and attend fallen, lame or pulled up horses Another vet will observe the finishing straight from the small stand beside the last fence in the final straight. They will immediately attend fallen or lame horses at this last fence or flight of hurdles.

If directed, they may be required to attend other incidents in the final straight. The third vet will be available to complete the treatment of urgent cases within the stable yard. This third vet will, if not otherwise occupied, observe the race from the bank at the outside of the track by the ‘in-line’ steward’s box and be available to attend horses finishing the race

In the event of two vets being occupied treating an emergency case, the SVS will follow horses. Whenever possible, one of the Veterinary Surgeons should be present in the Unsaddling Enclosure after each race

USE OF SCREENS

It is now standard practise for screens to be erected around any horses when receiving veterinary attention. This does not reflect the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse a calm environment in which to make a recovery.

Please do not therefore assume the worst if you see the screen erected around a fallen horse.
