DECLARED RUNNERS 7 2025: LIMERICK LEADER (FR) 8 11 2 James Bowen 11-10 (Alison Thorpe) 5 ran
Blinkers worn by No 3.
Tongue Strap worn by No 1, 4, 5.
Stewards Note:
SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL: Following its run on 9/5/2026 it was reported that the horse was found to have bled
Probable S.P.’s: 15-8 Limerick Leader (FR), 9-2 Walkin Out (GB), 5-1 Danny’s Friend (IRE), 17-2 Vengeance (GB), 9-1 Jack’s A Legend (GB), 12-1 School For Scandal (FR), 22-1 Demoiselle Kap (FR)
WALKIN OUT could be worth chancing switched to a professional yard off what is a potentially lenient mark. Last year’s winner Limerick Leader went close to making a winning start for this stable at Southwell on return so is the obvious threat.
HORSE WELFARE AT NEWTON ABBOT
At every race meeting held at Newton Abbot Racecourse there are three veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. All three veterinary surgeons have specific expertise in the treatment of thoroughbreds and racing injuries
One vet will attend the Start and then follow the race in his/her vehicle in order to attend, fallen, lame or pulled up horses. A second vet will watch the horses in the Parade Ring and as they leave for the Start. This vet will then also follow the race in his/her vehicle to attend to any further incidents of fallen, lame or pulled up horses. The third vet will be on duty to attend to any incidents in the Stable Yard, or to treat injuries from previous races that have returned to the Stables If the third vet is not required in the Stables during a race he/she will view the race from the steps to the “Old Press Box”, where they have a good view of the whole track, and are on hand as the horses pull up after the race
If all three vets are occupied treating horses, the BHA Veterinary Officer(s) on duty can be called upon to aid.
Whenever possible, at least one of the veterinary surgeons should be present in the Unsaddling Enclosure after each race
USE OF SCREENS
It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse when receiving veterinary attention. This does not reflect the severity of any injury but allows the vet some privacy and the horse a calm environment in which to make a recovery.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around an injured/fallen horse
