newtonabbotracing.com

A very warm welcome to you all from the team here at Newton Abbot Racecourse, your support is very much appreciated and valued and we hope you all have an enjoyable and successful afternoon’s racing with us. Our thanks go to our sponsors here today who are friends and family of John Bircham & Stephen Hayes, the friends and family of Ted Hull, the friends and family of Dick Oliver, the family of Brendon Soper, Zero to Exit and Sun Racing. We hope that everyone has a great day. As well as the competitive racing today, we have a Family Fun Day featuring the Rowcroft Mascot Race which is due off at 2pm and will take place over the final furlong of the racetrack. Today’s line up can be found later in this programme and it’s going to be a thrill a minute as the mascots charge up the home straight. Skullduggery amongst the mascots is encouraged! Our very own Blaze will line up again, 12 months on from the ignominy of finishing a tailed off last on home turf. Blaze has been in some type of training regime of late so we are hoping for a much quicker start this time around and a more prominent showing. We hope you enjoy the fun. We also have much more family entertainment too, as well as the mascots we have face painting on the Alfrescos decking, the playground, a magician, bubble fairy, all the inflatables, hook a duck and the human fruit machine from the Newton Abbot Rotary and the playpark. Check out the SouthWest Saints football area too. Plus, later in this programme you can win a free ice cream if you can answer the quiz correctly. All family entertainment is situated in our Course Enclosure (those of you with Paddock tickets can gain access to course just show your tickets and wear your wristband. Have a fantastic day! Today sees the end of the first half of our summer season. We have again managed to stage all racedays so far despite all the vagaries and challenges of the Devon weather! After this mid-summer break (so the jumps jockeys can get well-earned holidays in), we are back with the Saturday 22nd August fixture which is always great fun and features the legendary (in these parts) Sam and the Strings performing live after racing in the Paddock Suite. Then we quickly move on to our brand-new Abba Night fixture on Thursday evening 27th August when there’s loads of fun and prizes on offer as well as a great post racing performance by Abba tribute band Take A Chance On Us! Make sure you get your glad rags out! Don’t forget too that Newton Abbot Racecourse is open all year round for events, special occasions, conferencing and much more, check out our events calendar on the website or drop us a line or give us a call if you have a specific enquiry or want to hold your event here. Finally thank you again for all your support through thick and thin, it is hugely appreciated and valued, and we hope to see you again soon (please see our full fixture list later in this racecard). STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
