Newton Abbot Racecard - Friday 4th July

Page 1

A VERY WARM WELCOME TO YOU ALL FROM ALL THE TEAM HERE AT NEWTON ABBOT RACECOURSE. YOUR SUPPORT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED AND VALUED AND WE HOPE YOU ALL HAVE AN ENJOYABLE AND SUCCESSFUL DAY’S RACING WITH US AS WE GET THE WEEKEND STARTED!

Our thanks very much go to our sponsors here today - Weatherbys, South West Rail Solutions Limited and the friends and family of Helen Hambly – happy 50th Birthday Helen! We hope they and their guests have a great day’s racing with us.

For those of you wishing to extend the party straight after racing we have a local band The Filthy Gorgeous belting out a pile of dancefloor fillers up in our Paddock Bar (upstairs in main grandstand). It’s free to everyone to attend so do get yourselves along there! The bar will be staying open during the performance and you’ll be able to purchase pork baps from the carvery. They’re a great band, we hope you enjoy. Please note there is a limited capacity.

We still have an exciting season ahead of us here at Newton Abbot, with plenty happening on and off course. Please have a look at our Fixture List with its raceday themes elsewhere in this official programme. Next up is Monday 14th July, before we move on to the 20th July when we have our legendary Family Fun Day, which features the Rowcroft Hospice Mascot Race with a very strong and competitive field lining up (including our very own Blaze). Added to that is all the usual family fun before racing with a free gift for the first 200 kids, inflatables, face painting, Juggler, bubble fairy, hook a duck and the playpark. The Family Fun Series continues to the end of the season with dates on Thursday 21st August and Wednesday 29th October, the final one with a Halloween theme.

On Saturday 30th August we have Harbour performing after racing and there’s a free pint of Tribute if you arrive within the first hour of gates opening, whilst our next Friday afternoon fixture on 19th September Not the Cowboys will be extending your first day of the weekend!

We look forward to seeing you again soon, remember to book in advance online to get your Paddock tickets for £18 rather than the on the day £20.

Finally thank you to you all for supporting us through thick and thin, it is hugely valued and here’s to a memorable and successful season for all. Have a great day.

Best wishes

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

HORSE WELFARE AT NEWTON ABBOT

At all race meetings held at Newton Abbot Racecourse there are three specially qualified Veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. One vet will attend the start and follow the race in his/her vehicle and attend fallen, lame or pulled up horses. Another vet will observe the finishing straight from the small stand beside the last fence in the final straight. They will immediately attend fallen or lame horses at this last fence or flight of hurdles.

In the event of two vets being occupied treating an emergency case, the SVS will follow horses. Whenever possible, one of the Veterinary Surgeons should be present in the Unsaddling Enclosure after each race.

USE OF SCREENS

It is now standard practise for screens to be erected around any horses when receiving veterinary attention. This does not reflect the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy and the horse a calm environment in which to make a recovery.

Please do not therefore assume the worst if you see the screen erected around a fallen horse.

If directed, they may be required to attend other incidents in the final straight. The third vet will be available to complete the treatment of urgent cases within the stable yard. This third vet will, if not otherwise occupied, observe the race from the bank at the outside of the track by the ‘in-line’ steward’s box and be available to attend horses finishing the race. www.newtonabbotracing.com

WAR LORD: Following its run on 4/6/2025 it was reported that the horse had an irregular heartbeat.

Probable S.P.’s: 13-8 Seeyouinmydreams (GB), 3-1 Max of Stars (FR), 7-2 Get The Value (IRE), 9-1 Old Bridge (FR), 10-1 War Lord (GER)

GET THE VALUE was denied a hat-trick only by a rival completing one of his own over C&D last time, so he’s fancied to resume winning ways. Max of Stars and Seeyouinmydreams are obvious threats
